The 2 of them

She looked across and her heart broke. He looked at up and smiled. She couldn't return his smile and quickly turned her gaze down. He didn't understand but it didn't worry him; he would find out later what was wrong.

She sighed and let out a deep breath. She looked up again but not at him this time; at someone else. This time, she smiled softly before putting her head down and getting on with her work.

Tianna had been with Matt for just over two months now. She couldn't deny the fact that she'd had an amazing two months. But she was feeling a little unsure now. And that was because of Declan.

Tianna and Declan had been friend since the second week of college. Over the six months of being at college, they'd grown to be pretty good friends. There was even once a time when she'd had a major crush on him. But that feeling had disappeared when Matt had asked her out.

She'd thought her feelings for Declan wouldn't return. After all, it was just a crush. And she did love Matt a lot.

But lately things between Matt and herself were a bit tense and weird. She didn't know what to do. And that's when she found herself thinking about Declan again.

Declan was as sweet as could be. He may have come across as posh and a snob to others, especially to Matt, but Tianna knew the real him. She saw through the poshness and snobiness. Underneath it all, Declan was the same as everyone else.

Matt, on the other hand, had a completely different opinion. It wasn't the fact that he didn't like Declan but it was because of the closeness Tianna and Declan had.

Matt understood that they were good friends; after all he had a lot of close friend who were girls. But there was something about their friendship which really bugged him. He knew Tianna had liked him; she had told him so. He had laughed it off when she had told him hoping it was just a crush. However, lately he had begun suspecting, as hard as he tried not to, that her feelings for Declan were returning. Nevertheless, it didn't really bother him. Well that's what he told himself.

Declan, however, was oblivious of Tianna's feelings. Having said that, there was one a time when he thought, maybe, just maybe, that she did like him. But this feeling soon evaporated after she started going out with Matt.

Regardless of everything, Declan knew how he felt about Tianna. He's feeling were strong. He did love her a lot. If only she knew.

This time, he looked up and caught her eye. He smiled wildly and winked. She shook her head and stuck her tongue out. Declan tutted playfully and put his head down.

Tianna was suddenly aware of being watched. She looked across. At Matt she saw the hurt in his eyes Once again, her heart broke. She knew she couldn't carry on. She would have to tell him soon. But there was never a right time.

She sighed and let out an other deep breath. She turned her attention towards the clock to see how much longer was left. Five minutes. Four minutes. Three minutes. Two minutes. One minute.

Finally the bell rang. Tianna handed her paper in and started packing everything away. Matt came up behind her and held her tight. She smiled briefly and then looked at Declan. Their eyes met but he quickly looked away. He couldn't stand that she wasn't his. He couldn't stand seeing her with someone else. She understood. Or at least she thought she did. She turned her attention back towards Matt. Where it should've been in the first place.

As they walked out of the room, Matt played with Tianna's fingers. Once they were completely outside, he pulled her close and looked deep into her eyes.

"You ok baby?" he asked, playing and running his fingers through her jet black hair.

... Don't ask me if I love you, know that I love you...don't ask me if I'm ok, know that I'm ok...don't ask me what's wrong, know what's wrong...

"Of course," she simply replied.

Matt pulled her even closer until their noses were touching. He then held her tightly, kissing her for dear life. He didn't want to lose her. She meant the world to him. If only she could say the same thing.

Over the next few weeks, Matt and Tianna went on as if nothing was wrong in their relationship. But they both knew things were weren't working, as hard as Matt tried denying it. He would do everything in his power to make everything work. Tianna had tried her hardest too. But it wasn't enough.

Declan could see her pain. It was killing him. But there was nothing he could do about it. He would just have to be there for her.

The following week, he witnessed something he wished he hadn't. This would leave him in an awkward position. He would have to tell her but he new it would hurt her.

Before doing anything, he confronted Matt. This was the last thing he wanted to do.

Declan wasn't exactly fond of Matt. He never really knew Matt until her started going out with Tianna.

Seeing Tianna with another guy had totally broke Declan's heart. But he could see that she seemed happy, regardless, he wanted to kill Matt when he found out. For Tianna's sake though, he hadn't done anything. Yet.

