An Apology for the Devil

Why did you cry

When they did leave you

Why did you laugh

When they did stay

For what reason did you keep them here

And then push them away

What point was the nighttime

To lay in your arms

What good was the daytime

To stay in your gaze

Which part of your fragmented, broken lullaby

Was made for their embrace

For whom did you sing

Such far constellations

And why did you speak

So hapless a name

A planet silent reminiscing

Which was your claim to fame

Where did they take you

To lose such a dream

Where were you broken

They tied up your wings

But you've always been walking, haven't you

On these tender, mangled things
