CHAPTER FIVE

There was no need to avoid each other when they could just ignore each other. No acknowledgement of the other. Suzanna said that she was fine. There was nothing wrong between them, but she was often caught by her best friend looking at Griffin.

Griffin chose to ignore her existence. Whenever he looked around, his gaze would slide right over her as if she was nothing at all. He made it look as if she was nothing and always had been. He was secretly wishing that she would say something to him. If she said the words, 'I dare you' to him he would accept no matter what it was.

"Will you just say something to him?" Alyssa sighed.

She was annoyed with the two not talking to each other. Usually there was the bad-mouthing of each other and witty comments when they past each other in hall. Now there was nothing. It was odd for everyone in the school. There was always some shouting from players in the hallways; Zanna and Griffin were the loudest. There was unusual lower level of sound in the hallways thanks to Suzanna's words.

Zanna didn't even acknowledge Aly's question. It was about Griffin, and Griffin was not supposed to exist. Aly poked her best friend in the shoulder.

"What?" Zanna groaned.

Aly gave her a cold look. "If you're not going to do it yourself, then I'm going to do it for you. I dare you to dare Griffin to be your boyfriend." Zanna wrinkled her forehead.

"What?" She cried confused.

"Dare Grif to be your boyfriend. That's what I'm daring you to do." Aly explained.

Her best friend's eyes widened. "Are you kidding me? He acts like I don't even exist anymore! And I'm supposed to have him as a boyfriend. I don't think so."

Aly raised her eyebrows. "Really? Are you sure you want to throw back 25 Sweet n' Low packets? I've got them in my backpack." She started to unzip her backpack.

Zanna quickly changed her mind. The last time she tried Sweet n' Low she puked. "No, no I'll do it."

She took a deep breath and headed over to his table. She tapped him on the shoulder. He turned to see who it was.

"I dare you to be my boyfriend."

"Accepted!" He shouted not registering what the Dare was.

"I'll see you later then." She said coolly before walking back to her table.

He turned back to his group of friends who were staring at him in shock. "What did I agree to?" He asked excitedly.

"You're her boyfriend." One of them replied.

"I what?" He spluttered.

"You're her boyfriend." The boy told him again with slight irritation.

This time Griffin was overjoyed. Suzanna wasn't just talking to him, she was his girlfriend. It was almost too good to be true.

He scrambled over to her table. He grabbed her by the waist, spun her around to face him, and proclaimed, "You don't know how happy I am. I've been waiting for this for three weeks." He cupped her face and planted kiss after kiss on her mouth.

There were shouts of joy and good natured cat calls.

They were once again pried apart. Griffin's friends lead him one way and Alyssa lead Zanna another.

"You can maul each other after school somewhere else." Alyssa muttered.

Zanna didn't listen to a word that her best friend was saying. She was too busy staring at her new boyfriend.

This time they were looking back. This time she knew they would see each other again and she definitely knew his name.
