Chapter 1

Morning broke through the once dark skies painting oranges and pinks all across its lonely depths. Clouds slowly moved away from the sun's warmth, floating eastward toward the unknown territory of the human race; All of whom, were destined to fall under their own mechanical devices.

The sun lit a lightly furnished room inside the center of a huge oak where a graceful figure lay sleeping upon a large leaf used as a comfortable bed matching the rooms color and decorum. As the sun basked her with its warmth and comfort, she slowly stirred and peeked open one of her emerald green eyes.

The elf smiled and stretched luxuriously on the bed, inviting the suns rays to console her troubled spirit and make her, for at least the time being, at peace.

Finally, she lifted herself from the comforts of her bed and made her way to the window, gazing up at the sky and listening to the small chirps of the birds singing their morning songs. The wind rushed through the open window and caressed the elven women's ivory skin and brushed her radiantly blonde hair back from her shoulders; when she noticed that her listening was in vain. Not a single lark, robin, nor blue jay sang their joyful songs. The only sound that penetrated the silence was the rustle of leaves and the quiet, taps of dripping water. The forest animals were completely silent…

The piercing shout of a war cry was heard just as the scraping sounds of swords being pulled from their sheaths and bows loosening their arrows toward their foes echoed in the distance.

Cursing in the elven tongue the woman hustled silently, grabbing her long sword and strapping it on her waist while nocking an arrow into her bow. She gazed down from her window, seeing her people running toward their enemies with great speed and agility, slashing and disposing of the intruders that had invaded their territory. She sighed while loosening an arrow into one of the monsters that was heading toward an unsuspecting elven male who was busy slaying a monster that stood in front of him.

In a melodic smooth voice that was beauty in itself she called out through the window," Watch your back Belorfilad! They'll kill you if I don't happen to be keeping my eyes on you!"

Laughing heartily, the elven male slit the throat of one of the oncoming beasts and called back," Thank you, love! May your loving eyes always save my life!"

Cursing at him while loosening another arrow at, what-seemed, to be one of the captains of the invaders, she thought, 'Why are we getting all these invasions? We never got this many intruders since the last war broke out But we had a spy in out midst's But who would be a traitor to us now?' As faces flashed in her mind's eye, a monster had slowly crept up to her rooms and made its way behind her, lifting up its broad sword and striking down…

An arrow flashed past her shoulder and jammed its way into the monsters chest, causing it to gag and sputter blood across the, once clean floor, leaving a bloody pool of black blood across the floor… Black?

"You owe me a kiss love!" Belorfilad called out, slightly more enthusiastic then what was considered appropriate.

"I saved you and you saved me, now we are at a fair exchange… I owe you nothing at all!" she shouted over the cries of the beasts being slaughtered by her people.

Giving her a gloomy expression Belorfilad kept fighting back monsters with his sword while buckling his bow back over his right shoulder.

Finally, all the monsters were killed and incinerated so that their filth would not harm the forests lush growth and healthy soil while the injured were put into the infirmary. Soon they would be coaxed back to health and their wounds would be properly bandaged to keep away further infection. After she had seen that all was taken care of, she called all her most trusting members of her council and held a meeting after the invasion. Looking at the group she had assembled she sat down and her men in unison, bowed and sat with her, all of them looking grim.

"This has been the sixth invasion this month… This is becoming too much of a routine… I wish I didn't have to comprehend what the outcome may be if this does not stop… So far no one has died, but there have been some lethal injuries…"

"May we get to the conclusion of this Milady? I must get back to my soldiers-" asked her general named, Rylad, who not only commanded, but was the leader of all her military forces.

"Do not interrupt me again General. You are here under my command and you dare interrupt me because of duties I assigned you?" she interrupted with a quick whip of her tongue.

The entire council instantly grew quiet at her outburst of authority and straightened themselves in their seats for the Queen. All cast their eyes down, avoiding her cold distant eyes.

"Did none of you notice the color of the blood that you spilt on this morn? No longer is it red, but black like that of the Raven… We are now fighting the dead!
