"So what do ya wanna do?" Ricky asked.

I glanced behind me at him. I was on my green laptop, sitting at my desk, trying to finish my latest paper for psychology class. It seemed like we got one every week, and I spent all my time typing and editing nowadays.

Ricky was lounging across my bed. His head and feet were dangling off opposite sides, like they always were. He swung his arms around so that they were dangling by his head and hardly off the ugly carpet of my dorm room. When he did, his lower stomach was exposed and I had to avert my eyes for a second. Whether it was because I thought it was unbearably sexy, or just to keep from giggling, I wasn't quite sure.

"What?" I could hear the smirk in his voice.

"Nothing, nothing at all."

I went back to my computer screen and could think about what to write next. I had to do a paper about psychological diseases. I had the first line, but that was it. Not to mention, I had less than four more days to finish it for a grade. And Ricky was making my choice between him and my goal of being a shrink, more and more difficult.

"Seriously, Parks, what should we do?" he sighed. "It's Friday night and I have seminar on Monday. I want to do something with you!"

I saved what little of my paper I had and shut down my computer. I swiveled around in my mega-awesome desk chair.

"What were you planning on?" I asked, smiling down on him with all of my glory.

Ricky paused and looked like he was thinking about sitting up. after a second, he still hadn't moved though.

"I hadn't really thought that far yet…I mean I didn't think you would actually agree so quickly…"

I laughed at him.

"Boy, you better learn that I would rather be with you than right my millionth paper for psych."

"Don't call me boy; I am twenty-one and I am a man!"

He crossed his arms angrily to his chest. It matched his serious tone of voice. However, his shaggy hair, band tee shirt, ripped jeans, and being upside-down took away major points.

I stood up, shaking my head at my choice of boyfriends.

"You know, I could have any guy on campus, and I choose the buffoon," I muttered to myself.

"I'm not a baboon!"

"I said buffoon!"

"Oh. That changes things."

I sat on the edge of my bed next to him. Grabbing onto the front of his tee shirt, I pulled him up. He wrapped his arms around me. Right after he kissed me, the door opened and my roommate, Toni, came in. she was a girl from Oklahoma with a serious twang in her voice. The mail was in her hand.

"Hey, ya'll," she greeted us, not bothered by the fact she was interrupting us. Again.

She tossed a couple of letters in my lap. Ricky saw the one that was a manila envelope and pulled away from me a little, tense.

"Hey! Sit back down! I'm not finished with you yet," I yelled. Toni snickered before leaving again. Ricky sighed and didn't move from where he was.

I opened the two normal envelopes first. One was from school, one from Troy, who joined the military right after high school. He would send me a letter every once and a while to keep me informed on what was going on. I didn't really care, but I could kind of pretend that I cared by writing back.

The third one, the one that was freaking out Ricky, was from my dentist. Something about a new program they were offering, but I didn't care about at all, so I tossed it into the trash can. Surprisingly, it made it in.

"What'd you do that for?!" Ricky yelled. He jumped up and pulled the envelope out again.

Before I could ask what the heck was up with him, Toni came back in.

"I accidentally took this from ya," she said, handing me an identical envelope.

I opened it again. It didn't have a return address. Inside, was a single piece of paper, and something else. I took out the paper, not reading it, and tipped the envelope up so whatever it was fell into my palm.

"It" was a ring. A typical engagement ring. Expensive. White gold. A decent sized diamond. I read the paper. It said: Will you marry me? -Ricky

I wasn't sure if I should have been feeling extremely loved and find it sweet, or whether I should smack him upside the head. I went with both.

"Ow!" Ricky said after my palm connected with his head.

"First, what took you so long?!" I asked.

"Uh…"

"Second, couldn't you be a man and just get down on one knee?"

"Well, I would have…"

"And third, maybe I'm engaged to a buffoon after all."

I smiled at him and slid the ring onto my third finger on my left hand.

"So, that's a 'yes', right…?" Ricky asked slowly.

I glanced around. Toni was gone again. I wrapped my arms around his neck and smiled again.

"No. I'm just wearing the ring, smiling, and hugging you because I got bored. Of course it's yes you baboon!"

"So I am a baboon!" he replied, just as sarcastically.
