Chapter 2

Most fiction books that are written about the seemingly endless battle between werewolves and vampires have it all wrong. It has nothing to do with blood or the protection of mankind. It has everything to do with politics. And territory. Werewolves try not to get involved with human lives because we're not exactly trying to get discovered.

Going back hundreds of years, all those rulers from Russia and Germany who tried to take over Romania were vampires. All of them. Romania has belonged to werewolves since the first werewolf, Derik Albescu, stepped foot on Romanian soil. He had been a pure white werewolf when he transformed and he had been revered by humans. Although he was married to a beautiful werewolf named Anabella, he was not known to be monogamous.

Derik roamed the countryside and soon became the Protector of Romania. On his travels, he bedded human maidens and werewolves alike. There are currently an unknown yet immense number of werewolves and half-werewolves that can trace their lineage all the way back to Derik.

Derik fought vampires for the sake of humans but warned his family members never to do the same. Nobody ever knew why but they all trusted his judgment and let Derik handle being the protector. As time passed and his children grew, there seemed to be a larger population of werewolves than there were humans. This led to the Era of Half-Wolves.

When humans and werewolves have a child, the child can transform from his or her human form to their wolf form but they are not the same as werewolves. When weres transform, they become huge monsterous things with immense powers. Half-wolves transform into regular wolves and have no powers at all. There has not been a white werewolf since Derik's first daughter with Anabella.

Calin and I haven't changed yet because there are limitations to transforming into a werewolf. That's another thing books get wrong. Changing has nothing to do with the moon or hunger. Besides, werewolves do not eat human flesh. We eat food like everyone else.

Once a prospective werewolf hits the age of sixteen, they start to experience changes in their body. Their metabolism speeds up and most of the body fat burns away. Then muscles start forming along with sharpened eyesight and hearing. Most weres get taller in the process and every type of possible sickness or virus is rejected from the body. Hair turns shinier, acne clears up, and werewolves all seem to get more attractive somehow. They have a certain glow to them.

Then, once they hit eighteen, the body starts preparing for the change. Unfortunately, it gets a little trickier from there. A werewolf has to have lost a lot of blood and be on the verge of death in order to transform for the very first time. Essentially, this also goes into the spiritual part of the transformation.

Werewolves are essentially "wrong" creatures that are not supposed to be roaming the earth. Thus, all werewolves, like vampires, only believe that there is a hell. Vampires believe that when they are changed from humans to vampires, their souls go to hell and all that is left over is the consciousness and a hunger for blood. Their blood-hunger also comes from their need for a soul. They believe that in sucking all the blood from a human, they will end up sucking their soul essence and therefore feel a little more complete inside. Therefore, it is not the blood itself that fills them but a piece of the human's soul they manage to grasp before it moves on.

It is a little different for werewolves. For one, werewolves are born and not created. One cannot be bitten or scratched by a werewolf to become one themselves. It doesn't work that way.

Being near the brink of death is easy enough in these warring times. As a werewolf starts breathing their last breaths in their human form, their soul moves over and makes space for a second soul. This soul is the werewolf essence that is brought back from hell to inhabit the human body and allow them to transform. Gradually, as a werewolf shifts into their wolf form and back more and more, the wolf soul starts to take over the wolf form completely leaving no space for the human soul. This is why most werewolves train and try to be stronger in their human form. Because once the human soul is cast off by the wolf soul, there is no longer a possibility to change back to a human form and the were is doomed to be a wolf until they die.

**Just wanted to establish a background to my vision of the war between vampires and werewolves. I'll try to put the next chapter up tomorrow but no promises. Please please review!**
