Coral woke up and stretched. The previous night, she had endured the most awful, life like dream about waking up in some the bed of some Scottish pirate captain. . . his name was Captain Jonas Edwards? She remembered kissing him or something, but it wasn't good . . . It had scared her. She didn't really remember anything of the dream after that.
Her face brushed the pillow as she rolled over, opening her eyes. She screamed with delight, because she found herself back in her own room. She leapt with joy as she took in her Hugh Jackman as Wolverine posters, her Glee CD collections, her bed, her whole life returned to her. Coral flung herself back into bed, ecstatically happy.
Coral opened her eyes for the first true time. She was back in the 17oo's with Jonas. She punched her pillow angrily, her heart burning with disappointment. Then, she remembered. She had fallen asleep on the floor of some obscure corner of the ship. Coral looked next to her, eyeing a still- sleeping Captain Jonas. She lingered on him for a moment, admiring the way the dimming candle light reflected on his skin.
Maybe, just maybe. . . she could love him. He wasn't bad looking. She sighed. If looks were the only thing that mattered in a relationship . . . But, he had been surprisingly relaxed about the whole thing, she thought. Against her common sense, she decided to stay in bed and go back to sleep. If this was a dream, she should wake up soon.
Her decision not to get up was immediately vetoed when she felt a strong, muscular arm wrap itself around her, pulling her closer to the man beside her. She struggled, but to no avail. The stupid man was stronger than her.
Obviously, staying in bed was a bad idea.
Jonas had woken up. Apparently being too un-awake to recall last night's events, he attempted to kiss Coral. She wasn't fully awake either, and kissed him back before she realized what she was doing.
Here I am, making out with a guy I met last night! As soon as that thought entered her mind, she bit his lip and jumped out of bed, suddenly very awake.
"Lass!" Jonas complained. "I thought you were back to normal now!"
"Normal? My goodness Jonas, I have no idea what normal even is! I make one wish, and some how end up living another life. . . Here I am, Coral Martin, and suddenly my life is whisked away and I have absolutely no idea what is going on anymore-"
"James. Your name was Coral James." Jonas interrupted.
"See? Even my name isn't the same!" Coral moaned. She paced across the cold wooden floor of the cabin. "What is happening?"
"Lass." Coral stopped short after slamming into Jonas. She apologized, brushing a stray piece of hair behind her ear as she did so. "Don't think twice about it my dear." He held her close, tightly, in an effort to calm her down. Her frantic breathing slowed as a peaceful feeling began to emerge from inside her heart. "Shh, lass, I wouldn't worry. Hasn't it crossed your mind that this could be better than your old life?"
Coral nodded. "I suppose. It was a crummy life." Her eyes met his, locking for the very first time. She wanted to look away, but she was captivated. There was depth in his eyes, a depth she had never seen before. There was a whole soft-hearted personality in his eyes. It was like nothing she had ever come across in her old life. Her fear and confusion began to fade away, replaced with warm, calm feelings. She smiled. "Maybe I can trust you after all."
"Do you trust me enough to. . ." He leaned down ever so slowly, his lips brushing against hers softly, sweetly, gently. He let her loosen up before he continued the kiss. Her arms crept up and around his neck, carefully embracing him. He slipped his arms around her waist, tightening his grip as the seconds ticked by. Her lips invite him to keep kissing, a tiny smile revealing itself at the corners.
The beauty and genuine affection of the kiss changed Coral. Not once did she attempt to stop it. When he finally pulled away, she wanted more. She felt the mysterious feelings she had driven away the previous night return to her heart.
Maybe it's how he looks in the candle light, she thought. "Jonas," she whispered. She placed her head back against his chest. She could feel his heart beat beneath his warm skin. The pulse was slow and comforting.
"Yes, my dear?"
"I might find a way to believe you after all." Happiness swelled over her entire body. She didn't know why, nor did she care, but she suddenly felt things had finally taken a very right turn.
A/N: Sorry it took me so long to update this! I'm trying to keep up since it is a "Short&Sweet" story, but I have been swamped with work for college and working on my novel, Weapons of Beautiful Destruction. (If anyone wants to take the time to read that and review it, that would be amazing. I'm trying to make that story as perfect as possible so I really appreciate honest and even/especially critical reviews of that book… I haven't gotten a review in a while for it, and it's kind of breaking my heart, lol.) Plus, I finally wrote the "prequel" from Jonas's point of view. :D For those of you who haven't read it, it's in the collection My First Kiss Went A Little Like This. The chapter is called The Incidental Meeting Of Coral And Jonas. I hope you enjoy it. :D Well, thanks for reading. Your reviews make my day. (: With love,
