A few days went by and Phil took to Entrioid Chemistry very well. If fact, she finished all the books Gavlin had available and eventually they were arguing over the possible outcomes of certain experiments.

"If you put that in there it will blow up!" Phil yelled, holding Gavlin's wrist to keep him from pouring in the chemical, or base, as the Entrioids call them.

Gavlin jerked his hand away, "No it wont."

"Yes it will, it will react with the coro-corto…the stuff that starts with a c that we put in earlier." She said, she was taking to the ideas well, but she was having a bit of trouble with names.

"Cromptum. And no it wont, you're confusing that with Corotom." Gavlin said and he continued to pour the substance into the pot.

Phil could just hear a telltale sizzling sound, she pulled Gavlin back by the arm and they both started moving back slowly, for some reason thinking that more subtle movement would somehow keep it from exploding until they were a safe distance away.

The sizzling was getting louder and a large bubble was forming at the mouth of the brewing pot. Gavlin tackled Phil to the floor just in time to dodge the scattering of sizzling globs.

The both lay still for a moment then Gavlin looked down at her, "Are you alright?" he asked her.

"Isn't the saving supposed to be my job?" she asked him in return instead of answering the question.

Gavling rolled his eyes, "I'll take that as a yes."

"I expect an apology," Phil said as Gavlin rolled off of her and they sat next to each other on the floor.

"What for?"

"You thought I was being dumb before and you said I was wrong, If you don't apologize then I get to say I told you so."

"Well it looks like I wont be needing to, since you technically did just say 'I told you so'."

"That doesn't count. Apologize."

"Make me."

"I will." She lunged towards him from her spot on the floor, but he was quick to use his magic and he sent wind at her causing her to end up with her back against the wall not too far away. He grinned at her triumphantly, but the grin faded when he saw her grinning right back.

"What?" he asked nervously. He just barely had the word out when she pounced, and as she pounce her form shifted…into a large black panther that took up all the free space they had available.

The panther stood above him, a paw on each arm. He looked up into the shining silver eyes, and while they weren't the usual, unusual blue that he was used to, they held the same intelligence and humor that he saw everyday. The panther grinned down at him and rumbled slightly. Gavlin got the message and splayed his hands out in surrender, "Okay, I give. I'm sorry I doubted you." Phil purred and stepped away from him, "Don't change yet, I want to, uh…inspect you?" he said, unsure of how to phrase it.

She shrugged, which was slightly awkward looking, seeing as how she was on all four paws, and sat down. He walked around her a few times then stopped in front of her. He looked her in the eye for a second and they seemed to be having a silent staring contest, then he blinked, coughed, and looked away, "Can I, uh, pet you?" he asked, his cheeks darkening slightly. Phil was surprised by his question so it took her a few seconds before she nodded.

Gavlin lifted his hand up slowly and placed it on the top of her head. Phil was surprised at how good it felt, and unconsciously leaned into his hand. After a minute he stopped, Phil looked at him disapprovingly and Gavlin started laughing, "Don't look at me like that." He told her, she growled playfully and got bent down to nudge his hand.

Gavlin laughed again and started scratching behind her ear…and she shrunk. "What the hell?" Gavlin exclaimed, he went down on his knees, "Are you okay?" he asked. The Mini panther opened it's eyes, shook its head, then closed its eyes again.

Gavlin held his breath as he waited for Phil to do something, and when the panther-kitten started growing and taking a more human form he let out his breath. "Are you okay?" Gavlin asked. Phil lay still for another minute or so then sat up.

"Yeah. I think I'm okay. How did that happen?"

"I have no idea, I've never heard of Wyre people being able to do that before." They were both silent for a minute not really sure what to say. "You know, you were kind of adorable in Kitten mode."

Phil punched his arm lightly, "Shut up."

"Even in your big panther form you were acting like a kitten."

"I guess I should start trying to figure out how that happened…"

"Yeah. If you could control it, being able to shrink and grow on command could really come in handy… I could try and help you…if you want." He said, blushing slightly.

Phil grinned at him, "I thought you weren't supposed to feel emotion, I'm pretty sure embarrassment is an emotion." Gavlin clenched his jaw and sighed at her, "I pretty sure annoyance is one too."

He sighed again, "It's your fault."

"For being annoying?" she said, laughing, "You're welcome."

"No… I don't know, it just…I was doing so well before I met you. I can't even make a blank face at you."

"Maybe I'm just really good at seeing behind the blank face and you think it's not working…I am kind of awesome like that…maybe its one of my hidden talents. Besides I was like that up until a little over half a moon ago."

