Empty Hearts
Chapter Three
By: itsVKEE
It was finally the weekend and there was nothing I wanted more than to be able to sleep in a little longer. Sadly that didn't happen. I was woken by Drew, as per usual, telling me to get up and get dressed. I kicked around my bed hoping that I would injure him, but he simply laughed at me.
'Drew, I swear to god, if you don't get off of me this instant I will castrate you in your sleep."
"Sheesh woman, chill."
"Now let me sleep." I groaned.
"Come on Nance! You gotta get up."
I grumbled and buried myself deeper into my blanket.
"Nancy, I mean it. We're late for school."
School? School?!
"Drew. It's the weekend." I laughed.
"No it isn't. It's May 10th. A Monday." He groaned.
Oh god. I flew out of my covers and somehow managed to kick Drew in the process. I would have laughed if I hadn't been rushing around so much. I pulled on the closest thing I could find. A pair of skinny jeans, a band tee and what looked like Drew's jumper. I pulling my hair into a loose ponytail and stuffed my phone and keys into my back pocket and pulled on my shoulder bag.
I looked at the clock on my way out. It read 8:20am. We had around 10 minutes to get to school. Record timing if I do say so myself.
Aberdale High School was one of the best schools in our district. Every other school had poor funding and dilapidated buildings, but what school didn't? To say that this school was the absolute best would be a total lie. It wasn't the best, but it wasn't the worst. So I'll just leave it at that.
"I told you to get up, but you wouldn't listen! So stop complaining that you're hungry." Drew laughed.
"But I'm-mmmfph," I cried walking towards the front of our school.
"That's enough talking." Drew chuckled covering my mouth.
"Give me some food then I'll shut up. I promise!"
"I'll buy you a coffee and you can drink it in English alright?"
"Thanks Drew!" I laughed hugging him.
"Ugh, get a room. Or better still get laid!" a masculine voice chuckled from behind us. We turned around to find Dixon standing behind us with three coffees in his hands.
"Are they for me?" I grinned taking a cup of coffee, strangely with my initials on it.
"Coincidentally they are." Dixon smiled taking a coffee of his own and handing the last to Drew.
"Thanks man." He smiled.
"Dixon I love you so much right now. Drew woke me up and I was rushing and-"
"And you're still talking too much." Drew cried slinging an arm around my shoulder.
"You suck." I grumbled into my foam cup, walking beside Dixon and Drew.
Dixon smirked as we walked into school to find my locker, luckily managing to get my books along the way.
Walking into English, Dixon entered the room first creating a very perhaps, 'grand' entrance what sounded like "Dixon's here!"
"Sit down Mr Dixon." Mrs Marsh laughed as Drew and I followed in.
"I just got in!"
"Michael, just sit down," Mrs Marsh sighed looking at him. Then she turned at looked at us "If it isn't the coffee club."
"Hey miss!" I smiled.
"Good morning Nancy," Mrs Marsh laughed "So now that this lot have joined us we can begin the lesson."
I took a seat next to Drew, behind Dixon and quietly drank my coffee. Mrs Marsh turned her back to us and began to write something on the board. Drew looked at me and chuckled. I frowned and punched him. He looked at me and gaped in mocking pain.
I rolled my eyes and took out my book and pencil case. As Drew and I sat silently writing down notes Dixon turned around and flicked a ball of paper at my face.
I glared at him and nudged his chair. He mouthed the words 'open it,' I sighed and quickly unrolled the ball of paper.
When are you and D gonna get togetherrr? ;)
I sighed and scrunched up the paper and threw it back at Dixon's head. Drew chuckled beside me and leant forward to slap Dixon's back.
"Oh, Jesus Christ! Drew why do you always slap me?!" Dixon growled, holding the back of his head.
"That's because you never pay attention Mr Dixon," Mrs Marsh said as she paced in front of Dixon's desk.
He shrunk back into his seat and concentrated on his work. Drew and I chuckled behind our books. I stared at Dixon's little note, buried inside my hot little hand and pondered. Honestly, did I ever want to be with Drew?
My Verdict? Yes and no. Yes, I wanted to have Drew in my life because he meant so much to me, but no, I never saw Drew that way.
Second period rolled round faster than I had expected, mainly because I hardly paid attention to what was happening, and also because of the fact that I had barely finished my coffee. I slowly walked down the hall with Dixon and Drew by my side, wondering if today would be any different than the usual biology, advanced English, chemistry, advanced mathematics and health I had with the two of them.
"Nance, did you hear what I said?" Drew said waving his hands in front of my face.
"Uh. No."
"Oh, well I was saying that maybe we could-"
"Oh my god, Drew!" A feminine voice purred. Ugh. Did she have to be here so freaking early in the morning? It was none other than Rena Sheldon. Miss Popular, Daddy's little Girl, it didn't really matter what you called her, she was still the same stuck up, perky, little, arrogant, bitch.
I looked at Dixon and we both rolled our eyes.
"Come on Dixon," I laughed dragging him along leaving Drew to cope with his current 'situation'.
"You do realise he's going to kill you later right?" Dixon laughed as we stopped by his locker. I shrugged and fiddled with the sleeves of my cardigan.
"Nance, do you have a thing for Drew? I mean, I've known you for ages, but like seriously. It's been ages and you two still haven't gotten together. Not once."
"Dixon, you two are like brothers to me, why would I be romantically involved with either of you two? I just don't see it that way. Is there such a crime to just friends with a guy; or in my case two?" I said exasperatedly.
"It's okay Nance, chill. I was just asking a simple question," Dixon laughed. That's what I loved about Dixon, he never pressed on any issue. If you didn't want to talk about it, he wouldn't push on and bug you all day long. "Come on, we'll be late for bio."
I nodded and walked to bio with Dixon. We sat down in an available desk and waited for the lesson to start and as we began taking out our belongings Drew ran straight through the door huffing, slightly out of breath.
"Do you need an ambulance? Your cheeks are a bit rosy." Dixon laughed as Drew slumped into a seat next to him.
"No, and thanks for waiting up. Do you know how hard it is to pry a- a fiend like her off?" Drew sighed pointing his finger at Dixon and me.
"Firstly, you're welcome and secondly, no I do not know how hard it is to pry her off because I don't like her. Be a man and you know.. just don't talk to her." I laughed.
"Are you trying to suggest that I'm too nice? Nancy Byrne. Who let the bitch out of the kitchen?" Drew laughed.
I stared and gaped at him. Okay so maybe I was trying to suggest that maybe he was a bit too nice, but that didn't mean he could call me a bitch slave that belonged in the kitchen. Men these days. I shook my head and turned around to face the board. He deserved some silent treatment.
"See look, you pissed her off!" Dixon scoffed jokingly.
"Nance, I'm sorry! I didn't mean it. You just told me to-"
"Drew, shut up." Dixon laughed "The woman's giving you silent treatment."
I smirked and continued to take out my belongings and start my work for the lesson. Little did I know that cockiness was going to bite me in the ass.
