Eva POV

I stood alone in the crowds near the doors to the school, clutching my empty bag to my chest. Through the canvas I could feel my heart having a melt down. I had never done this before, starting at a new school and knowing no one.

This was all Dad's fault. I mean, I should have expected it earlier, it could have been Montréal instead of Edmonton so I guess this isn't that bad. But it's still all his fault! He just HAD to get promoted and posted to this gigantic city with way to many people! There are even all these troops just marching around like its normal!

Although this is another thing I should have expected considering I'm going to school on the military base, but still! I'm just a small town girl (at least up until now!) and I had never seen anyone in uniform except for my father. Obviously, my dad's a soldier in the Canadian Armed Forces. Pretty kick ass right?

Not! ESPECIALLY when you're uprooted from your life of SEVEN YEARS to move to some random city! I can already tell that it is going to be warmer here though, which will be nice! *grumble grumble *

Ok! Back to the present!

Trying to look over people's heads I search for the one face I might recognize. This is harder than it seems, considering I'm only 4'11 and not expected to grow anymore. The Shock of red hair finally comes out of the crowd, Lyza, who happens to live down the street from me is new too. Our mom's started chatting when they saw each the other moving van and discovered both their girls were in the same grade. She is about 4 inches taller than me with bright blue eyes.

"Nervous?" Lyza asks, almost bouncing with nervousness.

Glancing up from under my blondish bangs, "You have no idea." I reply.

She giggles awkwardly as the bell rings and the crowd begins to file inside. Everyone already knows which class they are in as it was posted on the doors a couple days ago. Lyza and I happen to snatch seats beside each other and I fidget with my fingers as we wait for the class to start.

"Hey, obviously your new here. My name is Chance, What yours?" I look up from my hands to see a boy with short brown hair and blue eyes, kinda chubby but with time it almost guaranteed that he will be a looker.

"Eva, I've only been in the city for about a month." I say quietly. Have I mentioned that I hate meeting new people?

"That isn't bad! Don't worry, I've heard this teacher is pretty cool! He should be nice, and we are really used to new kids cause we're mostly military so ya don't have to worry about making friends. We will come to you!" He laughs which makes me grin back at him. Chance… hmmm cool name. Sure seems nice.

The teacher walks in and slams his desk at the front of the class, everyone jumps and a couple girls scream as he grins stupidly at our shocked faces.

"My name is Mr. Frosh and don't forget it! Leave all your junk here cause we are going to get our textbooks and lockers, follow me and don't get lost! You do, and I won't be coming to find you cause that just way to much effort! So stay close!" He basically runs out of the classroom leaving the rest of us to scramble after him. During the chaos, Lyza links her arm though mine and Chance falls into step with us on my other side.

"Lyza, this is Chance. Chance, this is Lyza, she lives down the block from me." I introduce as I point to the corresponding life form.

" Nice ta meet you. I'm Chance Beere. What are your guys last names?" he asks, raising his eyebrows.

"Reeve."

"Handcock." Both heads turn to me, and they pause in the middle of the hallway causing a slight backlog.

"Seriously, your name is Handcock?" Lyza inquires.

"Ya… why is there something wrong with it?" I ask hesitantly, and start walking again.

"Well… your name is hand… cock…. dirty." Chance answers amused. Thinking for a minute, I look back and forth between them. Then it clicks.

"OH! EWWW! No one has ever pointed that out to me before!" the other two look at each other and shake their heads.

"Small town girls, what shall we do with them?" Lyza giggles.

" My thoughts exactly." Chance agrees. I grin at them as we reach the school library. The crazy(at least Chance tell us she is) librarian hands us our books. She glares at me over her stereotypical librarian glasses. Yup, defiantly crazy. I look over her into the main body of the library and I see it, the most marvelous thing in the entire universe. An entire shelf dedicated to Lord of the Rings! It's my dream come true!

Ok so there is some explaining to do. I've watched the Fellowship of the Ring about 21 times, by my counts, and i can quote the entire prologue. I've got a count down until the Two Towers comes out on my calendar, and I own and have read the books way to many times, but never the branch books. And by the looks of it, they have all of them!

Squealing, I run past the crazy librarian and into the library! I grab the first three books i see, knowing then they are in order and part of a series. Then i run back to the crazy librarian and almost scream at her, "CAN I SIGN THESE OUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOW!?"

Looking quite taken aback she nods and scans the books. Turning to face my new, but fast growing friends, I clutch the books to my chest with love. The two of them seeing the fanatic gleam in my eyes burst out laughing and guide me back to the class.
