Life in the Shadows

A series of short stories set within the Black Silk universe

After I finished writing the paranormal romance Black Silk I started on the sequel, I'd only written three chapters when I stopped. Why? Well, I needed to know where my hero, Cole, came from. I needed to know who his parents were. I needed to know what made him tick.

So I went back to the drawing board. I don't know how long this will take me or how many stories there will be. Each short story/chapter is a complete story and can be read independently. You can find Black Silk listed under the 'supernatural' category here at FictionPress, but these stories are more historical or historical romance than paranormal.

If you've read Black Silk then you'll know about the world I created. However, if you haven't, here are a few facts about my weres. My main characters are were panthers and are really people who can shift to animal form, that means they live their lives as humans and shift when being a panther would be useful, although sometimes they shift just to have fun. They can live to around seven hundred years or older, and they can teleport to travel distances. Other than that, they are stronger than normal humans and their senses are more acute, but they aren't like Superman. They cannot turn humans by biting them but they can mate with them. In my world, shifters came from magic and originated in North Africa and the Middle East and have gradually migrated around the world.

Many of the short stories that follow are set against real historical situations. All original characters are my invention and belong to me, Jan Gordon.
