When my life changed forever

Chapter 1:
"Come on! I know she can't resist me." Jamie Sullivan said to his friends.
"Oh, wake up Jamie. Lucy Edmunds avoids any conversation with us. You could always take a girl who wants to go with you." His friend Joe sighed.
Jamie laughed. His blue eyes sparkled in the bright lights of the café. Jamie was the most popular person in school. He had black hair that was always a different colour every week. Everyone wanted to be friends with Jamie Sullivan. His father was a head of a well known company and his mother was the best doctor in her hospital.
No one could understand why he wanted to be friends with Lucy Edmunds. Lucy wasn't the most popular girl in the school. She avoided all conversation with Jamie and his gang and stuck with her friends.
"Yo, Lucy, come here!" Jamie's friend Caleb called loudly as she went past their table.
Lucy stopped abruptly. Her long auburn hair was tied loosely. Her green eyes bore into Jamie's.
"Do you want me to take your order?" She asked with mock sweetness. Lucy knew better than to be rude to them.
"Nah, we want to ask you go to out with Jamie here…how about it?" Joe asked her, a mischievous gleam in his eyes warned Lucy of their intentions.
"No thank you. Now if you excuse me, I have a lot of work to do and you're wasting my time." It was same routine every week. They always asked her and she always said a polite but firm no.
"Ok, no date. How about you go to the commemoration ball with me and I leave you alone for the rest of the year. A promise." Jamie offered.
"If I go to the commemoration ball with you for a few hours you promise to leave me alone?" It was a tempting offer but Lucy knew there was a catch.
"I promise you." Jamie looked into her eyes while he said this.
"Fine, now can I go?" They always did this to her.
"Go ahead."
While Jamie had lived a carefree life Lucy hadn't. She had had a troubled past. Her father had died when she was two years old and her mother had had a nervous breakdown and couldn't look after Lucy. She had been bounced from relative to relative until her sister Hilary got married and became her legal guardian. Now Lucy worked in the café Jamie and his friends went to everyday. At school people usually avoided the quiet girl but Jamie Sullivan found himself wanting to know her better. Everyone but her tried to impress him by acting cool but she acted normal.
The commemoration ball was the following night. All classes above year 10 were allowed to go. Anyone younger than that weren't. Everyone wore their best dresses and went to have fun. Lucy had never bothered with the ball before finding it silly and useless.
Everyone thought she was shy and geeky because she wore glasses. But no one bothered trying to get to know the girl better. They all were in for a shock that night. No one ever saw Lucy in anything other than her school and job uniforms.
That night she wore a black wrap around dress with a red belt and white flower. Her sister had insisted that Lucy exchange her normal glasses for contact lenses. Her hair hung loosely over her shoulders, curled at the bottom.
When Jamie saw her he felt dazed. Quiet, shy Lucy had turned into a beautiful and confident girl.
"Wow, Lucy you look amazing." He whispered as they walked into the hall.
"Thank you. I'm only doing this because you promised me to leave me alone." She smiled at him as she said this. It was a smile few people ever saw.
The rest of the night passed in a blur. The time flew by after the first dance. Everyone laughed and enjoyed themselves.
Few people have things to regret. Mistakes they made in past. Sadly Jamie Sullivan did something that would haunt him for the rest of his life. Something that no one could change. And he not only destroyed his life but Lucy's too.
