Just Haven't Met You Yet:
Chapter 3:

"Jeremy sweetie, I really wish you'd call. Your father wants to see you as soon as possible," my mother's shrill voice echoed from my answering machine. "I guess I'll wait for you to call back, alright? We love you Jeremy."
I woke to the sound of my alarm on the Saturday thinking it'd be just another day. Little did I know that this would be the day that changed my life forever.
I slid out of bed and shook out my doona. Pulling the curtains open I yawned watching as the day slowly began for everyone else. I lifted Buster off my bed and put him on the floor. Shuffling into the kitchen, with Buster growling and nipping at the hem of my sweats, I drowsily turned on the coffee machine.
While I waited for my coffee to brew, I looked around my apartment. Buster's toys strewn in the corner, piles of books scattered around every single flat surface, and an assortment of cutlery, dishes and bottles placed in some sort of haphazard fashion. I really needed to clean this place up; but first things first – Coffee.
After my morning coffee I pulled on a T-shirt and changed out of my sweats. Slowly shuffling back around my apartment, now more awake, I stacked up random dishes and bowls into my dishwasher. An hour had finally passed and my apartment was spotlessly clean. Okay so maybe spotless was a bit of a stretch, but it was cleaner than it was before.
I sat down on my couch and lifted my feet up onto my coffee table and began to wonder what I would do today. I picked up my cell and searched through my contacts til I found the right person I wanted to talk to. Delilah.
My thumb hovered over the call button as I contemplated calling the petite brunette. I wasn't sure what was wrong with me today but it certainly gave an excuse for reasoning. I reluctantly pressed the call button and put the receiver to my ear.
"Hello?" a small groggy voice answered the phone after a few shrill dial tones.
"Uh hi- is this Delilah?" I asked immediately sitting up.
"Yeah, this is me. What do you want?"
"I was just curious; you seem to have stored your number in my cell."
"Who is this?"
"Jeremy Parker, you dropped off my phone like, three nights ago."
"Um," she paused "Oh right, hey!"
"Took you a while?" I laughed.
"Yeah sorry, I was wondering who you were when you called."
"Oh it's no problem. I just wanted to say thanks for, um, dropping my phone by. I didn't actually realise I had left it behind."
"Yeah, it was no problem at all. Hey listen, can I call you back? I'm actually a bit busy right now."
"Oh yeah sure, we should- uh- catch up soon." I suggested.
"Yeah definitely. Well, um, it was nice talking to you Jeremy."
"You too, Delilah. Bye."
"Bye." She said as I pressed the end call.
My heart was racing, I couldn't sit still. I was actually giddy. All this for a girl? Wow. Jeremy Parker, what have you gotten yourself into?
I picked up my cell and called Cay.
"What Parker?"
"I called her. I talked to her and she- well she snapped at me but who cares?!" I laughed as I paced my kitchen and lounge room in ten strides.
"Whoa! Slow down. Who's this?"
"Delilah!"
"Oh cell phone girl?"
"Yeah her."
"She snapped at you? That isn't a good thing Parker."
"She didn't, you know, snap snap at me. She just didn't know who I was until I reminded her. After all she was the one who put her number in my cell in the first place."
"Okay, calm your farm Parker." Cay laughed.
I laughed and sat back down on my sofa. "Okay my farm is calm."
"Jesus, you sound like a lovesick schoolgirl."
"Well maybe I am a- Hey!" I grumbled.
"Oh yes, Cay; one. Jeremy; zero!"
I groaned and replied "Okay, fine you win this time, but next time I'll definitely kick your ass!"
"Who says there will be a next time?" Cay laughed.
"I said there's a next time!"
"Sure thing Parker," Cay snorted "You're just upset that you lost to me. A girl."
"You're not a girl Cay! You've always been one of the guys and you know it."
"So? You're just upset that I beat you, that's all."
I contemplated on what she said. Was I upset that she beat me? Of course not. It was merely our daily routine arguments. I sighed and gave up trying to convince Cay that I wasn't upset that she had outsmarted me.
Cay began rambling on about something or rather as my door began being brutally murdered by a fist. I sighed and yelled "just a minute."
I got up off the couch and walked to the door. Wrenching open the door it figured that I had locked the deadbolt too. I sighed, much to my disappointment, that I'd have to call Cay some other time. She grumbled at me through the phone as I reluctantly hung up on her.
I opened the door to find a tall, broad shouldered, dark skinned man grinning at me like a mad hatter. "Can I help you?" I asked trying to hide the fear emitting from my voice.
"Parker, right?"
"Yeah."I nodded shuffling closer to the door frame. He grunted as he set a hefty punch square on my nose.
I fell back onto my hard wood floor feeling the blood seeping from my left nostril onto my t shirt. I was absolutely speechless. My nose hurt like hell and who was the guy?
I groaned from the floor slightly twitching from the punch. "Have a nice life, twerp." He grunted as he spat on my face and left me all alone.
I sighed as I heard his retreating footsteps echo off the corridor walls. My phone began to ring but I let it go. I was in too much pain to actually care. My all too familiar answering machine message went through and I waited for someone to actually leave a message.
"Jeremy sweetie, I really wish you'd call. Your father wants to see you as soon as possible," my mother's shrill voice echoed from my answering machine as I lay sprawled out on the floor, half twitching. "I guess I'll wait for you to call back, alright? We love you Jeremy."
I never did call her back.
