Annabel:
The shock of Cole's kiss was still plastered on my face as I turned to face James. For someone usually composed James looked as if he was ready to murder Cole.
Did I interrupt something?" He asked accusingly. I bit down a retort and wheeled away from Cole's proximity so that I could breathe while I talked to James.
"Why are you here?" I raised a brow "Did what I said at dinner not get through to you?" I ignored Cole's obvious disappointment with my retreat and continued to focus on the maggot that was crowding my bedroom door. I could deal with Cole later, I had a pest problem at the moment.
James's gaze flickered between Cole and I.
"I was just checking on you but I see Remington beat me to it." I rolled my eyes.
"Great Jealousy, couldn't you have done that when we were actually dating?" Cole gave James a look of amusement. "Stop the grin Cole, I have yet to deal with you." It was James's turn to grin at Cole's shocked face.
"Annabel we need to talk." I held my hand up to silence him.
"I've done enough talking with you…Now I'm tired. You ruined my movie." I turned then to Cole. "We'll finish it tomorrow." His eyes told me that the movie wasn't all that we'd be finishing. I closed my eyes briefly. "Now leave please, both of you. I need rest. My legs were throbbing and I wasn't sure why because I hadn't been on my feet all day.
Concern showed in Cole's eyes as he watched me carefully.
"Bells are you alright?" I smiled at him sadly.
"yeah, I'll be okay." Sighing I waved them off. "Now get, both of you."
Cole:
The next morning I was laying in my bed staring up at my ceiling thinking about Annabel. I wish she had let me stay with her last night, she didn't look too well and I was really worried. On the other hand it was probably a good thing that she had made me leave, given the way my body had responded to her. I cant imagine what would have conspired…well I could but it wouldn't do any good to go there. Not yet.
Smiling to myself I thought about the way she tasted. Like berries and cream. Why had it taken me so long to realize how much I liked her. From the moment I kissed her I realized that I had liked her for years now.
Frowning I wondered how she felt. Did she think it was a mistake? No the look in her eyes when I'd left last night had been filled with care. I growled wishing that I could get my hands on James for interrupting us. What did she ever see in him anyways?
My phone rang then.
Flipping it open I answered without looking to see who it was.
"Hello?"
"Cole? Hun, thank god you answered. I've been trying to get a hold of you forever." Heather said quickly.
"Why?"
"What do you mean why, school is in three days and you promised that you would take me shopping for new clothes." As if she needed new clothes.
"Hay, we broke up. I think that denounces any promises I made to you."
"Pish-posh, You were only stressed that day. I know the real you. You think I would blame you for a little tiff now and again?" Sighing heavily I wished for once Heather would think like a normal person.
"No, Hay, I meant it. I…found someone." There was silence on the other end.
"Who is she?" I started to answer and then thought better of it. One, because Annabel and I weren't actually together yet, and because I knew Heather. She would make Annabel's life a living hell, and we already had James on our plate.
"Listen Hay, I'll go shopping with you because I promised but after that we're just friends, got it?" I could practically hear the wheels turning in that golden head of hers.
"Fine." Was all she said before hanging up. Turning my phone off I got up from my bed and headed out of my room. I needed to see Annabel.
Annabel:
I stared at the soccer ball intently. I knew I looked stupid from afar but I couldn't help it. I missed being able to kick that stupid thing around. A tear fell silently down my cheek.
Gah! What was the matter with me? Did I have to get so emotional over it? I looked up at the sky, there were no clouds today. A nice day to play.
I knew he was behind me before I even heard him, I sensed him like a animal would sense its kin. Instead of being surprised because I knew he would come, I turned my head and gave him a sad smile.
"I know what you're thinking, and I know it's sad. I just can't help it." I nodded pointedly at the ball. He looked at the ball, at me, and then bent down to pick it up.
"Let's play for a little while." I looked up unable to hide the hope in my eyes, even though I knew I couldn't play. Not when his parents had a perfect view of the field and could see that I was out of my chair.
"You're parents will see me." He held a finger to his lips.
"They're still out meeting with the Ulsan's' comparing wines. We're good for another thirty minutes." He held out his hand to me. "Come on, or are you too scared?" He wagged his eyebrows like he used to do to taunt me when we were little.
"okay." I said filling a thrill out of it. "I'm ready." I stood up from my chair still feeling the soreness from last night but ignoring it. Cole grinned that irresistible grin.
"Get ready to lose little girl."
I laughed hard.
