I'm not really sure what I'm writing about anymore. There seems to have to be some sort of purpose to any story. Why can't it just be about life? I tried that once, but I had to dramatise it, make it more funny than it would be. Then I realised that that's what happens in every story. Soap operas like Eastenders and Coronation Street do that. It was meant to just be about life in London, the people in London and how they get on.

But, sadly, that isn't interesting. So they make it more dramatic, they make someone who used to be ordinary a killer, a rapist, a paedophile. Someone suddenly has a long lost twin return home to create scandal, or they witness an accident and become schizophrenic. Life no longer entertains us.

Alfred Hitchcock once said, 'films are life with the dull bits cut out.' But why are the dull bits cut out? Surely the dull bits are what make our lives bearable! They're the bits that make the good and bad bits stand out. They remind us that we are who we are and there's nothing we can do to change that.

This must be true, why else would Sims be so popular? We create people, replicas of ourselves in some way or virtual forms of who we want to be. There is nothing out of the ordinary. They get married, have kids, get jobs and work hard to get a promotion. We learn skills such as cooking, charisma and gardening. This is no dream life and yet it is such a successful game that there have been three versions of it, each with game extensions to let us create pets, have fancy clothes, go on holiday.

Most stories attempt to mirror life. But like on TV or in films only the best bits are shown to readers. The most successful stories have an interesting twist, such as life in Afghanistan or medical emancipation or scandals. The most successful stories are usually about people in otherworldly situations. Harry Potter, for example, or Eragon, or even the Twilight Saga.

Did you know that an artist once filmed the Empire State building? Not at a special angle so that crowds below could be seen, but he used a very simple camera aimed at the top of the building and filmed for approximately 12 hours. You can find it on YouTube under the name Empire. He also filmed a couple sleeping for 8 hours. He said he didn't have any motives; it was just to appreciate the finer things in life.

I wish that I would take my own advice and write about actual life. But I know I won't. Instead, I'll write about kidnap, the afterlife and vampirism. But one day I will, even when no one will listen. Like if I post this now, it will just be the ramblings of my mind. You'll get bored and quit. I would too. At least I tried, got something out there. It'll get lost though, unless it's miraculously found by some technologically improved version of Lara Croft who uncovers it and shows it to the world.

Now, wouldn't that be an interesting story?
