Chapter One: From The Ritz To The Rubble
….
Present day.
"Hey Noah, we're going to the bookstore after school today. You coming?" I popped out an ear bud as the shadow of my friend jimmy was cast over me. It was a sunny day and I had been taking full advantage of it lying out in the middle of our schools football field.
"What?" I heard jimmy sigh as I raised myself up onto my arms and squinted at his outlined figure.
"I said. We're going to the bookstore after school. You in?" I shrugged "sure" and dropped back down on my back.
"Now go away" I made a shooing motion with my hands "music, sun, break, almost over." I could practically feel his eyes rolling as he walked away. I didn't care. I just closed my eyes and let that warm sun roll over my body as the last ten minutes of lunch ticked by.

"Ugh. Why did she have to come?" I grumbled under my breath. My boyfriend, bless his heart, just reached around my waist and pulled me in close.
"She won't jump your bones and try to rape you. Don't you worry. I won't let anything bad happen to you." His breath lightly tickled my ear as he spoke "you're mine." He caught my earlobe between his teeth and gently nibbled on it for a second and I just stood there in his grasp and shivered.
"Oh. My. God. That is sooooo hot!" the she devil, Danielle, squealed. Yes, squealed. I shuddered at the sound of her voice. The mood completely broken and I pushed away from my boyfriend and crossed my arms in a silent huff.
"We should totally have a three way. Me, you and Austin." She wrapped her arms tightly around mine as she spoke and I flinched involuntarily at the feel of her even being this close.
"Please get away from me." It came out as a whisper, but she probably mistook it for me being turned on by her, eww. As if.
Her arms tightened even more, cutting off the circulation to my arm, and I shot Austin a desperate look.
"Danny, get off my boyfriend before I call Christian over and tell him you think his stilettos make him look like a cheap whore." He reached around behind her and pealed her arms off of me and I was free to walk away.
"But he does look like a cheap whore." she pouted.
Austin just sighed. "Not the point. Now go away. You're annoying us." I inwardly smiled. Thank you Austin.
"But….but….but….our three way" Danielle was all but crying.
I shuddered at the mental image. Disgusting. Jimmy you bastard. I can't believe you invited her.
Funny story. A long long time ago, meaning 7th grade, Danielle and I had been friends. Actually she considered herself my best friend where I just thought of her as a friend. Through out 7th grade she would always follow me around in class, during lunch, after school on the bus and sometimes even to my house.
The day that I told her I was gay she freaked out and professed her undying love to me. Well needless to say I obviously burst that bubble immediately. When we got into the 8th grade things started to get worse. Whenever we would go out with friends she would latch onto my arm like she was my girlfriend or something. Whenever she got 'cold' she would wrap my arm around her and try to entwine my fingers with hers. Each time I would pry off her arms and move away or tell her to stop it. Even our friends were starting to get annoyed.
One day I finally just snapped. It was lunchtime and we were all lounging around in a corner of the library. I was one of the few sitting in a chair while most everyone else was on the floor. Danielle had come in last and immediately spotted me so she bounced over and dropped unceremoniously in my lap, lacing her arms around my neck.
At this time I had already started dating Austin, she knew it and my friends knew it. Unfortunately Austin wasn't there today since he was sick. I remember cause one that day I snapped and two I visited him before and after school.
Well now we get to the snapping part. I quickly stood up and she fell to the floor with a soft thud, since the fall wasn't all that far.
"What the fucking hell!? Why won't you leave me the hell alone!? I've told you time and time again! I'm gay I don't like you and I never will like you so get it through you thick fucking skull!" Danielle just stared up at me slack jawed as I furiously screamed at her. Everyone else was silent and just watched. I bet somewhere inside they all knew this was bound to happen.
"We can't be friends anymore. I'm not going to tolerate this anymore and I'm sick and tired of telling you over and over to stop. Just drop fucking dead Danielle!" with that out of the way I ended up storming out of the library just as the librarian was coming to see what all the commotion was about. I spent the rest of the day, or should I say, the rest of the year avoiding and ignoring her at all costs.
