Chapter Two
I wake up on September 9th, at 6:56 AM. If I want to make a good first impression on my first day of eleventh grade, it'll take about an hour to get ready.
After I take a do all my daily things in the morning, I also apply a little mascara and clear lip gloss. It doesn't look all that different than how I usually do, since I'm a make-up free type of person. I check my watch, and am grateful to see that I'm thirty minutes ahead of schedule.
Picking up my iPod, I slowly stroll out the door with my backpack carelessly strung over my back. I randomly choose the song Halo by Beyonce, which is one of my favorite songs.
The streets are empty as I take the long way to school, singing all the way. I know the route blindfolded, and I nod my head back and forth, close my eyes, and mouth along while Beyonce sings.
I don't notice the sweaty guy in front of me until I smash into him and scream.
"Ohmygosh, you surprised me!" I breathe out. But I am even more astonished when my eyes meet with the eyes of Dream Guy.
"Sorry," he answers. "Hey, I think I've seen you somewhere."
"Um, yeah. I saw you at the park a while back. You were playing with a crowd of little kids," I mentally hit myself on the head. Wow, do I sound stalkerish or what?
"Hmm… oh yeah! You were swinging with your friend, weren't you?" his face brightens up with realization.
"I guess. Hey, what school do you go to?" I ask.
"Jeffery High. You?"
"Same! Are you new? I've never seen you at school."
"Yeah, I just moved here from Minnesota. Some of my family lives here."
We talk for the next ten minutes, when I glance at my watch. It stares back at me, the time saying that it's 7:54.
"Oh, shoot! We're going to be late!" I interrupt him. "I need to go!"
"Okay, bye! I should change into clean clothes," I look at his running shorts and t-shirt that reads, "OBSERVE THE MASTER".
"Sure. See you around school!" I shout while he jogs away.
As I round the corner to school, I spot Vida and we rush to each other.
"Hey, you! Why are you smiling so big?" Vida greets me.
"I had a conversation with him!" I squeal and jump up and down, while Vida follows my lead.
"Really?! I knew that you guys would meet again! Do I have to say I told you so?!" she screams.
"Ha! No, you don't, because I'll tell you that you were right and I was wrong! You're always right! What, do you have ESP?"
She laughs. "Yes, I do."
"Vida!" I mock shock and hurt. "I thought you could tell me anything!" She playfully slaps my arm, and we laugh at our own jokes, because, let's face it, we're both hilarious.
First period: PE
Great. Just great. Everything was going so great, and now I have PE. And for FIRST PERIOD! I'm gonna have to go around school smelling like dirty socks and sweat for the rest of the day!
Not to mention that I hate gym class. I'll admit it. I'm horrible at sports! In elementary school, when there's two team captains, and they choose their teammates, I'm at least in the bottom five. Out of at least thirty kids. You get what I'm saying?
I scan the gym for a friendly face. Shoot. There's only Elliott, a guy who's "secretly" had a crush on me since the 7th grade, and Kylie, a nice girl who's everybody's friend. Oh, and also Janie, who wants to be popular, so she tries to befriend the whole school population. She even follows all the trends, but she doesn't look good in ripped jeans or tight shirts….
Anyways, I sit next to Elliott, and he blushes.
"H-h-hey Sudie! How w-was your summer?" he blushes even deeper.
But I don't even notice, because right then, Dream Guy walks through the gym doors.
My jaw drops, and I can't help thinking, Whoa….
The reason I thought that was because Dream Guy looked, unsurprisingly, hot!
Well, I know I shouldn't have been astonished. But I think everybody, especially the girls, were. Surprised, I mean.
Because in a snug plain white t-shirt that showed and incredibly lean and tan body and dark blue jeans, the new guy looked a lot better than this morning. And this morning, he looked, must I say again, really HOT! And people in this town like to stare at cute guys.
He spotted me, and started striding over to where I was sitting, mainly because I was probably the only person he knew. Everybody stopped what they were doing and stared at us, while my face started burning up. Luckily for me, my face rarely turns red, it just heats up.
"Uh, hey…?" Elliott, who I completely forgot about, started poking my arm for attention. Hard.
"Yeah?" I snapped my head to face toward him, but I was still looking at YouKnowWho.
"Helloooooo! Can't you look at me for a second?" For the first time since Elliott started having a crush on me, Elliott didn't sound tentative, shy, or scared. He actually sounded confident and brave, with a little hint of (was it my imagination?) anger. Elliott never gets mad, so that's why I looked him dead in the eye,
"Yeah, sorry. What was it that you were saying?" He turned back to his old shy self, since I had become more intense.
"Well, uh, I was just wondering….Never mind. It's a stupid idea."
"You never have any stupid ideas! Now, tell me!" I demanded.
"Um, okay, if you insist…. Willyougooutwithme? Next week?" but he said it really rushed and smushed together, so it sounded like, "Willyagoithe!" and not at all like a question, more like he exclaimed it. Just as he asked me, the hot guy came up.
Good thing, because I was pale, and my mouth was slightly ajar, and I was speechless, too. Then, all at once, blood rushed up to my face, and I was blushing for like, the first time in six months.
Elliot knew about me and my non blushing problems, so when he saw that I was (blushing), it looked like he just realized that he asked me out, so he kept on opening and closing his mouth like a fish.
"Did you just…?" I started, but then stopped. I knew that he had a crush on me (not to sound conceited or whatever), but I didn't think he had the guts!
All the while, the guy from my secret dreams just looked at me, then at Elliott, and back again.
