Dollhouse

Shut the door and strip
Lie face down and steady
Sheets in both hands sweaty
Tensed spine
Ready mind
Tongue in mouth repeating,
"…"

Shut the door and crawl
Smile on lips delighted
Wooden house and doll on bed
"Drink me" bottle
Shrink a little
Play inside till shadows stretch
Reaching for the door
Curling paper walls and curtains
But this house is safest
Not upon my bed
Tucked inside my head

Tongue in mouth repeating
Brittle mind
Broken spine
Sheets in hands encrusted
Slouched on floor;
Eyes unmoving as we stare
At shattered wooden pieces
