Not Today
by Kiora

I smile and I twirl
As flashes blind my eyes
"Beautiful!" They cheer
I've grown used to their lies

I curtsey, then I bow
And then I look away
Their eyes gaze on so proudly
But I just go on my way

I rehearse my lines with ease
For I'm in someone else's shoes
My broken life was yesterday
Today I've nothing left to lose

The mirror stares straight at me
I pass by without a glance
I don't need to hear the worries
I'll give ignorance a chance

Nothing I do ever seems good enough
I'm not beautiful, just plain
I'm clumsy, I'm aloof
With nothing in life to gain

But someday I'll stand tall
I'll scare my fears away
I'll tell myself I'm beautiful
Someday, but not today
