The Dealer Next Door – Chapter 5

"So. I think it's time for you to do another deal for me."

Nick had rung the doorbell and was standing on my front porch.

"Sure." I smiled at him. I just loved doing drug deals, my favourite illegal pastime.

"Really?" He looked astonished that I had agreed so readily. I laughed.

"No. Fuck No. No fucking way." I crossed my arms and glared at him, "remember last time?"

He was insane. "Aww come on! I'll be there this time; it will be totally different!"

"I said no Nick. Get over it and do your dirty work by yourself" I turned around and closed the door.

I heard another knock on the door.

"What?" I opened the door to find him still standing there.

"If you do it, I'll tell you why I deal." That was a whole different story. I had always wanted to know why he dealt. It was possibly worth the risk. Possibly.

"What's in it for me?" I narrowed my eyes, and he smiled, looking relaxed.

"Free weed? I dunno, a hug?" He suggested, looking confused.

"Well, you're buying me food. Like chocolate. Deal with it." He scowled, but didn't complain.

"Fine." He dragged the word out, "So. Tonight. I'll meet you here at say 9:30?"

"Wow. Late. Where are we going?" I asked.

"It's a surprise." He winked.

"I can't dress for a surprise!" I complained, and crossed my arms.

"Just wear something sexy. So, anything in your wardrobe." He winked. Dang he was so hot- Ah, I mean, annoying.

"I'm not doing anything until you tell me where I'M dealing tonight?"

"Fine. We're dealing coke at a rave." And with that he walked off the porch and disappeared into his house.

For the second time that day, Nick knocked on my door. This time I was ready. Not that I would admit it to him or anything, but I was excited about the rave. I'd never been to one before, and was curious and excited. I was waiting at the door for at least 5 minutes and delayed opening the door for just as long as that.

"Let's go, fool" I brushed past him before he even had the chance to open his mouth and greet me. He just stood there on my porch, mouth open staring, well, staring kind of, at me as I walked. I did look hot in black high waisted shorts, boots, crop top and over excessive amounts of bangles and rings and eyeliner. "Coming or not?" I said.

We walked, well, more like sauntered towards his car, and got in.

We drove.

"So where is this rave anyway?" I questioned in the car.

"It's underground. Can't tell you." He kept his eyes on the road.

"You are a joke." I laughed.

"So they guy you'll be dealing to, well, his name is Mad."

"Mad. What type of loon has that as his name?" I snorted.

"Obviously he does…" he trailed off, and kept driving.

About 10 minutes later he nodded towards the compartment facing the passanger seat, "Open it."

I did just that and saw about a million pills.

"Holy mother fucker. You do know that if the police find this stash, WE will both go to jail."

"Aah, but they won't, if you do your job. Take one of the plastic mini bags, and put 3 pills into it, the small white ones with the C on it." So I did what he said. The sooner I'd get it done, the sooner I could enjoy the rave.

About 15 minutes later the car turned off the road, out of town. We were ages away; right on the outskirts of town. We drove over a paddock, towards a lot of crates, like the big shipping ones in movies, which were surrounded by cars. We pulled up, and nick turned towards me.

"You ready?" I shoved the plastic bag into my pocket.

"As I'll ever be." My heart stopped for a minute as Nick leant over me and opened the car door.

"Let's do this thingy."

He walked in front of me, confidently striding towards the doors where pulsating music was coming from. He greeted the doorman like he was his best friend. I timidly walked towards the heavyset doorman, and smiled nervously.

"Bro, she's with me." And with that, he pushed me into the room, towards the pounding music and towards what would ultimately be my first real drug deal. Great.

I walked through the massive room, squeezing my way through people lighting up, having sex and popping pills. Rave world was like no other. People just casually did cake at a rave. It was wild! I had lost nick ages ago, probably to a) deal drugs b) be the most popular guy in the room. Nick, apparently had a lot of friends. Just about every girl in the room was trying to flirt with him and every guy greeting him like he was a long lost mate. He was the king, pretty much.

And I. I was just a random girl in the room.

"It's time" some freak was whispering in my ear. Shit shit. I remembered all the defence techniques we learnt in health, and elbowed him in the gut.

"Ouch! Are you on your period or something!?" It was only Nick.

"Sorry. Ok. So. Who's my target person thing?" I scanned the room. It was a sea of faces.

"That guy." He pointed to a group of guys smoking in the corner looking a smidge dazed. Wait. One of them looked extremely familiar. Oh my god. It was Brad, as in Brad from school!

How random.

"so Brad want's some coke?" I looked confused.

"Nah man, his mate, the one to the left of him"

The little skinny guy to the left of Brad did look like an addict.

'Okay, so just pretend you want to make out with him or something and then slip him the coke, and he'll slip you the money. I've told him all this. see ya, slut." And with those lovely final words he walked off into the crowd. Dick.

So I tried my best sexy walk, and casually walked up to him. I don't even know his name.

"Hiya. Quinn?" his brow furrowed.

