The scouts had set off into the northern wilds;
Searching for new lands, marching all the while;
Found near the mountains were the cozy, old woods;
and the party had stopped, and lowered their hoods.

The trees were gigantic, living leviathans
which until then were untouched by man.
Keeping still in the calm, zephyrous breeze,
they would make grand homes, those wonderful trees.

Days later, those scouts brought carpenters back
to the forest which would soon lack
the gargantuan plants that were so attractive,
which would transform into something more active.

They hollowed out houses throughout the trunks,
scaring off animals like squirrels and skunks.
But it would soon be learned that all was for naught
when the citizens had learned that dead trees rot.