"Like what?"

"Emotionless. I wasn't capable of feeling emotions until I…" Phil looked away, blushing slightly.

"Until you what?" Gavlin asked. Phil cleared her throat and refused to look at him, "Until you what?" he pressed.

"Well, there is actually something I haven't told you about being… me. The Hydrodians told me that when I see my soul mate then I would start having emotions, that that's what I get for being part Entrioid. From the humans I got a soul, Fae gave me intelligence, myre gave me strength, Syre gave me speed, Hydrodians gave me my sword, the Wyre gave me my armor, and the Entrioid gave me emotions, but only after I've seen or met my soul mate."

"Am I safe in assuming that Caleb is this soul mate?" Gavlin asked, looking down at his hands.

Phil shook her head, but he didn't see, "No, I thought it might be, because I met him right before all this emotion crap started, but it just didn't feel right."

"Then who is it?" he asked, finally looking up at her.

"Well, I have an idea, but I'm not sure exactly. I mean, I can't remember everything from that sun, so…" she shrugged.

"I have a way to help you remember." He said, he stood up and got one of his gadgets from one of the tables. It looked like a pair of binoculars with a small little petredish looking thing on the top, he also had a vile of something dark blue in his hand. He handed her the binoculars and put some of the blue stuff in the dish. "Put them up to your eyes and think of the strongest memory you have from that sun. I'll say the spell and it should show the whole sun in a very short time."

Phil nodded and put the Binoculars up to her eyes and started thinking about going to see the royal portraits. She heard Gavlin mumbling in another language and soon images and words were being moved around her head, pulling the memory from the recesses of her mind.

Phil came back to consciousness after a minute and she could feel her back leaning against something warm. She opened her eyes and saw that it was Gavlin, kneeling behind her, apparently holding her up. "Hello?" she said, looking back at him, making their faces become closer together.

"Sorry, I forgot that you would lose control over most muscles when this happen, I just kind of dived under you."

"Thanks."

He smiled slightly, "So, did it work? Do you know who it is?"

Phil pulled away and faced him, "Yeah, I'm pretty sure I know who it is now."

Gavlin blinked at her, "Well who is it?"

Phil squinted at him, unsure if she should tell him. Now that she was looking for it, it was obvious that he had been jealous when he had thought that Caleb was her soul mate, which she found utterly adorable.

"You know, I do have a way of reading your mind." He told her, only half joking.

"Really?" she asked.

"Yes."

Being the stubborn person that she is she didn't believe him. "Then do it." She said sticking out her chin in defiance.

His eyebrows lifted, "I was joking about doing it, it's an immense invasion of privacy, but if I have your permission…" he said shrugging. He looked at her for permission, and when she motioned for him to go ahead, he put his hands on her temples. He muttered some of those fancy words again and she felt a sudden invasion in her brain, like she suddenly had two conscious's; she could hear foreign thoughts, most had to do with technique and formulas for chemistry and magic.

The intrusion stopped just as suddenly it had come and Phil realized that her eyes were closed. She opened them to see Gavlin pacing on the other side of the room.

"You never said I was going to be able to read your mind too…"

Gavlin stopped pacing and looked over at her, "You weren't supposed to. I had my shields up…probably has something to do with…" he trailed off, not able to finish his sentence. Phil had the feeling it was going to end with us being soul mates' but she could never really tell when it came to Gavlin.

He went back to pacing and she stayed seated and watched him go back and orth. Eventually she got bored and her legs were staring to fall asleep, so she got up and started straightening the room; she's nervous cleaner.

She turned from cleaning one of the gadget table to find Gavlin standing behind her. She blinked up at him and they had a mini starring contest before Gavlin blinked and continued his pacing. Phil sighed and moved on to the next table. She was scrubbing some of the exploded experiment off the floor when Gavlin stopped pacing.. "Why me?" he seemed to ask nothing in particular, until he turned to Phil, who sat back on her heals and looked up at him.

"I didn't pick you." She said indignantly.

"I know that, it's just…I can't. I'm a mage. I can't."

"I didn't even want to tell you, so… It's not like anything horrible is going to happen to me without you. We could still be friends." She said, standing up.

"You'll marry someone else?" he asked, jaw clenched.

"Probably not. No one I've met so far has had any appeal… besides you of course, then again, you're not too appealing either with the whole no permanence of emotion thing."

"It's just one of the ways of the mage. I can't help it."

"Wait, is it a rule or a 'way'? Did anyone ever tell you you couldn't have permanence, or did you just assume?"

"It's just the way things work. That's how we keep our powers in check."

