The village reeked of death, blood stained the streets causing an uneasy haze that followed the villagers like a rained lined cloud. However, even through the murky haze of death new life sprung forth. Many of Aileen's friends carried out healthy, successful pregnancies. Though an even greater number did not, the scare of the dragons caused many of the potentially new mothers to abort, a deep set instinct of sort telling their bodies that this world was unsafe for their children.
Aileen had not given birth yet and though the medicine woman had told her not to worry, Aileen felt a new worry beginning to grow. Isaiah watched Aileen carefully, his words had become gentle over the past weeks, his touch soft. The path they had begun to walk down together seemed to be weaving them together in an impossible way. Aileen often found herself studying Isaiah's face, not for the boy she, once called her best friend, but for the man she was beginning to love. The two had found each other in a new light, each starting to see each other for the first time.
"Aileen," Isaiah seemed oddly panicked as they lay tangled on the couch. Startled herself Aileen looked around frantically for the danger, but the house was empty spare the two of them.
"What is it Isaiah? Is something wrong?" Aileen asked breathlessly.
"I'm actually surprised to be the one to tell you," he began. "But I think you're going into labor." He motioned to his soaked pant leg and couch cushion. Aileen covered her mouth in horror, launching herself from the couch she began to apologize frantically. Isaiah smiled at her, shaking his head. Taking her hand inside his own he lead her toward a room toward the other side of the house; the birthing room. The room was small and warm; blankets, water, and bedding were spread about casually. The room was windowless, providing a calming affect meant for the beast that would be delivering the infant. At the room of the room a small area was cut out and designed to allow their prideful, or mournful, howls escape to the village. Isaiah closed the door behind them and motioned for Aileen to remove her clothing. He copied her movements, taking both their clothes to a hamper in the far corner.
Aileen felt a sudden pang in her stomach, causing her to double over in pain. Isaiah rubbed her back, his fingers slowly becoming claws as he shifted. Following in suite Aileen shed her human skin for a set of four legs. The pair nipped at each other playfully as Aileen tried to decide where to bed. Isaiah I'm scared. Aileen grew tense as she tried to get comfortable on the bedding she chose. Isaiah nudged her nose laying down beside her head.
I'm scared too Aileen, but there's no turning back. Aileen whimpered softly as the pains grew more intense. What if he didn't make it Isaiah? What if our baby is dead? Isaiah whimpered alongside her, pushing her head into the soft fur of his neck. The pair tried to avoid the thought instead choosing to simply be near one another.
Isaiah It is happening. Aileen barked as pain shot through her once more. Pushing through it she tried to fight down the nauseating feeling of her body releasing the life she had been growing. Isaiah watched carefully as Aileen began to lap the small black slime covered bundle. No bigger than a shoe the tiny thing whimpered suddenly beneath the constant lapping of Aileen's tongue. Isaiah yipped in joy nudging the small bundle towards Aileen's under belly. Aileen jerked slightly as the pup latched on to her nipple, sucking hungrily. Aileen he's alive! He's alive! Isaiah threw back his head to howl, when Aileen barked at him. Isaiah I think there's more. As she spoke her body released another small bundle, this one a mirror image of the first. Aileen lapped the second pup until it cried out, then allowed Isaiah to guide the pup beside the other. As both puppies sucked hungrily, Isaiah watched Aileen's hind end curiously tilting his head every so often. Aileen nipped at his leg, causing him to jump back frightfully. It's over. She giggled nudging the two pups lovingly with her nose. Throwing his head back Isaiah let out a howl that shook the room, the cry was full of pride and love. Aileen followed suite with her own sweet howl, the noise rumbling her chest. The pups let out small cries of their own, ones that would let the village know that the alpha and his mate were blessed with not one, but two of the future generation.
Aileen spent the next few hours nursing her pups, allowing Isaiah to bring her water and small scraps of meat. The two discussed names, Aileen finding humor in Isaiah's desire to pick out the perfect name for his sons. Finally when the pups were asleep the pair of proud parents shifted form. As was expected the pups changed to infants alongside their mother, an odd sort of magic causing them to do so. Shrugging on their clothes, Aileen pulled one of the boys into her arms, while Isaiah took the other. Aileen watched as Isaiah gently brushed his lips across the child's forehead. Moving beside her mate, Aileen leaned into Isaiah, allowing him to kiss her forehead as well.
"Welcome to the world Maddox," Aileen smiled down at the boy in her arms.
"And welcome to the world Liam," Isaiah whispered sweetly to other boy.
