The next morning James wasn't waiting by her locker when she arrived. She was wearing a grey and blue striped tank top tucked into a navy blue skirt. Her hair was pushed back by a headband and there was nobody there to talk to.

She felt slightly disappointed and shook the feeling and put her books away. She met up with Addie and together they walked until Scarlett stopped short.

"What the hell Scar?"Addison said until her eyes locked on the exact spot where Scarlet's eyes were.

It was James, talking to another girl. She wasn't pale, but she wasn't tan. She had the figure of a model. Long legs, very thin (but not sickly looking,) and she had medium-length blonde hair. It was layered and wavy. She was wearing a ruffled tank top with ruffles and skinny jeans that looked as if they were painted on her legs.

"Oh my god." Scarlett said her jaw dropped and after a few minutes Addison dragged her away before anyone saw.

"They were just talking." Addison said. "Wait, why do you care? You guys aren't official."

"I know that, obviously. I don't know, I was always used to having him there. It feels weird not having him by my side. And they weren't talking. They were flirting. She was laughing way too much, he isn't even that funny, and she was all 'oh gosh you're so funny I just have to hug you blahblahblah' Seriously, if anyone ever did that to me I'd puke. I'd puke on their face. Seriously." Scarlett said.

"Well, it looks like he's moving in Scarlett, this is your clean break." Addison said.

"Yep, you're right." Scarlett said with a smile, "This is my break."

"Good." Addie said.

During lunch Scarlett went to eat outside. They have a few benches and tables outside on the side of the school where some kids hang out to get some studying done since it's quiet.

"Hey Scar." A deep voice said.

She was sitting there reading "The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath when the table thudded as someone sat down. It was James.

She looked up and smiled, and then took a bite of her sandwich.

"Are you okay? You didn't even say hi to me in Chemistry today." He said.

"I didn't see you." She mumbled as she kept reading.

"I know I came in late but I was still there, I was at the next lab table." He said.

"Sorry." She said.

"Can I still come over after school?" He asked.

She put down her book and smiled as she looked up, "Of course."

"Awesome." He said.

They continued eating and talking throughout the lunch period as if this morning hadn't ever happened.

Once the final bell rang she went to her locker and he wasn't there. Filled with more disappointment she got her books and began walking down the hallway.

"Hey," James said as he ran up to her. "I'll be there in like ten or fifteen minutes, I have to help Nicole with something really fast." She saw Nicole walk up, the model-like girl from this morning.

"Sure, no problem." Scarlett said and continued walking. Behind her she heart them running and laughing at the same time.
