"Why don't you lay right here? Let me just ease your mind. I'm giving you all my time. We can just tell the world that it doesn't matter what they say, we belong together."

I just stare at him. I never would have thought he would say that of all things to me. I had no idea he felt like that. And what a way to ruin a perfect moment of just hanging out. I thought we could just be normal, but no, he had to fall in love with me. I get up from the bed we were stretched out on.

"We can't do that. It's not that simple. My whole life through, I'm going to keep on loving you. But we can't be together. We don't belong together. I don't feel that magic for you that you feel for me. I love you, but I'm not in love with you, I'm sorry."

I walk away from my best friend, breaking his heart, and in a way my own as well. It will never be the same. I just cost myself my best friend. The only person I could ever talk to. The only person I could ever be myself with.

"No wonder they call you the dragon princess, you're cold to everyone!" he yells at me as I walk out the door.

**2 years later**

Man after man tries to sweep me off my feet, but none succeed. No one understands. I don't deserve love. I never have. That's why I couldn't be with my best friend. He was too good for me. I didn't deserve him. Why can't they all just leave me alone? It would make things so much easier for all of us if they did.

I turn to my assistant, Millie, who is waiting for my answer.

"Tell the mayor I will be attending the charity ball, but without a guest. And inform the seamstress I will be needing a gown for the occasion, oh and Millie, make sure you enjoy your vacation, you deserve it."

I smile at my assistant. Sitting back in my chair, I kick off my heels as she walks out of the room. I get up and walk over to the wooden cabinet in my office, and open it. I turn on the music, blasting my favorite song by Paramore, Misguided Ghosts, and start dancing around and singing to it.

~? Pov~

I open the door to the dragon princess's office, and get the complete opposite of what I'm expecting. There, before me, is an angel of grace. Dancing to Paramore, of all things. Her red hair and fair skin glowing in the dimmed lights. I clear my throat.

"Miss Dramoire. Pardon me for interrupting, but I do believe I had an appointment with you. I'm a tad early I know, but I was hoping..."

"Oh! Of course! Excuse me one moment..." she was blushing red, and obviously was caught by surprise.

This is the infamous 'dragon princess'? She doesn't seem so scary. I think people over estimate her, this little thing in front of me can't possibly be so bad.

"Now, sir, what is it I can do for you? My company doesn't have time to waste, so either get to the point or you can leave. There is no point in wasting either of our time," says the petite red head.

Wow, straight to the point.

"Wow, straight to the point..." I say.

"I don't like to play games, mister..?" she says.

"Lucas, the name is Lucas Hourtleam, Madame," I say.

Wow, she's so serious. Really? Really? Wow. Maybe people are right about her...but then again... I still think people might have her pegged wrong. Maybe she's this cold for a reason. What happened to the rosy cheeked lady dancing to music just moments ago?

"Well, Madame, I'm here because my father's business is in trouble, we need help. Serious help," I say.

~ Lilith Dramoire's pov~

Finally that man left, after I gave him my word that I would do my best to help his family's business. Why do people have to get themselves into predicaments that they can't fix themselves?

"Mr. Hourtleam, your son approached me the other day at my office. He asked me to assist you in your business. Why don't you explain to me yourself what the problem is?" says Ms. Dramoire.

There are murmurs on the other end of the line.

"I see, well I have a proposal, that I think can benefit both our companies. What if we join forces, and host a benefit ball? Your company can handle the marketing, and my company will handle the costs and everything else. This will get your name out there, and hopefully get you more business. What do you say?" she says.

There are more murmurs from the other end of the line.

"Great. I will have my secretary contact you with details." she hangs up the phone.

"Millie, can you gather all the information that the Hourtleams will need for planning the ball? Thanks. That will be all for today. I will see you tomorrow. I have a dinner date with the family."

"Yes Mame," says Millie.

Sometime later.

"Elise. It is high time you marry a man, and let him take over the company so you can raise us some grandchildren." says Mrs. Dramoire.

Oh, no. not this conversation again.

"Mother. you know very well, that I am quite capable of managing the business myself. I do not need a man to do things for me. And as far as grandchildren, if you want them so much why don't you try harping at your favorite daughter. The one that's just so perfect." she glares at her mother.

"Because, Elise, I'm too pretty to get pregnant and fat and have all those stretch marks. You on the other hand. . Well you can handle that," says her sister.

"Ashley!" she says.

"Oh, hush Elise, your sister is right. You are built for child bearing, unlike her. "says Mrs. Dramoire.

This, she thinks to herself,is exactly why I avoid you people as much as possible.

With a glare she say, "If Dad were here, neither of you would be talking like this to me."

"If Daddy were here. He would be here if it wasn't for you, remember?" says Ashley.

That's it. I'm done.

Elise gets up, gathering her things "Don't worry. You won't have to look at me for a long time. I'm far too busy at work to bother with these little social calls. I have to keep Dads business going, because I'm the only one smart enough," with that she walks out of the restraunt, to her car.

When she gets to her car, she breaks down crying.

It's my entire fault. They're right.

TAP TAP TAP.

She looks up, to see a young man at her car window. He makes a motion for her to roll the window down.

"Can I help you?" she asks.

"You don't remember me, do you? Hourtleam. I was in your office last week. Is everything okay?" he says

"I . . . I . . . honestly? No. But I'm not so sure I should talk to you about it." she says.

"Come on; let's go get some coffee or something. You can talk about whatever you want, and I will just listen. Okay? How does that sound?" he says.

"I . . . guess it wouldn't hurt," she says while getting out of her car.

They walk down the street. And find a cozy little coffee shop. They grab a table and wait for someone to come take their order.

Hm, she doesn't seem like the ice queen she was before.

"What can I get you guys?" ask a waitress.

"Can I have a French vanilla cappuccino with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in it, and a snicker doodle cookie? Thanks," says Elise.

"And I will have a pumpkin spice latte with cinnamon," says Hourtleam.
