Chapter One
I panted on my way to history class. It was the first day of my freshman year of high school, and already I was lost. Figures.
"Great", I grumbled as the half bell rang. Just like me to get lost on the first day. I sped by all the laughing seniors. Damn upperclassman.
Thirty seconds later, I reached my destination. It felt like days. I looked at my new fellow classmates, and smiled. I wasn't the only one out of breath. I noticed a few people that were unfamiliar, but most of them I remembered from last year. No one in this crowd really stood out or anything.
As we settled in, I thought about that cute guy in homeroom. I dreamt of his dreamy blue eyes, and his chocolate brown hair. I think his name was Dan, or Sam or something along those lines.
I was so caught up in my day dream, that I didn't notice the guy next to me stand up and clear his throat.
It didn't catch my eye or anything. I just paid attention to him, because it would be kind of rude if I didn't. He was one of the newer people that I didn't recognize. He wore glasses, and had red hair. He was a little taller than me, although not by much. He kind of looked like Harry Potter and Ron Weasly morphed into one person. He basically wasn't my type at all.
"My name is Paul. I just moved here a couple of weeks ago from Colorado. My hobbies are history and hiking", he said in a deep british accent.
I rolled my eyes. The accent was annoying, and he sounded like a complete nerd to me. But somehow his voice was fascinating me in a weird way, kind of drawing me into him.
The bell rang and I automatically ran up to go to my next class. Knowing me, I was going to be late, because I got lost in this massive building. The images of that hot guy from homeroom was still on my mind, it was stuck in there like glue. The Saul guy, or whatever his name was, was the furthest thing from my mind.
I wasn't late to my next class, thanks God. As I panted my way in there my heart stopped. It was the Sam guy from homeroom. My heart started beating again, melting like an ice pop in the sun.
He sat next to me. "Hi, you're name is Maria, right?"
I bit my lip and nodded. "And you're names Sam right?"
He nodded. "Maria's a pretty name. That's probably because you're such a pretty girl." He smiled.
I blushed. "Uhhh, thanks". I was slowly starting to lose my sanity. This can't be good. But I didn't care. I think I was in love.
"So Maria", he began. I looked up. His eyes we drawing me in, like they were telling me to go out with him. And to tell you the truth, I didn't need telling. I'd go out with him, right here, right now, if he asked me right out.
"So, Maria", he repeated. He sounded nervous. "Do you have a boyfriend?"
I bit my lip to keep me from screaming. He totally is going to ask me out! Oh my God!
"Uhh, no", I said, trying to keep my cool, and not making it totally obvious that I liked him. Even though I do. "Why?"
"Well I was, uhh, thinking that we can go out", he said. "That's if that's ok with you.
I bit my lip. He liked me! And he sounded very nervous. Aww, that's so sweet. He looked at me.
"So, what do you say? Want to go out with me?" he asked. He was so nervous. And he was sweating. Not that I would tell. I was more interested in his eyes.
I smiled. "Of course I'd like to go out with you. You're so cute. And you seem nice. So why not?"
He smiled. "I don't have a reason why not. But I have never been this happy, as I am now. High schools going to be great".
"Yes it is", I said, taking his hand. We walked out of class together. I knew right then and there that he was the one.
