nails digging into the dry earth, claws extended

my limbs tense with the weight of it all,
holding my breath with every second it took to get to you.

i waited for you, heart clamouring like an angry child, aiming to get out of my chest

my whole body waiting to pounce on you, to devour you in one bite

swallow you down my throat and down to my chest, where you could keep my angry heart in check

i waited for you, staring at the space in front of me where i thought you'd be

i waited for you, even when i knew you weren't coming.
