I'll always love you

Karri was rushing to get dressed, shoving her legs into her tight pants and pushing her arms through the sleeves of her blouse. She had fallen asleep and was already twenty minutes late. She cursed herself inwardly as she tripped over her pant leg.

As she got her clothes on, she scrambled to the bathroom and did her hair and make up as quickly as possible. She knew she looked like a mess, but had to get going and didn't have enough time to do anything about it.

Karri ran out the house and over to her bright blue Volkswagen bug. She started it up and pulled out of the driveway, forgetting to put on her seat belt as she had too much on her mind and it just didn't seem important.

She zoomed in and out of traffic, trying to get to her destination as quickly as possible. She was forty minutes late now and wasn't even half way there. A red light stopped her in the middle of no where. She tapped her fingers on the steering wheel as she waited impatiently. There was no one around but the light just wouldn't change. Her eyes went from the light to the time. She had to get going, she was so late.

Without taking a look around, Karri pushed on the gas pedal and started to drive. Suddenly her cell phone went off; the familiar ring telling her it was Jamie. Karri fumbled for her phone and answered it. "Jamie! I'm so sorry!"
"You're late." Jamie said in an angry voice.

"Yes, I am. I'm so sorry! I'm almo—"

Karri slammed on the brakes as she tried to avoid the car coming up on her side. The brakes squealed and that was the last thing Jamie heard before the fuzzy sound of nothingness rang in her ears.

"Karri…?" Jamie asked hesitantly though she was fully aware that she wouldn't get an answer. She was in a state of shock. There was no way that had just happened. Jamie tried calling Karri back and did so about six times before finally giving up. Tears had already stained her cheeks. She didn't know what to do.

Jamie finally decided to get into her car and start driving the way that Karri would have taken to get to her house. Surely she would run into Karri, unless…no. Jamie knew that Karri was alright, she just had to be! It was Karri, the toughest girl that Jamie had ever known!

After a little while of driving Jamie saw a horrible accident. One of the cars sent a shiver down her spine as it looked just like Karri's bug. There were no cops, no ambulance, no nothing. Had nobody seen what happened? Was nobody alive…? Jamie gripped the steering wheel tightly. It just couldn't be real.

Jamie soon got out of the car and made her way over to the cars. Karri must just be unconscious, or maybe it wasn't even her car. Jamie's eyes widened at the sight of all of the blood and glass scattered around the area. Her eyes stayed glued to Karri's bug. The windshield was broken and Karri wasn't inside. The tears started up again. Jamie hesitated as she slowly turned her head to look at the other car. She was absolutely horrified.

The lighting was so bright and the air reeked of sanitizers and iodine. Jamie sat, waiting impatiently, her foot tapping the floor and her hands clasped together in her lap. She was staring at the wall across the room, her expression blank.

"Miss Madison?" A nurse asked as she walked into the waiting area.

Jamie perked up as she heard her last name being called. She quickly stood up and made her way over to the nurse. "Yeah? Is everything alright? How's Karri?" She asked hastily, her voice overflowing with fear.

"Miss Madison…" The nurse repeated, her voice was sympathetic and Jamie knew bad news was on its way. "I'm truly sorry to have to tell you this, but…" Jamie started to tear up again, biting her lip. "Karri…didn't make it. I'm so sorry."

Jamie's heart froze at that moment. No, it couldn't be true, they had to be mistaken! There was no way that Karri would go like this. "Let me see her!" Jamie cried out.

"You'll have to wait a while. They have to clean everything up and move her from the ER." Jamie then pushed the nurse out of the way. There was no way she would be waiting any longer. She stormed down the hall, the nurse chasing after her. "Miss Madison! Stop! You can't go in there!"

Jamie didn't stop until she made it to the ER. She pushed open the doors and marched inside, pushing the doctors and nurses out of the way as she went to the bedside. She felt a pang at her heart as she saw the damage done to Karri.

The nurses and doctors decided to leave the room and give her some time to come to terms with what happened. It was inconvenient to them, but they knew it was best.

Karri lay in the hospital bed, lifeless. Jamie reached out and stroked her bloody cheek. "Karri…wake up." She said in a soft voice. "Please wake up..." The room was silent as she waited for something to happen. "Karri! Come on! You have to wake up!" Jamie cried out. She shook the other lightly, but again, nothing happened. "This is all your fault! If you weren't late then none of this would have happened and we'd be having dinner with my parents and having a great time…!" Jamie grabbed her hand. It was freezing. "Oh Karri…why didn't you put on your damn seatbelt?!" Jamie wiped her tears off with her sleeve. "You can't be gone…We were going to spend the rest of our lives together…we were supposed to grow old together…you weren't supposed to go like this! What am I supposed to do now?!"

Jamie was in that room for a while before her parents came to pick her up and take her home. Jamie leaned down and placed a soft kiss on Karri's lips, trying her best to hold her tears back. "Goodbye, Karri…" She whispered in the others ear as she brushed the hair out of her face. "I'll always love you."
