Barry was a Chupacabra. In Spanish "Chupacabra" roughly means "goat-eater". Barry didn't think that that name really applied to him. He wasn't a fan of goats in general, let alone eating them. He tried to tell his parents that he didn't want to eat goat, but they never listened. Nobody ever listened to Barry.

All Barry wanted to do was make a friend. To have a companion that would actually listen to him and would enjoy his company. He had a very hard time finding such a friend. He would go to town to try to find someone to play with, but all the locals would do was yell at him and throw rocks and beer bottles at his head. He tried to tell them that he was nice and wouldn't hurt them, but the never listened. Nobody ever listened to Barry.

One day Barry was wondering through a field when he came across a young boy being attacked by a rattlesnake. The snake was coiled back and ready to strike the boy. Barry was scared but acted quickly to save the boy's life. He grabbed a rock, took careful aim and threw it at the snake. Unfortunately he missed, but he distracted the snake long enough that he was able to run up on it and crack it on the head with a large stick killing the poisonous creature.

The young boy looked at Barry with fear in his eyes. It was the same look that countless others had given him before. It was a look that said, "I don't understand you and therefore I am afraid of you."

Just as Barry was about to turn and leave disheartened, a new look came over the boy. This was a look Barry had never seen before out of a person. It was a look of awe and wonder.

"T-thank you." The boy stammered. "T-that snake would've killed me if it wasn't for you."

Barry stood silent in wonder. He actually had someone talking TO him and not just yelling AT him while chasing him and trying to hurt him.

"I don't know what you are,' the boy went on, 'and I don't know if you can even understand what I'm saying, but thank you. You saved my life."

The boy reached out his hand to shake Barry's. At first Barry shied away as a natural reaction. He was too used to people trying to hit him. But he saw that the boy wasn't trying to cause him harm. He cautiously reached out his own hand and shook the boy's.

"My name is Barry." He said with a smile.

"Holy Hell! You can talk!" Exclaimed the boy.

The sudden outburst scared Barry. He brought his hand back and turned to run away.

"No, wait! Don't leave, please! I'm sorry I yelled. You just startled me. I didn't expect something that looks like you to be able to talk like me."

Slowly Barry turned around and took a step toward the boy. After giving him a once over he decided that the boy really wasn't out to get him. He said, "It's alright. I'm just used to people such as yourself doing more yelling and less being nice."

"I'm sorry to hear that. My name's Evan by the way."

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Evan." Barry said with genuine joy in his heart that he had not felt at any other point in his life.

After that Barry and Evan were the best of friends. They did everything together. They played, the laughed, they cried. Barry would tell Evan stories about his life and Evan would actually listen to him. Evan taught Barry things too. He showed Barry how to ride a bike and shoot a slingshot. The two were inseparable as two best friends could be. Everything was going great until one day when Barry went over to Evan's house to find that his friend had been brutally raped and murdered...
