Chapter 3 .

Eighth Grade

Seth POV

I stepped off the bus with Chance, joking around with him and a couple of our other buddies. My eyes immediately scan the schoolyard for her. Nope, must be inside. We enter into the main doors and make our way down to the eight grade lockers.

I hip checked my backpack into my locker, slammed it closed and went off to find her. My eyes are attuned to the height of her hair, and I study that level trying I find her. Thankfully, she dyed streaks of green and blue into her hair that made her like a beacon in the rest of the crowd. I start to frown when I don't see her in the hallways and head to her classroom door.

I peak inside and silently gasp. There she is.

She shocks me every time I see her. She's so beautiful, and her hair, her now blue thick glasses, and the massive amount of jewelry she wears and rings on every finger. She is unique and her own person. I respect her for not being like everyone else in this stinking school. I'm staring at her from the doorway when she finally looks up at me and she smiles. My heart skips a beat every time I see it. The way her lips curve and how it touches her eyes.

Just as she moves to get up to see me, the bell rings. She gives this adorable glare up to the speaker in the corner of the room and sits back down. I laugh and wave bye at her, fully knowing that she is going to be on my mind all class.

Eva POV

I had been sitting in my desk when I felt eyes on me. When I looked up, Seth had the most curious expression on his face and he was starting at me. His lips slightly parted and eyes wide, as if something shocked or surprised him.

Now its lunch, and I'm sitting on the picnic table outside in the junior high section of the schoolyard. I've been thinking about his expression all day. I just can't figure out why it's nagging at me so. Suddenly, fingers in my sides interrupt my though process!

"YEOOW!" I scream, and then try to act all natural about it, "So Lyza, what's crack-a-lakin?" She raised her eyebrows.

"Not that phrase! So guess what I just heard by the lockers!?" She gushes excitedly.

"Not Daniel forgetting about food in is locker again, is it? Seriously, mine is like three down and I can still smell the spaghetti from last time!" I groan.

I am so completely disgusted by Daniel and his food forgetting capabilities; nor his abilities to mess up the smell of the whole row of lockers. The spaghetti wasn't the first one either! Mac and cheese, soup, sandwiches, tuna sandwiches! Tuna sandwiches are a lot different than normal ones! They start smelling before they even turn fuzzy!

"NO! That Chance likes you! You know, he has gotten pretty hott over the summer!" She wriggles her eyesbrows at me. That is true, he lost a fair amount of weight and was building some serious muscle. But him liking me still didn't make sense. Who would like me? I'm just the weirdo!

"He can't like me though! We're buds, chums, bros in arms! It just doesn't work if he likes me!" I exclaim, quite put off and flustered by this new piece of information, "Anyways, WHY would he like me? There are tonnes of girls who would love to have him, who aren't as good of friends. Don't you think it would be awkward for the two of us?"

"Not really," Lyza ponders, "I think it would be kinda cute actually, I mean it would be like a serious cliché, but totally adorable!" I can't help but giggle at the sight of her. She's so excited about this gossip that her hair is being thrown around, making her head really look like its on fire!

"I'm just not sure if I can see him that way," I say thoughtfully, "I mean, this has kinda been sprung on me. Maybe I'll just see what he does and if he's man enough to actually ask me out. Then I'll think about it." I go back to my lunch. Boys are fun to hang out with, but I'm not sure if I want to date someone. It just doesn't seem like something that would be fun at this age. Maybe I'll just say that my parents don't let me date….

Seth POV

"DUDE! Help me! She knows, she knows!" I can hear Chance yelling from down the hall, its funny listening to his voice get louder and louder and… * THUMP*

"You ass! Can't you at least try to watch where you're running!" I yell at him while rubbing my shoulder, which got the full force of his head. Why does he always have to hit me! Although I had grown about 3 inches over the summer, so now he only came up to my eyes. But since the idiot was running with his head down! Geez! "Now what the heck do you want?"

He grabbed my shoulders and started shacking me, "SHE KNOWS!"

"Who knows what?" I ask, with my head rocking back and forth from his relentless shaking.

"Eva knows I like her!" He yells. I grab his wrists and pull his hands off me.

"Since when do you like Eva?" I ask guardedly. She's mine. No that's bad thinking, She isn't mine and can date whomever she wants… even though I want her… badly.

"Since like forever! Now! She knows and she hasn't said anything to me yet!" he drops his face into his hands, then starts banging his head on the locker beside me.

"And why would she say anything to you? You're the man! Take some initiative! Go talk to her yourself!" Why are you encouraging this! Why are you setting yourself up like this! I whack myself on the forehead. Stop stop stop!

"Dude you ok?" Chance asks, but doesn't let me respond, "You're right! I should be showing my manliness to her!" I tell him, flicking the back of his head in the process. He turns from the lockers and puffs up his chest, gorilla pounds them yelling, "I'm the man! I'm the man!" Then he deflates again, "What should I ask her to?"

"I donno, maybe the teen dance?" I offer shrugging, talking about the dances that the military family place puts on every month.

"Great idea! OOOHHH EVA?" he exclaims and races off down the hallway. I slump against the locker and breathe out slowly. I'm so stupid.
