That morning, Belle was setting her bookstore up. The pillows were fluffed, the children's colouring books were spread out, and the plastic chairs were set up. In the adult's section, the couches and armchairs were straightened. Going on around her Chasity was putting books away, and dusting the shelves.
The bell at the door chimed and in walked a man with a baseball cap on. "Hello?"
"Coming." Belle and Chasity spoke at the same time and both looked around the corner.
The man smirked a little bit and smiled at them. "I've got a few boxes of books," he said as someone walked through the door backwards. In his arms were two large boxes. He set them down and disappeared back outside.
"The Author of the Month books are in," Belle commented as she walked forward. Pulling out an exacto-knife and popped the plastic ribbons holding the boxes closed.
"Great, we're ready for them," Chasity answered as she stepped forward, extending her hands for the clipboard. She signed her name and handed the clipboard back to the man.
"Thank you ma'am, there's two more boxes coming in." the delivery man said and left the door as the second man came in and dropped off the last two boxes.
"Thank you!" Chasity and Belle called out and waved.
Grabbing two boxes each, the women brought the books to the front window. Belle placed the book on the pedestal, and hung the name of the author over the book. At the same time, Chasity placed a total of four books before the pedestal, and placed a bristle board display of the different books that the author had written. Once that was done, the pair walked to the front, and filled the two long tables with the remaining books.
At the same time all this was going on, Garreth sat atop the front counter watching the women go about their business. Though it had yet to be written on that magic box that people called a computer, Garreth and his brother Kallen had returned back home to Castle Chaos. Jasper had gotten some information that Garreth had asked him for, but before the Lord had managed to look through the book, Garreth had been summoned back to this world and now sat in the bookstore, bored.
A few more people came into the store, some faceless women that he couldn't be bothered to concentrate on. Garreth moved from the desk as Chasity running up a few books and a piece of homemade jewelry. Garreth moved to the kids selection and dropped down on to, what was it called? Right, a beanbag chair.
This went on for a few more hours until the two women decided to take their lunch breaks. Belle pulled out a pad and pen and started writing; ah there was that familiar pull. "Finally." Garreth groaned softly as he stretched outward.
Back within the library, Garreth sat in front of the fireplace, large leather bound book in his lap. Within the pages of the book were spells, charms and other forms of sorcery. Most of the spells, written upon the pages he wouldn't be able to perform, but the old sage that lived in the tower might be able to do something for him. Garreth continued to flip through the pages, until something caught his attention. "A portal to travel between dimensions?"
Dimensional portals are portals that connect one world to another.
In order to create such a portal you need specific items: five pieces of crystals, two pieces of amethyst and an item from the home world, and an item from the world you wish to create a portal too, and the following words: Porth Agored.
Place the five crystals in a circle, with one piece of amethyst within the center of the circle. Using the item from the adjacent world, to channel your energy. The crystals and the amethyst will react and transport you to the world. The second piece of amethyst must be placed somewhere within the world. This would be the portal points between the two worlds. To go back and forth between worlds you must use the key items, as well as the select words.
"Hm, it seems easy enough," Garreth commented to himself. He looked around a moment, looking at the book a little bit. "I should still speak to the Old Sage. I don't want to splice myself."
Garreth knocked on a old heavy oak door, and behind it the sound of shuffling papers and feet signaled that the Old Sage was coming to the door. A moment later, a loud grunt followed by a long low moan of the oak door moving on its hinges, the Old Sage's face appeared between the doorframe and the door. The Old Sage's eyes were covered in a raggedy brown piece of cloth. His grey hair was stringy and shiny with grease, mixed with his wrinkled ashen skin, the Old Sage looked like he was the walking dead. His horns were black, and broken, making their original shape indiscernible.
"Yes, who's there?" the Old Sage asked, turning his head from side to side, his pointed ears visible through the dreadlocks.
"It is I, Garreth," the demon prince answered. "May I come in, and speak with you?"
"Oh, M'Lord," the Old Sage cried out stepping back from the door to allow Garreth entry. "Of course, come inside. What is it that I can do for you? Its not often you young ones come up to see me."
Garreth smiled softly as he stepped into the room. The room itself looked like a typical study, full of long tables, chairs, couches, and bookshelves lining the walls. Numerous pedestals held large open hard cover books, randomly open to pages. The air was clouded with incents, the smell a mix between sweet and musky.