"She's gone now." A pair of arms wrapped around my chest and held me loosely. Austin's voice came out whispered.
"Thanks. You're the best boyfriend anyone could ever hope for." I could feel the smile on my face as Austin nuzzled my neck. Lightly biting me every now and then.
"Wanna go find jimmy and yell at him?" I nodded eagerly and Austin just chuckled.
"It's not funny." I whimpered "this is serious business." Austin just broke out into laughter as I pouted.
"Let's go find him then."

Jimmy ended up being in the anime/manga section, typical asian jimmy.
"You suck elephant balls jimmy." he just looked up from his manga with an amused expression on his face like I just accidentally ruined a bad joke.
"They're pretty tasty. Must be from the peanuts." he turned back down to his manga and I scowled. I could feel Austins smirk behind me and I shot him a dirty look. He just shrugged, immune to my immaturity.
"I can't believe you brought her along. You were there jimmy so you should know how much I despise her."
"Just because you guys aren't friends anymore doesn't mean the rest of us aren't" he hummed, his nose still buried in his stupid manga.
"Yeah, but…."
"If it bothers you that much, just ignore her. I already told her not to bother you two so just let it….."
"JIMMY! Oh. My. God. Don't you think lelouch and suzaku would look so hot together!? I think I'm gonna write a…." Danielle came bouncing around the corner and stopped when she saw us her eyes going wide for a second before being replaced with a knowing look.
"So you've come back for our three way have you?" her eyes gleamed with what? Lust? I don't know but it was starting to creep me out. Jimmy just stood there not caring what the hell was going on. His head stuck in that frickin manga.
I visibly shuddered.
"Hell no you stupid bitch!" Danielle smiled a dark creepy smile and we all noticed when jimmy took a step back giving Danielle a clear view of us. I could see a faint smirk on jimmy's lips. That conniving bastard.
"Oh I love it when you talk dirty" Danielle's voice came out husky and she took a step forward. I immediately took a step back. Right into Austins chest.
Danielle bit her lower lip and continued to move forward.
"Uhhh…Austin?" my voice came out in a whisper as I turned my head to look up at my boyfriend's face. Any other time I probably would've laughed at the creeped out look but not today, not right now.
"Maybe we should…."
"yeah." He nodded fully understanding what I was trying to say "just walk back very slowly." we were treating this like some wild animal was staring us down, ready to attack.
His arms reached around me as we slowly walked backwards. Obviously we weren't fast enough because Danielle was closing the distance fast.
"Oh…shit." I gulped. "Just run!" we both turned and made a break for it.
We had just made it to the mystery section when the lights in the store went out. Blackout?
"What the hell? Why'd the lights go out?" I recognized that voice.
"Alyssa?" there was a slight shuffling to our right and then a pause.
"Noah?" it was her.
"I didn't know you were here too." I was beaming but obviously she couldn't see what with the lights being out and all.
"Yeah, there are more of us. We all took different cars. Who'd you come with?" I laced my fingers with Austins and pulled him beside me.
"That would be me" he spoke up.
"Of course it would. You two are never apart." Was that sarcasm?
At that moment the earth began to shake.
"What the hell? First a blackout and now this?" I tried to stay steady but it was harder than I thought so I just dropped down onto the floor pulling Austin down with me.
"This is so weird" Alyssa called out. I could feel the bookshelves surrounding us rocking. Were they gonna fall over? Oh I hope not.
The shaking got harder and this time you could hear things falling and crashing. People in the book store could be heard panicking.
"Shit. What should we do?" I know I was about to start panicking if this didn't stop soon.
"It's too dark to move around so its best if we just stay put." Alyssa's voice sounded like it was right next to us. And a second later I felt her hand land on my shoulder.
"Yeah, you're right. We should just…." Something hard and heavy came crashing down on my head and the last thing I heard before passing out was Austin's voice saying this would all be over soon.
