The Dark One
Chapter 1
New Life
Where did he go? I thought as I stared around the empty graveyard, trying to catch my breath. UGH! He was right here! I paced around the area where I was standing, deep in thought. On my second stroll around the tombstone I heard scratching were the wall of the cemetery was. I cautiously followed the sound and AHA! There he is! I raced forward and pulled him down from the ivy vines growing over the ancient wall. "NO! PLEASE STOP!" The kid yelled as I brought him up to my face. I wanted to let him go to let him run home safe, but the hunger was killing me. So without a moments haste, I lowered my fangs to his soft white skin shining in the full moons light. "Pleaseā¦" Was all I heard before I was lost in the darkness of my own hunger.
It has been 15 days since the attack and my own death. It was a fast one at least. That was the only thing I could think of when I dwelled on my past. I couldn't remember who I was, why I was here, or where I came from. All I remembered was the sharp pain on my neck, a scream, and the smell of blood. When I woke up I was by a puddle of dried blood. The pain in my throat began in the same instant and hunger for blood swept over me and so I hunted. The kid was up late, on the street, and thankfully alone. An easy catch except he ran when he saw me, though the chase was entertaining. I left his body where I found him and went on my way. Right food is out of the way now, next a place to stay. That was easier then I thought. I walked down another block and ended up at an abandoned house. Looks comfy, so I went in. The house was huge and nicely furnished. A bit of dust here and there but other then that clean. I spent the rest of the night looking over the house and decided where I was going to sleep. The sun rose through the dark curtains and started to burn my arm, so I went to bed and gladly drifted in the darkness.
I don't know how late it was, but the moon was high and the burning pain followed by the hunger of blood started kicking up again, but the memory of the drained child made me lose my appetite for human blood. Thank goodness for the overgrowing forest next to this mansion, even from this distance I could hear the beating of tiny hearts beating fast and warm. Time to hunt, I ran down the ever twisting stairwell, out the door, and through the tight growing woods. Almost instantly a breeze carried a scent of deer. 5 minutes latter I was peeking through thickets watching the beasts grazing and drinking in the moons light, hunger burning my throat again; almost instinctively I crouched testing the wind blowing through my hair. Almost like gods will, a strong wind blew toward me, carrying my scent downwind. "Perfect." I hissed to myself and almost like a bullet from a gun, I bounded toward the herd, and snatched the huge leading buck before he could warn the herd of my presents. By the time I finished draining the buck, the herd was probably miles and miles away. Ah well I'm full anyways. The sun started to shine on the horizon by the time I got back to my silent home.