I just winked, and grabbed his hand, and pulled him off to a corner.

"I have your stuff." I said, leaning my face to his.

"Put it in my front pocket" he said, and kissed my cheek.

So I did that.

"Hold my hand and pass me the money" I kissed him lightly on the lips. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Nick watching. I don't think he was too happy because he walked off looking annoyed into the sea of people.

"Pleasure doing business, sweetie" he winked at me, and we walked back towards his mates, 'My name's Steven by the way." He added as an after thought.

We got back to Steve's mates, and straight away brad noticed me.

"OMG Quinn! I didn't know you did raves!" he was quite enthusiastic, 'Oh, I'm rude, want some weed?" he handed me the joint which he was smoking and probably why he was so enthusiastic and I puffed happily. Brad lit another one.

"These are my friends" and he gestures to the other guys there who all had "alternative" side fringes and we smoking shit. Can't remember any of their names. I nodded hello to them all.

"Want something to drink?" Brad asked me.

"Why not. Better yet, I want to dance." I think the weed was starting to get to me, and alcohol and weed didn't seem like the best idea. I took the joint from Brad and shared it with him. The music was loud and pumping and I was itching to start dancing to the beat.

I saw the back of nick, dancing with some chick as I started to dance with Brad. He wasn't dancing alone. There was something very blonde draped over his shoulders, kissing him. I was so angry.

Brad saw me looking. "Hey, isn't that your next door neighbour?"

"I guess it is." I tried to act nonchalant, when it really infuriated me.

We danced. It was so much fun, and some guy was throwing glow sticks everywhere, so I grabbed one, and started raving, pumping my fist in the air. I could feel time ticking away, but it didn't feel like much time at all. The rave was meant to last all night.

I think it was around 3 that I decided to call it a night. I was still with Brad, but we weren't dancing, just chilling outside in the cooler air of the night. The rave was hot!

"Hey, Brad, thanks for tonight, it was great." I gave him a small hug and kissed him on the cheek, and headed off back inside to find Nick, and get my lift home.

But that was the thing. I couldn't find him anywhere. He had just vanished into thin air. I tried calling his phone, but it was switched off. Fuckwit. Grr…

"Hey brad? Are you still at the rave." I called Brad, to see if I could get a lift home.

"Yeah, I'm just about to leave now. Aren't you on your way home already?" he sounded confused.

"Wait there. At your car. I'm coming." I hung up the phone and rushed to find the car.

I did.

"He fucking left me here!" I said, annoyed.

"Really? That's so dog. I think there's one seat left. Oi, Greg, just get in back. There's no way she's riding in there with Mark and James." He directed the first part of the convo at me, and the second half at this Greg guy. He got out of the front seat with a grumble, and slammed the door as he climbed into the back seat of the car.

We were off after I got into the front seat, and headed back to town. It's funny how one little thing can ruin the whole night. Nick 'casually' ditching me there certainly did indeed.

There was something peaceful about the car ride.

"You awake?" My face was being poked. It was oddly quiet outside my house.

"Huh?" I had fallen asleep, and Brad and I were alone in his car.

"You were asleep," he gentle laughed, as I sat up and rubbed my eyes.

"Thanks for the ride by the way" I unlocked the car door and got out of the car, closed the door and leant on the car, looking towards Nick's house. The light was on.

Then Brad was beside me, giving me a hug goodnight. So I kissed him. He seemed a little surprised, but then he was kissing me back, pressing me into the car, hands wrapped around my back.

After what felt like no time at all, he was the one who pulled back, "It's late. I have to get home. Call you tomorrow?"

He hugged me, and kissed the top of my nose. "Yeah, call me tomorrow. We can hang out?"

"Yeah, actually, its like 3, I'll call you today hey?" he laughed at his joke, and with one final kiss, drove off into he night.

"Wait, so he just blatantly rejected you like that?"

Kaitlin was over at mine making use of the pool with me, and we were sunbaking by the waters edge. I had one hand in the water, the coolness of my hand contrasting with the heat of the afternoon sun.

"Yeah! I practically threw myself at him, and nothing! Just blatant rejection!" she complained, "I think he must be gay…"

I remembered him the night before with the twiggy blonde girl. I didn't think so, "Yeah, that's got to be it."

It kind of made me angry. Did he think he was too good for Kaitlin? Then why would he ignore her attempts to seduce him, as obvious as they were, and go for that blonde from last night? Kaitlin is way better looking, and not a tramp. And another thing: why did he ditch me last night? He was meant to give me a ride home… at least one good thing came out of it…

Time to change the subject.

"I'll ask him, if you like, but anyways, exciting news: guess who I hooked up with last night?"

"Aww, come on, don' t make me guess…?" she threw me a look of daggers.

"OK, fine, it's BRAD!" I said.

She sat up at that, "I knew he liked you!"

I nodded, "he said he'd call me"

"And has he?" she questioned.

"Nope, not yet. Is that a bad thing?" I worried.

