AN: So like I said in the summary, this was an AP Lit assignment where I had to write a poem based on the emotions that isolation and separation bring, so it's pretty depressing. And I'm not gonna lie, I basically popped this out in like 15 minutes haha. But it didn't turn out as bad as I thought it would be, so I figured I might as well put it up on fictionpress and see what people have to say. But just so you know, I'm not a big fan of poetry, so I obviously am not very experienced with writing poetry. I would love to know how I could improve my poetry writing skills ('cause I'm going to be writing a lot more poetry over the next month for class haha) so comments and criticism would be appreciated. Thanks! =)

ALONE I STAND

Unfamiliar place, new situation,

How utterly out of place I feel.

Yearning for that sense of belonging,

Not wanting to go through this ordeal.

Nobody knows, and nobody cares,

There, alone, I stand.

Watching, waiting, for someone to approach,

But no one comes to lend a hand.

So I am left, dejected,

Wishing someone would notice me,

And break this barrier that separates

To see who I can be.
