a day will come when you will
disintegrate into what you came from.
& there will be no life left
to breathe through you.
but still rejoice, my friend,
for the day is long off.
or at least we all hope.
& even so, the day you look upon with fear and with pain
will be your day of liberation.
all that's left of your body will float
freely. & you, you will be giving back to the land
that gave you sustainance for so long;
you'll be selfless without a self to be had.
you'll be the reason for healthy families,
and a pleased heavenly father.
you'll have won.
you'll have won.
so when the skin on your face,
wrinkles, and sags,
be strong, my friend;
be strong.
when the ears that you have,
cease to sense noise,
be strong, my friend;
be strong.
when the nose that you have,
ceases to smell,
be strong, my friend;
be strong.
when the lips that you have,
chap, and grow cold,
be strong, my friend;
be strong.
when the tongue that you have,
ceases to taste,
be strong, my friend;
be strong.
when the hands that you have,
cease to feel touch,
be strong, my friend;
be strong.
and when all else fails,
and only your mind does not desert you,
think of me.
i carry your heart in my pocket;
my hand always slightly touching it.
i hold, love and take care of it,
giving it back to you in your time of need.
you'll remember the sensations of youth;
of love once had and heard of.
you'll hear, and see, and taste and touch,
before the tears flow,
the eyelids rest,
and your body
starts drifting
away.
