Just Haven't Met You Yet

There she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen, sitting no more than a few meters away, laughing contently over a steaming cup of coffee. Her brunette hair shaking as her whole body radiated with happiness and joyful, well joy. I stared at her like a dumbfounded man hoping no one would notice the blush rushing to my cheeks.

"Jeremy. Jeremy are you listening to me?!" my girlfriend of 3 weeks snapped at me, clicking her manicured nails in front of my glazed over expression.

"I'm sorry what?"

"I said we should go away for a holiday." She batted her eyelashes at me.

"Isn't it a bit too early for us to be taking a holiday?"

"I've known you all my life! What do you mean it's too early?"

Let me give you a rundown on how my life is right now. I'm 25, living in an apartment with my dog, corrupted by the devil and running on $1000 dollars a week. Some life huh? You're probably wondering who this girl in front of me is, and why she's snapping her fingers at me like I'm stupid. No. I'm not stupid; I was simply forced into this... relationship.

She was everything I ever wanted in college- the prettiest girl there by far. Everyone wanted her, hell I wanted her. For four years straight I would sit and daydream about her being by my side, being my girlfriend. Then something that I deemed to be miraculous happened. She looked at me. Some miracle huh? If only I had known then that my life would be a living hell with her I would've said no.

It's been three weeks and I'm already fed up. I'm sick of her whinging and moaning about how I have nothing to give to her, about how her other boyfriends used to take her on world trips every summer.

"I'm just not ready." I shrugged.

"That is it! I'm done with you. You're..."

"Poor?" I suggested.

"And you're-"

"Simple?"

"And you're-"

"Sick of you whinging all the time? Yes. Did you have anything else to say, Shelley dear?"

"Ugh. I knew I never should have dated you. You're no good at anything! We are through Jeremy Parker!" she hissed at me as she ran stormed out of the diner with her heels echoing off the cafe walls.

She was gone; actually gone. I sighed and ran my hands over my face. I looked up to find the woman gone. I felt embarrassed and claustrophobic. I just needed to get out of that cafe and never ever return.

I stepped out of the chair I had sat on, noisily scraping it along the floor. Leaving a $10 bill on the table I left with my jacket over my shoulder. No big deal.

Later that night my friends Daniel, Cathy and Ian joined me in a game over poker with a few good bottles of beer. After telling them the story of Shelley Daniel looked at me and laughed.

"So you bagged yourself out while bagging her out too?"

"Now that you mention it, I think I did."

"You're so stupid! I mean come on, you should have chased after her! After hearing you complain about her being treated so badly in previous relationships, why didn't you run after her?"

"Because she broke up with me. She called me what was it- oh yeah poor and simple."

"That's because you suggested those for her!" Daniel cried taking another swig of beer.

"Whatever. She's not important anyway." Cathy smirked.

"Thanks Cay, at least someone agrees with me." Ian chuckled finishing his 3rd beer for the night.

"I dunno what to feel right now. I don't think I'm angry. Nor am I sad. I feel kinda happy." I sighed gulping down the rest of my beer.

"Well good on you. She's a stupid bitch anyway." Cathy nodded punching my shoulder.

We fell silent for a good 20 seconds before there was a small knock on the door. I looked over to Daniel who pointed for me to go get it. Then I looked to Cay who shrugged. Then lastly at Ian who sighed and called out "who is it?"

"It's- its Delilah."

"Who's Delilah?" Ian grumbled

"I'll get it." Cay sighed getting up off of the couch. She wrenched open the door to reveal who was on the other side.

"Is um, Is Jeremy here? Jeremy Parker?"

Delilah. The one I saw at the cafe laughing over a cup of steaming coffee with her brunette hair so luscious and lips so-.

"Jeremy get up." Ian grunted pulling me from my partly drunken daydream.

"Huh?"

"The girl wants you."

"Who?"

"I dunno? Just get up."

I rolled off the couch and made my way to my front door.

"Uh hi?" I frowned casting a look at the small brunette by the name of Delilah. Oh how I loved how her name rolled off of my tongue. Delilah.

"I didn't mean to intrude, but you dropped your cell after you left this afternoon." She held out my silver phone in her slim palm.

"That's my phone?" I frowned.

"You idiot Jeremy! That's your phone. Just take it!" Cay yelled from what sounded like my kitchen.

"Cay is my phone silver?" I yelled

"It is!" Ian, Daniel and Cay yelled in unison.

"Well thanks. I better get going. Good night Delilah," I smiled pocketing my cell.

"I'll- uh see you round I guess?" she smiled turning away slowly down the hall.

"Yeah. See you round." I said closing my door. I turned and pulled my cell from my pocket. 6 unread messages .I guess she got sick of listening to my message tone and decided to give it back. How thoughtful. Hang on... How did she know where I lived? How did she know it was mine? Oh yeah, there was a picture of me and Shelley on the front.

Great.
