Skuffles and Trinkets

Once, there lived a girl named Shelly. Now Shelly loves magic. Loves the thrill of it, and loves being able to use it (for she is a witch after all). Unfortunately for her, she is clumsy when it comes to magic. Meaning, every time she uses it, she somehow messes up. So all the villagers tell her to go into the woods and practice where no one could get hurt in the process. While on her way to the forest, Shelly noticed that a man in a dark hooded cloak was breaking into the village Skuffles and Trinkets shop. It was night time now, so she couldn't really make out any features (from the little she could see) but she did know that the person looked masculine. So she assumed he was a he.

She noticed that he had successfully weaseled his way into Skuffles and Trinkets and so, with her face turning hot, she ran to the shop to save the people from his robbery. Her caprie-length skirts swivvled as she ran, and before she knew it, she was popping into the place, tripping up the one step as she did so.

Inside, she watched as he scurried about, picking things off shelves and putting them into what looked like a pocket of air. Surprised, Shelly realized he was powerful and she needed to be careful. Unfortunately, luck was not on her side as her arm ran into one of the displays, making everything on that shelf fall off. As it hit the floor, it slid to the man's feet and he swirled around in shock, staring at her with surprise clearly written on his face. He took one look at his feet and smirked, knowing she couldn't get him for it seemed that he knew exactly who she was.

"Get away from here!" she commanded to him, but he only laughed at her. Feeling her cheeks become hot, Shelly strode forward and said "now you lookie here. This is a nice villagers trinket shop and you got no business taking things from them," he only eyed her with a smirk on his face then turned back around to finish what he was doing.

Shelly was way mad now, so she pushed back her witch's hat on her head, put her palms together and began to chant. Unfortunately the spell she was trying to conjure came out wrong and white flame sparks began popping every which way, making little fake magic toys pop with whatever it was they could do. The man turned around in annoyance at the girl, but before he could do anything, a spark poppled on the box near his feet and suddenly, purple smoke puffed out in rather quick and large puffs. This caused the man to cough, move around a little in circles, then tripped on one of the steps that went from one height to another in the store. In doing so, he hit his head on the ground and became knocked out.

Luckily for Shelly, whatever the smoke did, didn't affect her and she was able to still be conscious and see her accidental victory. She smiled with satisfaction until she looked around Skuffles and Trinkets, noticing the smoke stains everywhere. Fortunately, the store didn't burn down but it was a little worse for wear. When some of the villagers came out to see what the problem was, they took one look at the trinket shop, one look at the unconscious man, and one look at Shelly and that was all they needed to know.

Shelly thought she was a hero, and she smiled proudly at everyone. But before she knew it they were scorning her, telling her she needed to be more careful and that the poor man who was unconscious was not trying to steal anything. He was the villager magicians apprentice just doing his duty. Shelly was shocked and frustrated. Why did he deam her not worthy to know who he was? How stupid of him!

She left Skuffles and Trinkets, tears prickling her eyes. She skipped her little training that night.

The next day, she didn't dare make an appearance in the village so opted out to go to the lakeside. Deciding she wanted the company of the frogs and dragonflies and Minnie dragons that happened to live there. To her chagrin, the hooded-cloaked man was there, skipping rocks, using simple magic. He heard her huff and puff, then turned around to face her with a smirk plastered on his face.

"You got lucky last night. That same mistake will not be made again." She glared at him as she approached the lake, choosing to have a fair distance in-between them. But fate was not on her side. He ended up moving right next to her.

"What," she tried to say angrily. But it only made her look like a small child who was in trouble. So the man laughed at her.

"You got guts, kid. That's what you got." Shelly only glared harder. She was no kid. She was in her early twenties! But he paid no heed as he walked off, mentioning he'd see her tomorrow.

As time passed on, she met him at the lake more and more often. While still clumsy, it turned out to be a factor that the man, Luke as he was called, liked about her. None too soon they fell in love. He asked her to be his wife, with all her quirks and silliness. She knew it had to be love because no one liked how clumsy she was. But he did.

They got married, had a few kids who became powerful witches and wizards, though they did acquire her clumsiness just a little bit. But not enough for the villagers to hate, nor enough for them to get into trouble with (well... that was true when they got older anyhow). And Luke and Shelly lived happily for all their days. All the villagers came to know and love Shelly and her family, and mourned the death of the two "great ones" as Shelly and Luke became known as.

And Shelly's last breath to her dead husband, "I'm coming."

THE END
