A love story
It was a dense evening. Seva combed her long black hair and headed for the closet. She picked out her favorite white T-shirt and gray sweats. She headed into bed and pulled out a small journal with a silver lock on it. She opened a small drawer and pulled out a tiny key. She inserted the key into the small slot on the lock and gently opened the small journal. Her bright blue eyes scanned for a blank page. She took out a small pencil and wrote:
Dear Diary,
Today I saw Derek again. He was with none other than that scumbag called Maria. I wanted to talk to him but…. I was too afraid. I can't believe he doesn't even like me! I've known him since kindergarten and here I am in the tenth grade and he still doesn't know who the heck I am. I wish he loved me the way I do him. *sigh*
Sincerely, Seva
She let out a long sigh and out the journal away. "Derek I wish you were here." She whispered. A small tear streaked down her cheek and she fell gently asleep.
Seva walked through the hall in complete silence compared to the jungle around her. She opened her locker and a boy with handsome muscles and curly dirty blonde hair and blue eyes lay his arm against the locker beside her to support him.
"Hi, I'm Derek. Have I met you?" he asked.
Seva stood motionless at her locker. She blushed uncontrollably and replied, "Ummm you should know me. I've know you since Kindergarten! Derek stared at her and lay a muscular hand on her shoulder and gently turned her toward him.
"I think I recognize you." He murmured as he studied her face contently. "I know you! You're that Seva girl right? The girl Maria keeps gossiping about!" he exclaimed. Seva nodded and blushed more. "Hey you want to get some pizza some time?" he asked with half a smile.
Seva could barely contain her excitement but managed to say without faltering, "Sure!"
"Great!" Derek said as he turned around to go to class. Seva watched him walk off before she left for class herself. She couldn't help hopping up and down after he'd gone. She rushed for class realizing she would be late if she stayed at her locker any longer.
After a long day of school Seva returned to her locker to find Derek was standing there with Maria. Before she was seen she ducked around the corner and listened to their conversation. "I can't believe you, Derek!" yelled Maria, near tears. Derek remained silent and pushed her gently off his chest. He remained leaning on the locker beside Seva's and kept a firm, and annoyed expression. Maria stood knees bent and tears streaming down her cheeks. Her beautiful blonde hair was flung in front of her face and she looked truly heartbroken. "Fine! I don't need you!" she yelled barely keeping her voice from quivering. Maria covered her eyes with her hands and she ran down the hall. Seva looked shocked at what Maria did and gathered the courage to round he corner.
"Hi Derek! What was that about?" she asked. Derek turned his head.
"I broke up with her." He explained "Are we still up for pizza tonight?" he asked. Seva nodded happily and opened her locker. "Great! Pick you up at seven!" he announced joyfully. Seva felt her heart jump right out of her chest with happiness. She suppressed a scream of excitement and got ready for the bus ride home.
Seva ran to her closet and grabbed smoke colored skinny jeans and a yellow tank top. She rushed to comb her hair and get her make-up perfect before she grabbed her purse and waited for Derek. She stared longingly out the window for his red corvette to pull up in the driveway. "Please hurry its already seven thirty!" she thought. It began to drizzle by the time he arrived. He walked calmly up to the door and rang the doorbell. Seva ran to the door and opened it with a smile on her face "Hey! Where've you been I've been waiting forever?" She asked.
"Sorry, I had to do something for my mom." He explained. Seva gave a slight nod to show she understood and she followed him to his car. He helped her in and climbed into the drivers seat. As Seva waited for the car to start she felt soft lips press against her cheek. She blushed again and turned to see Derek sat there with one hand on the wheel and himself slightly bent over. He straightened again and started the car in silence. They drove all the way to Pizza Hut without a word and exited the car. Seva met him in front of the car where he grabbed her by the waist. And pulled her closer to him. He lowered his head slowly and half closed his eyes and Seva copied the process. They pressed their lips together in a warm embrace for a long time and then finally stopped. They were both blushing. Derek released one hand from Seva's waist and led her inside. They strode over to the counter and Derek ordered a large cheese and pepperoni pizza for them. As they sat Seva asked "So you like to surf?"
Derek nodded and asked her "What's your favorite hobby?" Seva took a while to decide, she loved horseback riding, drawing, writing stories, and soccer.
"I think drawing is. I bring a sketchbook with me almost everywhere I go in case I see something I might enjoy drawing." She answered. Derek looked very impressed with her decision.
"Do you have it with you?" he asked
"Yeah, want to see it?" she replied. Derek nodded and she handed over a thick notebook with blank paper on it. The paper had a tan color and a sandy texture. He flipped the cover over and peered at her various drawings of anime wolves and horses that seemed to be real.
"These are amazing!" Derek complimented.
"Thanks!" she replied with a large smile. Then Derek found a picture of an elf girl that looked exactly like Seva staring longingly out a window with a slight trace of tears in her eyes.
"Why is she crying?" Derek asked with no trace of his smile left.
"Ummmmm… that was from a long time ago, that was when I felt sad because something happened." Seva explained trying to find the right words. Only half her reply was true. The girl was crying because she longed to be with the person she loved witch was none other than Derek.
"Oh." Derek said simply as he flipped the page to reveal a realistic drawing of a wolf with four pups scrabbling amongst each other to keep up with their mother. Dereks smile returned again. As he kept flipping, he saw more wolves and more horses until he reached sheets of completely blank paper and then the end of the book. "Those were great!" he complimented again. Seva gave a slight nod and the pizza was place on a rock in the middle of the table. Derek thanked the waitress and grabbed a plate. Seva repeated the process and they grabbed two pieces of pizza each.
The date had gone well and they returned home with filled stomach and a greater love in between them than before. Derek got out of the car and helped Seva out. They walked in silence to the front door and stood there. "Tonight was really fun." Derek said as he stared into Seva's hazel eyes. Instinctively they each bent over and planted a kiss on each others lips and pulled away blushing. They did this one more time and this time it lasted longer than any other. They finally parted and Seva entered her home and placed her back against the door smiling wildly and prancing about the house in her joy. Derek placed his back against the door and let out a long breath and stared lovingly at the stars. I love you, Derek and Seva thought.