"He said he'd call today right? So I'd give it till tomorrow. Guys normally mean 2 days when they say they'll call the next day." She lay back down, looking satisfied.

I sat up and looked down at my phone, willing it to ring. It didn't. Anticlimax much.

Did I really like him? I mean he's a nice guy and all, but yeah, I don't know if I like him. He's just a bit too perfect, ya know? But then again, I don't know him. At all. I'll give him a chance.

A car pulled up in that all too familiar driveway to the house next door. I was angry with him for hurting Kait. I decided I'd do something about it. Right that second! Okay, well, when Kaitlin was gone.

"So, got your eye on anyone at the moment?" I teased.

She surprised me. "Actually, yeah, I do. I don't wanna say anything but, it's just a crush, you know?" Wow. Unfair! I want goss

"Tell me!" I begged.

"Soz babes, not going to happen anytime soon" she said in a definite voice. She meant business. So I knew not to pressure her. She was about to say something else, and then the misfit's theme song was heard. A phone! My phone? Sadly, it was Kait's phone.

"Yeah, coming now. See you in half an hour…" she finished on the phone and hung up, and started to put clothes back on.

She buttoned up her shirt, "Hey, gotta go, I'll see you soon? Tomorrow? I'll give you a call later."

She pulled on her shorts. "Yeah. Let me know lovely. Have fun? Anyway, wherever you're dashing off to, be safe."

She slung her bag over her shoulder, and with a careless wave of her hand, sauntered out of the backyard, less than five minutes after receiving the mysterious phone call. Weird.

No point sunbaking alone. Besides, I think I was starting to burn. I stood up and wrapped my towel around my neck and made my way back into the house, but just as I did so, my phone started buzzing, and the caller ID said Brad. Yay, he had called!

"Hey Quinn, So I was thinking, I know it's a total cliché, but we could go catch a movie tomorrow night?"

"Wow, cut straight to the point, why don't you?" I joked, and leant against the pool table.

"Come on, gimme your answer."

"Ugh, FINE! If I have to…" I trailed off joking.

There was silence for a bit.

"Please tell me you're joking right?" he asked nervously.

"No shit Sherlock!" I exclaimed. Boys were so thick.

"Alright, well I can't talk for long, I've got, my, um, ah, aunt coming over, I'll see you tomorrow, bye" and he hung up after me muttering goodbye as well. Boys! Speaking of boys, I glanced to my right, and saw, through the fence, Nick watering some plants. Kait popped into my head. Dammit!

So I marched right over there and rang his doorbell non-stop until he appeared, looking frustrated, and kind of yelled at me at me, "WHAT!"

"Thanks for leaving me least night. I enjoyed the TEMPORARY PANIC that I might be stranded there with NO PHONE after YOU told ME NOT to BRING IT!" I breathed out, and calmed myself.

"Why did you leave me there? You were meant to have my back, I mean, I did your stupid deal for you and everything!" I glared at him as hard as I could, little knives shooting from my eyes. It's a powerful feeling, being angry. I just wanted to punch him in the head.

"Come in" he held the door open and walked on into the house, leaving to door open. I closed it, hard, and then stomped off into the house after him. Prick.

"I didn't leave you there. You were with Brad." He made to sit down, but thought better of it, and remained standing.

"Because that's a good defence for it. If Brad wasn't there, I would have been left there!"

"If Brad wasn't there, I would have taken you home. You guys looked like you were enjoying each others company, after all." He sounded bitter. Why the hell for.

"Yeah, I did. He's a great guy and I saw you with the blonde chick, which leads me to another point: Why did you reject Kaitlin?" I was more curious than angry about the second point.

He sighed, and leant against the wall behind him, and looked down at the floor, crossing his arms, "That's none of your business."

"Um, yeah, kinda is. She's my best friend, you idiot!" I stepped closer to him, angry. He wasn't getting out of this one!

"No. That was between her and me. Not you, so just stay out of it." He said it quietly and dangerously. Not that I was going to back down.

So I walked right up to him, and punched him in the shoulder. "You can't just do that to people, just walk all over them. She was upset about it and I was there, like the good friend I am, and listened to her cry to me about it. What kind of guy are you to reject someone that way. If I was you I'd-"

Nick had spun me around, and was pressing me against the wall, pinning my shoulders there with his hands.

"I DON'T LIKE HER I-" he yelled at me, stopping himself, looking at me oddly right in the eyes. He all of a sudden let go of me like I was a bad smell. " I'm just, not attracted to her, and she wouldn't take the hint, so I had to be firm. Would you rather me lead her on?"

I thought about it, "Well, no."

"Then I did the right thing. Any other guy would just use her." I had never thought of this before. Maybe he wasn't so bad after all… maybe. And that was a stretch.

"I think you should go now."

And without a word more, I was pushed, pretty much out the door, and onto the street, the door being slammed behind me.

So. What do you guys think of the new chappie? Let me know please and thankyou! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