"You've been emotional with me for a few suns now, and nothing bad has happened."

"None of my emotions have been particularly strong."

"Well, what are some strong emotions?"

"Anger, happiness, love, hate, sadness… etcetera etcetera."

Phil looked at him, trying to think of a way to get him to feel one of those emotions, "Have you ever had a pet?' she asked him. He shook his head and she crossed sadness off the list. She was quiet for a second then, "Boo!" she yelled loudly. He blinked at her, "Alright, I'll admit that was weak." Then something occurred to her. She knew that there was a good chance to cause some kind of emotion, though there was no telling what kind of emotion it would cause.

She studied Gavlin for a second then shook her head. No, she couldn't do that… but now that she had had the thought she couldn't get rid of it. She took a step toward him and he took a step back. She sighed and took another step, and he took another step back. "Stop that, you know I'm faster than you."

"What are you doing?" he asked her as they each took another step.

"I'm going to make you emotional." She said, and they took another step.

"How?" They took another step and he was backed into a table, and there was no way he could make it past her.

"Well, I can't decide…I'm either going to punch you…or kiss you."

"Wouldn't the first one just cause me pain, that's not exactly an emotion."

"Are you saying you prefer the second choice?" she asked, he shook his head and she grinned, "Alright a punch in the face it is!" she said, she swung her fist back, and once he squeezed his eyes shut, waiting for impact she stopped the fist and got up on her tiptoes and leaned forward, connecting their lips.

He flinched at first impact then froze when he realized that it was lips against his mouth not a fist. He stayed like that for only a few second before he moved. She felt pressure on her hips and she thought he was going to push her away but his hands just sort of rested there and she felt his lips move against hers. He wrapped her arms around his neck for better balance and completely forgot her original reason for doing this.

"Ha! I told you they were together!" A male voice yelled and Gavlin and Phil sprang apart.

"I don't know, I think I see first time guilt in their eyes." Dan told Sabin, who was looking smug.

"Who cares, they're adorable together!" A female voice said.

"Kara?" Phil said, "What are you doing up here?"

The red and turquoise haired girl grinned, "I believe I should be asking you the same thing…only in a slightly different context."

Once she was done with her hinting Dan explained for her, "She some how found out that Gavlin was back, and she found it odd that you disappeared right when he came back, and she just wouldn't shut up so I brought her here, to show her that you were safe."

"Obviously you're more than okay." Sabin added, smirking.

Phil glanced at Gavlin and saw that he was looking at Kara with a bit of a glazed look. He took a few steps toward her and put his hands on either side of her head, closed his eyes, and just stood there.

"Phil?" Kara asked nervously, "Is your boyfriend putting a move on me?"

Phil opened her mouth to say something, luckily Dan answered for her, "No. Gavlin has a mild seeing gift. Something in your aura must have set it off."

"Really? That's awesome!" Kara squealed excitedly.

Sabin snorted, "More than ninety percent of these type of visions end up being about bad things." Dan elbowed him in the gut and Sabin added, in a pained voice, "I'm sure this is one of the rare good one though."

"You don't think he's seeing my untimely death do you?" she asked worriedly.

Gavlin took his hands away and opened his eyes. "Dan." He said, and he motioned him over to the other side of the room. Phil strained her ears to hear what they were saying and was surprised when she could hear them clearly.

"What did you see?" Dan asked.

"Do you know Kara well?" Gavlin asked, not answering the question.

"Yeah, we were practically inseparable when we were younger." Dan said, and Phil raised her eyebrows, she hadn't known that, she wondered why Kara never mentioned it. "What did you see?"

"How about now? Do you two see each other a lot?"

"Damn it Gavlin, what did you see?" he yelled, causing Phil to wince.

"I don't know if I shou-,"

"Oh my gods! Phil!" Kara yelled.

Phil winced at how loud it was and looked over at her, "What?" she asked calmly.

"You-You're ears." She said, pointing at her head. Phil lifted up a hand to feel her ears, but they felt normal.

"You know, you might want to start learning to control your reactions to unexpected things…"

Gavlin said as he and Dan approached them. Dan and Phil's eyes bugged as they put the clues together; "Kara's going to be-" Gavlin put his hand over her mouth to stop her from finishing the sentence.

"What were you saying about Phil's ears?" Gavlin asked Kara, keeping his hand over Phil's mouth.

"Sh-she had cat ears…"

Sabin and Dan's eyebrows rose, Phil and Gavlin looked at each other. Gavlin let his hand fall to Phil's neck trying to hide the Wyre mark, unfortunately Sabin saw the movement, "What are you hiding?" He asked Gavlin, taking a step towards them.

