A/N: Okay so this story was originally a paper I did for English. I was looking through some old writings, found this, and wanted to see if I could make it into a one shot. I hope you guys find it humorous, my teacher did :) Enjoy!
Tutoring a Rival
Bri gripped the steering wheel harder; her dark green orbs glared relentlessly at the open road ahead of her. She pushed the accelerator harder, going a good twenty miles or so over the speed limit. Too soon she pulled into her school's parking lot, but before she had time to get out of the car her best friend, Tara, ran up and started tapping on the window. Bri rolled down the window slightly annoyed.
"Bri, what took you so long to get here? You're usually here before me. And I got here like 15 minutes ago," Tara said as she pushed up her glasses for the fifth time that morning.
"Tara I am aware of this. My stupid annoyance of a brother messed with my alarm clock again and screwed it all up," Bri said as she grabbed her backpack and got out of her car.
"Well then, that would explain the hair," Tara tried to keep in her giggles.
Bri rolled her eyes. She already knew that her dark brown hair looked like a mess. She barely had time to try and brush it, let alone style it. So in true Bri fashion, she piled it on top of her head and into a messy bun.
I would love to stick around and chat with you Tara, but I got to go…" Bri looked down at her watch, "now."
"Why? We still have time until the final bell rings." Tara gave Bri a confused look.
"I have to tutor Tori Mellington." Bri said with enough venom to rival a snake's.
"Tori Mellington?" Tara's voice was one of disgust.
"She's failing English Honors and Mr. Barner thought that making me tutor her would such a lovely idea."
"Well, Tori failing isn't much of a surprise, but you are the smartest person in that class Bri."
Bri shifted her weight a little and replied, "Yeah, I know…totally sucks being the smartest sometimes."
Tara absentmindedly started to play with her shoulder length red hair as she spoke, "Oh yeah, and being smart is such a bad thing. Woe is Bri." Bri smirked at her friend's sarcasm and told Tara she would see her later.
When Bri got to the classroom she just stared blankly at the locked door while thinking, "Why Tori Mellington of all people?"
Tori hated Bri and she hated Tori. Yeah, they might have been really good friends at one point, but not now. Tori had become everything Bri detested. She was stuck up, vile, rude, and a total fake. If it wasn't the throwing herself at any and every popular guy who passed her, it was her insensitivity to those on the bottom of the "Social Ladder". The only time Bri felt any sympathy for Tori now a day was when it came to her grades. Bri had no idea how that girl made it into English Honors. She was sure Tori's GPA had to start with a zero.
"Are you going to just stand there like the idiot you are, or do I need to show you how to open a door?"
Bri immediately recognized the obnoxious voice and almost laughed out loud when she thought about the irony in Tori's comment.
"I'm the idiot? Yet you're the one who needs the tutoring. I think you have your logic a bit twisted, Tori." Bri turned around to see Tori's face form a scowl.
"I don't have to take lip from someone like you…a social reject." Tori's scowl turned into a wicked grin.
Bri wasn't fazed by Tori's comment on her social status. "And I care what you think of my 'social status' because…?"
Tori opened her mouth to say something but was interrupted by Mr. Barner walking down the hallway towards them.
"Good morning Bri and Tori, I'm glad to see the two of you here on time." Mr. Barner unlocked the classroom and motioned for the two girls to enter. Tori pushed pass Bri and took a seat in the far back of the class.
Bri closed her eyes and took a deep breath trying to calm the building frustration and annoyance. She opened her eyes, looked at Tori filing her fingernails, and reluctantly strode to the back of the room. "This is going to be a long tutoring session," Bri thought.
Mr. Barner picked up a stack of papers off of his desk, "Okay, I have some errands to run. I trust you two to be the responsible young ladies I know you are." Mr. Barner tilted his glasses down as he looked directly at Bri and Tori. Bri nodded her head and Tori mumbled something that sounded like "okay old man". Mr. Barner seemed satisfied with their responses and left the room with his large stack of papers.
As Bri pulled out her English notes her thoughts drifted to what her friends were doing. She wished she could be with them joking around and laughing like usual. Suddenly she felt something hit her in the head. She reached up to where she was hit and froze when she felt something wet and slimy.
Bri slowly turned to Tori, one hand still on the mystery glob in her hair. There sat a very smug looking Tori Mellington. She flipped her curly platinum blonde locks over her shoulder with one hand.
"Opps," Tori said in an all too innocent voice.
"Why is your gum. In. My. Hair?" Bri had to grit her teeth to keep from yelling.
"Must have slipped, doesn't matter though, nothing you could think to do to that haystack on your head will ever make it look good. If anything, I did you a favor. Now you have an excuse to cut that wild mane of yours."
Bri saw nothing but red. Her mind didn't process the fact that she had tackled Tori to the ground until she was pulling on the blonde's hair.
"Get…off..of me…you…moron!" Tori screeched as she tried to wrestle Bri off of her.
"Wow, I'm surprised moron is even in your…vocabulary!" At that moment Tori had managed to push Bri off of her, but not without losing a fist clump of hair. Bri stood up looking triumphant with the clump of Tori's hair in her fist. This was better than any trophy she had gotten for playing volleyball Bri thought.
Tori slowly picked herself up off the floor and stared wide eyed at the clump of hair.
"Why you little b-"
"Ladies!"
Both girls simultaneously snapped their eyes to Mr. Barner, who was now carrying a file and a cup of coffee. His facial expression was beyond livid. That's when Bri noticed all the chaos around her.
Two of the chairs had been knocked to the ground, her notes were in a scatterd pile on the floor, and both she and Tori looked a mess. Tori's hair was in disarray, she had a torn sleeve, and somehow one of her heels and broken off. Bri looked down to examine herself. Her clothes looked fine, but her hair was another story. She caught her reflection in a nearby mirror and was frightened by her own hair. It had come undone from the messy bun and it now cascaded down her back in a very unattractive fashion. Parts of it were in knots and she had Tori's blue wad of gum tangled on the side.
"Sit. Now."
When all was explained to Mr. Barner, after a bunch of yelling and arguing, the two girls had been separated. Mr. Barner went to the main office, but he made sure to have a teacher supervise while he was gone this time. When he returned he sat at his desk in complete silence, giving both girls a look of utter disappointment, especially Bri.
Bri couldn't meet his gaze. She was already ashamed of letting Tori get the best of her, but she couldn't keep herself from smiling on the inside. The look on Tori's face when she saw the locks of hair in Bri's hand made all the mess worthwhile in her opinion.
Bri turned her attention to Mr. Barner when he started to list off their punishments. Even though she knew that she would get in a boat load of trouble when she got home she couldn't bring herself to feel too bad or really care. Mr. Barner should have known better than to make her tutor Tori Mellington, her one rival in the entire school.
A/N: That's it! I hope you guys enjoyed it. I would love some feedback on what you thought. Thanks peeps!
