Elizabeth sits in homeroom quietly. She has no friends anymore. She wishes someone would talk to her. All she wants is someone to care about her. She is sick of being alone. Sick of the hurt she feels every day.
Four months ago everyone thought she was fine. That there was nothing wrong. She was always with a group of friends. Nobody would have thought that something was wrong. She hid her emotions well and acted happy even better. Nobody had a reason to question it.
Until her parents found out that she was being sexually abused by her teacher. The teacher was the technical director at her school's theater. Her parents made her press charges. The day the teacher was arrested was the day that her friends betrayed her. They all knew it was her right away. They all turned against her, except for one. That one friend, Taylor, was going to be her saving grace. That was until Elizabeth hadn't heard from her friend in two months.
It was about three weeks before school was to start again and she thought everything was turning around that she's was going to be okay. There was going to be a good bye party for her theater director who was leaving her job as director. She was online talking to a friend, Ben, who she made on a teen support site when she received a message from Taylor. Taylor told her that if she couldn't believe she was going to go back to the school. She said that nobody wanted her around that she was just a reminder of why that teacher wasn't teaching there anymore. Taylor told Elizabeth that if she went to the party that nobody would sit next to her or talk to her. She ended the message by telling her that she should be happy that she is finally getting the attention she wanted.
That message tore Elizabeth a part. She told Ben what had just been said to her. He told her that she needed to ignore her that she should go to that party to shove it in the girls face. Ben told her that if they treated her like they said they would he would be online so she could talk to him. She told him she'd think about it.
Later that night Aiden, a guy who used to go to school with her, asked her if she was going to the party. For some reason she told him what Taylor had said to her. Aiden told her that he would sit with her and talk to her. She decided then that she would go.
She went to the party. When the director got there she went around hugging everyone. When she hugged Elizabeth she said to her, "You knew about me leaving didn't you". Elizabeth had been told by the technical director that she was leaving probably six months before. Elizabeth's director asked her if she was okay. When Elizabeth said yes, her director pulled back looked her in the eye and asked if she really was. Elizabeth had never really made a connection with the director. Until that day, she didn't really think the director cared about her like she did to some of the actors.
She managed to survive the party and went home feeling like she could make it through school which started in two days.
She went to school feeling anxious. She knew that it would be hard but that Ben would be online if she needed him.
Ben was the only person she thought of as a friend. She knew that he could be trusted. She trusted him more then she trusted anyone else. She knew that he cared about her. He was probably the best friend she had had.
She survived that day without anyone saying anything to her about what happened. Nobody did say anything until it was published in the local newspaper that there were more charges being added. That day wasn't easy.
A month goes by and school is pretty much the same. She has moments where she is anxious but usually she is numb. She doesn't speak to anyone at school. There isn't anyone that speaks to her. She doesn't really have friends anymore. Aiden still talks to her but she doesn't see him.