"I need you're help with a spell," Garreth answered as he moved and sat down in a large leather armchair. The material creaking softly, both from age and Garreth's weight. "How much do you know about Dimensional Portals?"
"I know them very well," the Old Sage answered, sitting down at a chair across from Garreth. "Tis how I came here. You're grandfather befriended me, when I would have died. It was how I managed to find your grandmother for your grandfather."
"So, you'd be able to help me get to my witch's world?"
The Old Sage was quiet a moment, weighing his words carefully. "My prince, it is one thing to travel between the different demonic realms, but that world…" he was quiet a moment, as a gnarled hand rubbed his chin. "There is very little to no magick left in that world. There are a few creatures that are unknown to your witch's people, that still reside there, but for a demon to appear would cause a lot of problems."
Garreth was quiet a moment, watching the old creature before him. Many times Garreth had wondered if the Old Sage was really demon, like his family. Had his grandfather not been killed in the last war with the neighbouring kingdom, Azza McCloud would not have shown this kind of age. But like his father, Garreth didn't question the origins of this man, and just accepted the friendship and the usefulness the Old Sage provided.
"Would it be possible to Glamour myself, to look like her people?" Garreth asked, leaning forward, resting his elbows on his knees and his jaw against his knuckles.
The Old Sage was quiet a moment, thinking once again before he nodded. "Yes, it is possible, since it should be one of the basic skills that any royal demon should know."
"Father doesn't know how too," Garreth countered.
The magical male shook his head, "Your face choose not too learn, but you and your brothers would be able to learn if you so wished."
"Then teach me Old Sage!"
"Patients my prince. It is not something that will happen in a day."
"Then what do you expect me to do?"
The Old Sage said nothing as he stood and walked to a desk that was covered in candle wax. The ashen skinned male rummaged through a drawer, before he pulled out an amulet. "I will enchant this, and you will look like you belong in your witch's world." The Old Sage dropped what looked like a large gold coin, on a gold chain into Garreth's lap.
Garreth stared down at the disk of gold, staring at the odd writing that followed along the edge of the coin. "What does it say?"
"No clue," the Old Sage answered with a shrug as he flipped through one of the open books. "I never got around to memorizing that old language. Definitely older than your grandfather." The Old Sage said nothing for a moment, having grown quiet. "Ah, here we are." He licked his thin dry lips. Garreth wondered who exactly the blind old man was able to read the book. "Okay my prince, put the necklace around your neck."
Garreth did as he was instructed, setting the amulet squarely in the center of his chest. It was a surprisingly light for the size of it. "Is there anyway to make it a little smaller?"
As Garreth asked the question, the disk reacted turning warm to shrink to the size of a smaller gold coin. "That's better."
"Okay m'lord, please stand over there," the Old Sage wave his hand to the center of the study. Garreth stood up and walked to where he was asked to stand, his boots clunking on the floor. When the sound of Garreth's walking spotted, the Old Sage walked towards him mumbling something to himself. Standing within arms reach of Garreth, "okay my prince, stay still." The old man adjusted his sleeves and gathered energy. If Garreth had to do something like this to create the portal, he might be in trouble. "A small warning my lord, there will be a warm feeling and a minor itch, but as long as that amulet stays about your neck, the glamour spell should stay in place. Now…" the Old Sage cleared his throat, before speaking the trigger phrase. "Ffurflen Newid."
Garreth was enveloped in a warmth, reminding him of the hugs he used to get from his mother when he was young. The feeling caused the demon prince to sign contently, and then it faded as fast as it was on him. Garreth blinked and looked around him before looking at the Old Sage and frowned. "I don't feel any different."
"Of course not!" he exclaimed, walking around Garreth trying to find a reflective surface. "You're outward appearance is changed, not your inner body." Finding a polished shield, the Old Sage held it up for Garreth to see.
The demon prince nearly dropped to his knees, seeing the being before him. His horns were gone, his white hair having turned black in colour and his eyes turned this green-yellow colour. Striding towards the aging man before him, Garreth gripped the shield and held it closer to his face. Behind the shield the Old Sage spoke softly, "I believe those people would call that eye colour Hazel."
"Hazel?" Garreth echoed, lowering the shield and stared dumbfounded at the man before him.
The Old Sage shrugged his shoulders, as he walked around his lord and master. A few moments later, he handed a large chest to him. "Here are the crystals that you will need my lord. I'm afraid you'll have to choose the items that will get you back and forth."
