Chapter 5 Planning my Death, Normal?
The two Stevens women looked at each other.
"You can't be freaking serious." Jessie stated in a flat voice, "Do you have any idea how much planning would go into that!"
"It's been planned already." Matthias informed them, "And will take place next month. July 16th."
Jessie's jaw hit the floor I have a month to say goodbye to everyone I've ever loved, a month to say goodbye to Brandon… Her mind was whizzing with questions and memories, but always refocusing on a pair of striking blue eyes.
Her mother placed a hand on her shoulder, clearing her mind of the confusion and slight panic. The older woman looked up, "How will my daughter die?"
"From a car crash, Mrs. Stevens." Matthias answered, "Most of the preparations have been planned and we have already placed people in specific positions to make the accident seem as natural as possible."
Mrs. Stevens eyes narrowed, mirroring her daughters, "How is planning my daughters fake death natural, I ask you?" She stood up from the chair's arm and hissed, "Now get out of my house before I throw you out, and we shall see no one from the government for at least two weeks." Her eyes were throwing daggers at the men across the room.
The two bodyguards shot up from their spots and were through the door before she could finish her sentence. Spineless children. Afraid of a woman… a dangerous woman, but still they should be ashamed of themselves.
"I will do as you wish, but will we be back at you house June 30th to begin planning with your daughter." He walked towards the door, turned and waved at the women and closed it behind him.
Jessie and her mother looked at each other then fell into the other's embrace, shedding silent tears until the sky went dark.
This is so frustrating! Brandon thought. He was currently staring at about a dozen silver solitaries, trying to figure out which one of these rings were going to match his love the best.
The older woman across the counter with silver-white hair and moon glasses sitting on the end of her nose stared up at his tall frame, "You know my boy, aren't you a little young to be looking at engagement rings?"
"Well ma'am, I'm 18, along with my girlfriend, but when you've found the one you've found her. You shouldn't just let her go because everyone else thinks you a little young." He smiled down at her, gaze only just flickering from the rings. "I'm starting to think that picking a ring is harder than finding the girl!"
The woman laughed as he scrubbed his eyes, the glare from the lights off the diamonds was starting to hurt. "AHHH! What do I do!" He thumped his head onto the glass counter, making the woman start to giggle again.
"Well what kind of girl would you describe her as?" She asked, "Maybe I can help based off her personality?"
"Well, she's a simple girl," The woman took about 4 rings off the counter, "She isn't boastful or cares what others think of her, she's her own person and totally unique. She doesn't really care for girly stuff and would rather be in the gym than the salon. I'm pretty sure she can lift more than I can! She probably wouldn't actually care which ring I get her as long as it's from me." At this point he looked back down and there was only one box left on the counter.
A Brushed Silver band with Marquise cut diamond, it was perfect. He reached across the counter and pulled the elder lady into a tight hug, then proclaimed, "Excuse me ma'am, but could you please ring me through? I have a woman to propose to!"
Brandon arrived home an hour later and found a message from Jessie saying that she was going on surprise two week long trip to visit both her maternal and paternal extended families before she went off to college. Brandon groaned inside, this ring would have to burn a hole in his pocket for two weeks before he would even be able to think about proposing to his girl.
Jessie arrived home on June 30th, the day Matthias was due to come back and start the arrangements on her death. She set her bags on the floor and took out the gigantic photo album and picture printer paper her mother had bought her the previous day.
She sat down onto her computer and started printing and organizing photos of her life as Jessie Stevens. Creating a memorial of all that she would leave behind in as short as 2 weeks.
In a couple days she would go and see Brandon and take as many pictures with him as possible. Her heart gave a little twinge at the thought that this would be one of the last times she would ever see him.
Her head whipped around as she heard footsteps on the porch, then stood up as the doorbell rang twice. Leaving her room, she vaulted over the banister in the upstairs hallway, landing softly before the front door.
"Well my dear, that was impressive." Matthias smirked as she opened the door for him. "But maybe next time watch for who is looking through the window."
"I knew it was you." She stated flatly, "You walk slightly heavier on your left foot than on your right. Now how are we pulling this off."
"Well, first we will have a man in place that will have a blood alcohol level well over the legal limit…"
