I live in a town. At least, I think I did. It was called Pleasant Flower, with a population of around a hundred and fifty people. All that feels like a dream now. It's hard to tell. All I know is that an entire year has passed already, and I'm starting to think I invented the town of Pleasant Flower and the people there. I start to think that this is the reality while they were all just a dream.

When our town disappeared from the map, leaving only cracked dirt behind, we went crazy with fear. My name is Salinda Mar. I'm sixteen and still alive in a wreck of a town we all once proudly referred to as Pleasant Flower. I live with the remaining population of ten people. The rest were devoured by creatures that bear a strange resemblance to our definition of what we know as dinosaurs. The ten of us live together in a single house. I share a room with my older sister Veronica and all we can ever think to say is, "I can't believe we're still alive."

My name is Salinda Mar and I am here to tell you our story.

Chapter 1

I'm sitting on the floor right now, talking with Veronica. We're both eating from the same can of cold chicken noodle soup. There's no electric in the house but we did have a decent fireplace in the living room that we used to stay warm or heat up food. We didn't heat up the soup this time because Veronica likes it cold, thick, and salty but we did sit in front of the fireplace and were enjoying the meal very much. It was little things like eating or talking to a friend that really made it bearable to live in our mysterious hell and reminded us that we truly were still alive.

John Phily, a tall 38 year old man who was an all around amazing'fix it' guy in another life pounded the last of the nails over a wooden board that covered the window. As he pounded, a terrible groan, loud enough to shatter glass, sounded in the distance. John stopped for a moment, letting out a deep breath and closing his eyes. A minute passed before he silently went back to work.

Sam Hillow, another survivor, twenty years old and quite handsome with blue eyes and brown hair, came into the living room, a can of green beans in his hands. He threw it at John, hitting John in the arm that held the hammer. "I'm sick of green beans!" he yelled. "I always get green beans! What is your obsession with giving me the green beans every other day!? John, I'm starving here!"

"Go get something else then."

"And," Sam continued, angrily "we're down to one week's worth of food and that's only if we plan on stretching it even more than we have been"

"There's still a few houses we haven't checked," John reminded him.

"And who do you think is going out there? Not me. Not Veronica. Not Salinda. You gotta think man. We need some kind of long term plan here."

"We could shoot ourselves," Salinda offered. She pointed to a large poster hanging from the wall covered in house rules written in red marker. Some of the rules included "no stealing food", "never leave the house unless it's an emergency/bathroom break," "Don't be a slob. Bury it when youre done going potty!" and at the bottom of the paper, in even larger red letters, a warning that stated "We may have to shoot ourselves. Be prepared. THIS IS EXTREMELY POSSIBLE."

"Now that is pretty much inevitable so let's keep it as a very very last resort. Good idea though," he joked, his lips curling into a smile, the first one she'd seen on him all night. I smiled back, my cheeks flushing. Somehow, even in such desperate times, I had managed to fall in love with Sam.

The ten of them had been together from the beginning. They weren't sure why they had been spared, but somehow, none of them had died while the rest of the town had perished almost immediately.

Sam came up me. He took my hand, still smiling. "Wanna be a little daring?" he asked.

I felt my cheeks blushing deeper. "Sure. What is it.?" As he looked at me, my unbrushed hair and clothes I hadn't bothered to change out of for a week, I was suddenly extremely self-conscious. I ran a hand through the blond tangles. I left the half eaten can of soup to Veronica.

"You better hurry up," she explained through mouthfuls. "I'm not saving you any."

"Meanie!" I complained.

"Then hurry up!"

I followed Sam to the stairs and we went to the bedroom he shared with his roommate, Gregory. He brought me to the window, also boarded up, and pointed to the tiniest peephole where you could see outside.

"Go ahead and look outside."

I nodded leaning toward the peephole and looking through the small opening. To my surprise, I saw a giant Tyrannosaurus Rex pacing back and forth around their homemade wall that they surrounded their house with. There was about fifty feet between her and the creature. Beside it were three Raptors, also so pacing around the fence.

"What do you think they want?" Sam whispered, joining me at the peephole, our heads touching."

"I'm starting to think that fence we built is magic," I said, pulling away from the hole. "It wouldn't take much to break it down. Why don't they?"

"I was wondering that myself."

Out of curiosity, I bent down and looked through the hole once more. The rapters were green and white, with agile frames and deep set eyes. They jumped a few times in the air, a seemingly pointless action, before heading off and disappearing from sight. Only the creature that resembled a T-Rex stayed, its large jaw opening and closing, and its nostrils flaring.
