Chapter 1: "Screwed"

Metal Freak: Aww, come on Rebbie, just one song...please?

I sighed and rolled my eyes, before typing a reply back to my friend.

Rebbie: No

Metal Freak: Why?

Rebbie: Cuz…I'm…

I paused, trying to find an excuse.

Rebbie: Cuz it's embarrassing!

Metal Freak: What's there to be embarrassed about between friends?

Rebbie: I don't know…I'm just…shy

Metal Freak: :(

Rebbie: Oh…alright…I'll give you a call.

Metal Freak: I'm waiting. :D

I bit my lower lip in nervousness as I held my cell phone in one hand. I chided myself for being so nervous. Why the heck was my heart beating so furiously? I'll just be calling him and sing a song since he wants to hear it so badly. No big deal.

Although, this will be the first time I'll be hearing his voice. Should I be doing this? I've only known him for eight months or something and only through IMs.

I shook my head. Why not? He'd become a close friend of mine in a few months, and I trusted him. What's the worst he can do anyway? It's just a phone call. Plus, he knew my phone number a long time ago. If he was harmful, he would've done something by now, right?

So, finally, I dialled his number. He picked it up instantly.

"Hello, Rebecca," he answered.

My mouth dropped open hearing his voice. It was smooth and deep. I gulped.

"Hi Jake," I greeted back, noticing how my hands were becoming cold and clammy.

"So…go on…sing!" he said. I smiled, hearing the excitement in his voice.

"I don't think I can do this," I mumbled, feeling butterflies in my stomach. God, I'd never done this before.

He groaned. "Aww, why are you so shy? There's nothing to be shy about!"

"You just don't pick up the phone and start singing you know!" I retorted.

I could imagine him rolling his eyes. "Why not? You think my other friends don't do that?" he said.

"Well, I -"

"Okay, I'll play and you start singing."

I heard some shuffling, and then a familiar tune started playing. I was amazed by how well he played.

"You're playing that?" I asked.

"Duh. Now sing…"

He kept on playing, but I just couldn't bring myself to sing. I was sitting stiffly on my bed, biting my lower lip.

Then, he started singing.

"Today, is gonna be the day that they're gonna throw it back to you…"

His voice encouraged me and I started singing.

"By now you should've somehow
Realized what you gotta do
I don't believe that anybody
Feels the way I do about you now…"

At this point, I heard him slow his guitar playing, and breathe one word: "Wow."

"And all the roads we have to walk along are winding,
And all the lights that lead us there are blinding…
There are many things that I would
Like to say to you
I don't know how…"

He stopped playing and I was tempted to stop singing, but somehow, his silence only encouraged me. I was grinning like an idiot when I had heard him say 'wow'.

"Because maybe
You're gonna be the one saves me?
And after all
You're my wonderwall…"

I stopped singing and blurted out fast, "Okay, that's all I've memorised -"

"Holy shit, Rebs," he breathed. "That was…frigging good. You have an amazing voice."

"Really? Nah, you're just saying that," I replied, feeling my cheeks heat up.

"No way. I promise. That was…wow, wow, wow," he blabbered.

"Thanks," I said, feeling pleased with myself for impressing him.

"You know, I wish you could sing lead with us. We'd be a hit…"

The conversation continued. He made me feel comfortable and soon, the time passed easily with chatting. I was amazed by how easily I could open up to him. In fact, ever since we first started talking, he made me be more carefree with people instead of being reserved and quiet.

"Hey, Rebecca," he started apologetically. I liked how he said my name. It sounded…nice… "…hey, gotta go, dad's calling. Talk to ya later."

"Yeah, bye," I replied and hung up.

I realised I was still grinning like an idiot minutes later. My heart was still fluttering madly and I kept replaying our conversation in my head.

I groaned and took my head in my hands.

Me, Rebecca Smith, sixteen year old teenager was falling for Jake Adams, twenty year old university student.

I'm so screwed.

A/N: First try at a story with it's main genre being romance. Hope I don't spoil it.

The song is Wonderwall – Oasis. I don't own it…it's a REAL band.