Tianna told him everything that went on between her and Matt. At first, she seemed happy talking about Matt but as time went on, she started talking less and less about him. That's when Declan realised that something was wrong, however, he didn't push her to say anything. He knew she would tell him in her own time.

And then one day everything came out. About how he was neglecting her, making her feel insecure. About ho he made her feel, how she thought that his love for her was dying. Declan listened to her patiently but the inside of him was firing up. How dare he treat like that! What did he think he was playing at? That's when Declan's hatred for Matt grew he didn't like how Tianna was being treated. If only he could do something.

He continued listening to everything that had happened. As she told her story, his anger kept growing until he thought he would burst. After a moment or two, she broke down into tears. Decaln forgot about his anger and his heart filled with sadness. He didn't like seeing her sin such a state. He put his arm around, telling her everything would be ok.

"At least you understand," she's whispered, resting her head on his shoulder.

Declan merely smiled and stroke her hair as if she was a cat.

As soon as he's seen Matt, he quickly let go of her. As much as he ahted him, Declan didn't want to cause any more problems for Tianna.

She'd been a bit dazed for a moment but then became aware of Matt. She smiled at him as she got up. She then turned towards Declan and hugged him, kissing him lightly on the cheek.

"Thank you," she's smiled before going off.

Declan had watched her go off, touching his cheek as he did so.

... She holds me when i start to cry, makes me smile with just her eyes, shares my hopes...dreams..fears, wipes away all my tears, I love her without regret, I've found her but she's not mine yet...

He'd sighed and walked away.

Matt saw Declan approaching. From the look on Declan's face, Matt knew that he knew. He tried to walk away but Declan grabbed him.

Declan had to do everything in his power not to pucnh Matt. As much as he wanted to, for Tianna's sake he wouldn't. All Declan did was glare at Matt. His eyes said everything.

"You love her, don't you?" Declan wanted to know.

"Obviously!" Matt almost laughed.

"Hmm, just as I thought. Tell her.

"Tell her before I do."

With that said, Declan shoved Matt out of the way and walked off.

The inside of Matt was burning. He hadn't ment to do anything. He didn't mean for things to go so far. But he couldn't help it. Yet he didn't want to hurt her.

The way Declan cared about her was unbelievable. It actually hurt Matt. He knew Declan loved her a lot, just as he did and he knew Declan would do anything to keep her happy. Matt knew that she deserved better but he loved her too much to ever let go off her. He would find a way to make things right again.

Tianna was on her to meet Matt. She passed Declan who gave her a hug, whispering 'you'll be ok'. She was confused by this but before she could say anything, he had wa;ked off.

Just then she saw Matt appraochin and ran up to him, giving him a hug and a kiss. She saw the worry in his eyes and knew something was wrong. She asked ut he assured her everything was fine. She shrugged and told him what Declan had sai.

Matt didn't say anything. He just held her close and sighed. He wanted to tell her. He really did. But he just couldn't fin the courage. He knew that she would be hurt. He knew it would break her. He knew it would kill her But he would tell her when she was ready. For the time being, he held her tightly and didn't want to let go.

Declan observed Tianna for the next few days. From thw way she was acting, he knew that Matt han't said anything. It was now up to him to tell her.

He waited unil there was a time when it was just the two of them. He held her hand her tightly and told her everything. He told her how he'd seen Matt with the other girl, calling her baby and saying that he loved her, she was his one and only.

Tianna listened in silence but the tears were rollig down her face. She thought Matt loed her but he was no different from any other guy. True, she did want to end things with him, but heaing all this hurt her big time. But what hurt the most, was that he didn't have the guts to tell her himself. She had to hear it from Declan. Now she knew how much she menat to Matt. If he loved her, like he said he did, then he would have told her the truth. She knew where she stood.

After Declan had told her everything, he wiped away her tears and held her tightly, whispering 'I love you'. Her heart melted and a smile crept across her face. Now she knew how Declan felt about her. She turned towards him and whispered ' I love you too.' He just smiled and kissed her on the forehead.