"Nothing…" Gavlin answered.

"You never willingly touch people." Sabin said suspiciously, looking at Gavlin's hand on her shoulder.

"You walked in on us kissing… are you saying I wasn't a willing participant." He turned to Phil, "I think you should be offended." Phil just looked up at him, they both knew that Sabin wasn't going to give up.

"Move your hand." Dan said, standing next to his twin. Kara came up beside them, looking more curious than suspicious.

Gavlin slowly slid his hand away, causing Phil to shiver. "Oh my gods! It's a wyre mark! But… you're Entrioid…and human."

"And, apparently, Wyre." Sabin said.

"Don't forget Hydrodian." Dan added, noting the surprised look on Phil's face, "You really aren't that sneaky at getting in the pool." He said in explanation.

"Is there anything else we should know?" Sabin asked.

Phil winced, there really wasn't any point in hiding it anymore, "Myre, Syre, and Fae."

There were collective gasp from the three of them, "That's… so cool!" Kara yelled excitedly, "What are you in animal form?"

"A Panther."

"Like... the legend of The Panther, panther?" Kara asked, Phil nodded, and Kara started bouncing, "That's so cool!" She said, throwing her arms around the other girl. "I'm so glad you're my friend. Oh my gosh!" She turned to Sabin and Dan, who were just standing there in shock. "Isn't it amazing! We standing in the presence of a multicultural legend!"

The room was silent for a long time then suddenly Dan came to life, almost like he had been shocked. "I'm getting buzzed." He said, reaching into his pocket and pulling out his ear bud. "This is Russo." He said, answering the buzz. "Yes, thank you for reminding me. I'll be right there." He took the bud out of his ear, "I have to go meet with the Wyre ambassador, it a peace keeper day."

"Who are you meeting with?" Phil asked.

"I believe this time it's Chieftain Tun and his son Leven. Why?"

Phil smiled, "I know them. I think you should take Sabin with you, he and Leven need to meet. Leven can also read people's minds, and he's learned to control it."

"We don't really…socialize with wyre people." Sabin said looking at her like she's an idiot.

"Then why are you talking to me?" she asked, he looked away, "The Wyre people are very nice people. They are intelligent and kind, and I think it's about time you realized how much better an ally they will be if you treated each other as friends and not hostile business partners. And I think you should talk with Leven, he a cool guy and I think you'd get along really well."

"Yeah, whatever. It won't hurt to try. But he ends up being some pea brained animal I blame you."

"Yeah. Whatever."

Dan and Sabin turned to leave, "Wait, I'll go with you. I need to get back to my job anyway. Such a slacker. I'll see you later Phil!" She called as she closed the door behind them.

"So…Kara's going to marry Dan?" Phil asked.

"I saw Dan and Kara sitting side by side in the thrown room. They even had a purple and red hair daughter."

"Amazing. I think they'll be really good together. They were both so nice to me when I first came here."

"I feel like you're trying to avoid the topic of…us." He stated, looking down at her.

She blinked slowly, "Maybe a little."

"Well, I'm sure it's all Sabin's going to be talking about for a while. He always has taken such pleasure in my misfortune."

"I'm a misfortune?" Phil asked, jokingly.

"You know what I meant. They caught us in a compromising position and it was embarrassing. And it really shouldn't of happened in the first place."

"Why not? Nothing bad happened, and it didn't really seem like anything bad was about to…so I see no reason to, well, not be together. Honestly just the thought of not being together, and you being with anyone else, whether there's no emotion involved or not, makes me want to punch something… firstly the hypothetical girl, secondly, you private bits."

Gavlin cleared his throat and turned away from her a bit, "Yes, well…" He sighed angrily, "I don't want you to be with anyone either, or I might have to tear the guys balls off…so…"

Phil nodded once, "Alright then, that settles it. We're soul mates, and we're going to be permanent fixtures in each other's lives. You no longer have a choice, it has been made, you will either accept it or I'll tear off your bits, stick them in a blender, then sneak them in your food so you have to eat them."

Gavlin blinked, "You're a very violent person." He said. "I like it." He closed the bit of distance there was between them and kissed her softly.

He pulled away and she opened her eye slowly, "I don't think I'll ever get used to that." She said, smiling serenely. She shook her head, "So, you want to try the Interlooper thing again?"

"It's Enteriolp and yes, I would. And this time we're using Cromptum, I think you handed me Corotom last time."

"I did not."

"Yes you did, that's what the whole argument was about before the thing exploded!"