For the first time in a long time, both of them felt happy. They had finally found each other. The two of them sat there holding on to each other. Now, Tianna knew what was left to do.

Matt had been looking for her everywhere but he couldn't find her anywhere. He had a funny feeling who she was with. A minute later, he heard footsteps He instantly recognised them. No-body else walked like she did.

He took a deep breath and walked towards her. He had decided to tell her. He gave her a big smile which she returned with a brief one. He hugged her but when she didnt hug back, he knew that she already knew. The smiled vanished from his face almost immediatly. It was replaced with hurt and anger

Who did Declan think he was?! He had no right to tell her anything!

Matt looked at Tianna, opening his mouth to explain. She didn't want to hear any of his lame excuses. She took the ring off, holding a finger to his lips going 'shh'.

... Even though I don't really know you, I still felt this connection, it's true. I told you my secrets coz i thought you were real, I was a fool coz to you I was no big deal. I thought you were differnt, you told me so too, you said you weren't like the jerks I knew. You lied, you said baby i'll take care of you. You made me think you were sweet and kind but all you were doing was messing with my mind. To you it's just a game, answer this do you even rememeber my name? You made me angry many times but i ignored that and still chased you. But now the road to your heart has become too rough. This girl is tough, and she's tired now, she's had enough. I was stupid, i listened to my damn heart and not my head. And where was cupid, let me guess dead? I ain't gonna waste another tear, even though to trust another guy again, I know I'm gonna fear. You did that to me and now i couldn't care less if tomorrow you die. I wouldn't cry coz I'm so over you, GOOD-BYE!...

"It's over," she simply said, handing him the ring and walked off.

Matt was speechless. He couldn't quite believe it. Tianna had just ended it. He was crushed. It hurt so much. Insides of him were burning up. He was angry. Upset. Crushed. Yet, no tears were falling from his eyes. Why? That's what he wanted to know. He loved her, didn't he? Of course he did! But why no tears? Maybe, just maybe, he knew that she would end things sooner or later. And he couldn't say he exactly blamed her. He had been a fool. He had messed things up. He had a made a big mistake. Now, there was nothing he could do to redeem himself.

He avoided her for the next few weekes. He couldn't bare the pain of not being with her, hugging her. holding her. He couldn't face seeing her yet. He knew that he had to move and forget. But that was easier said than done. For now, he would stay out of her way. Enough pain had been caused. Seeing her now would just kill. All the good memories would come flooding back. He didn't want to remember that. Especially not now.

Tianna, on the other yand, couldn't care less about Matt. He had caused her enough pain. If he had been straighy with her from the beginning, things would've been a lot different/ But for now, she didn't want to see him. Yet, she found herself crying to sleep every night. What she'd had with Matt had been special. The'd had a lot of smiles, laughs, jokes. Plenty of happy memories she would treasure. All the fights, hurt, tears would be the ones that she would forget and never come back to.

Anyway, it didn't matter anymore. She had Declan. That's more than she could ever ask for. She knew that he was special. Declan was her one. If only she ahd seen that right from the beginning. But she was glad she had him now. It was better late than never.

Declan couldn't quite believe it yet. He couldn't believe that she was his. Finally his. He had waited a long time for her. And now he would treasure and cherish her. She meant the world to him. He didn't want to ever lose her.

He wouldn't put her through any more pain. Matt had caused her enough grief and pain. He would never do something like that. Never dream to hurt her. He didn't like it when she was hurt. It hurt him too.

Matt walked past them. He was a few metres away and stopped. Seeing them together killed. His heart filled with hurt, pain, regret.

Tianna looked at him and saw the hurt in his eyes.

...No matter what happens, I will always love you. We had good times, we had bad.I never meant to do this. Never meant to hurt you so bad. I was stupid. A fool. I messed up. I made a mistake. But i guess it's too late to say...sorry...

Their eyes met for a minute or so. Declan wrapped his arms around her and glared at Matt.

She looked away first. She turned towards Declan and let their lips touch.

Matt walked away.
