FADE IN:

INT. A CONCERT – NIGHT

A crowd of teenagers is cheering, music blaring from speakers onstage. The band is in the middle of a song.

ADAM

I just can't escape this hell inside of me!

ADAM (V.O.)

See that guy on the stage? That's me. My name's Adam. I was your average, everyday kinda guy, just trying to make it through life.

ADAM

Burning on the inside!

ADAM (V.O.)

My friends and I formed this band freshman year, thinking we'd make it big. It was great, at least for a while.

The song fades to an end, and the band leaves to thunderous applause. It stops abruptly when a shot rings out, being replaced by shocked gasps and screams.

ADAM (V.O.)

But I should probably tell you how I got to this point. Well, as I said, it started in high school.

CUT TO:

INT. A MESSY BEDROOM – 8:00 AM

The alarm clock buzzes. A pale hand snakes out from under the covers, presses the "Snooze" button, then slips back out of sight. A few minutes later a voice calls from downstairs.

MARIA (O.S.)

Adam, time to wake up!

Adam groans, pulling the blankets closer over his head.

ADAM

Mom, it's Saturday!

MARIA (O.S.)

I don't care; you are not going to be late again!

Adam groans again, pulling the blankets off. He sits up, running his hands through his hair. He looks as though he didn't get much sleep the night before.

ADAM

Okay, mom, I'm up!

MARIA (O.S.)

Good. Now, hurry up and get ready; we have to leave soon!

Sighing, Adam gets to his feet. He is dressed in nothing more than a pair of white undershorts. He pulls on some black jeans from the floor, and does the same with a red t-shirt. He exits the room without looking back. When he gets downstairs, his mother cups his face in her hands. She is smiling excitedly.

MARIA

Ah, there's my handsome boy!

ADAM

*Groans* Yeah, hey mom.

His mother laughs, then realizes something. She pulls away, no longer smiling.

MARIA

You've grown up so fast…I can barely believe it.

He shrugs.

ADAM

No one stays a kid forever, and I'm no exception.

He looks around.

ADAM

Where's dad?

He looks back at his mom, only to find that she's gone.

ADAM

Mom?

He waits a moment, then heads out the door, pausing to put on his sunglasses. He climbs in his car, speeding off down the road. The word 'Revenge' appears on screen, written in blood.

CUT TO:

A PARK

Adam parks his car in an empty space, gets out, and opens the trunk. He pulls out a black guitar case, hiking the strap over his right shoulder. He locks the car, dashing off to a large stage set up a few yards away. A boy looks up, waving at him.

JASON

Adam; 'bout time, man!

Adam slows to a walk, then stops a few feet from him.

ADAM

Sorry Jas, stayed up too late last night!

Jason rolls his eyes and sighs, then suddenly looks disgusted. He holds a hand to his nose.

JASON

Ugh, what reeks?

He looks at Adam.

ADAM

What?

JASON

Something here stinks, and I know it ain't me.

Adam shrugs, hands in his pockets.

ADAM

I forgot to shower this morning, so what?

JASON

So what? Dude, it smells like something died on you!

Adam sniffs at his sleeve. His face twists into a mask of disgust. Then he shrugs.

ADAM

Well, too late to worry about it now.

Jason rolls his eyes, turning and walking back to the stage. Adam starts to follow, then hears something odd. He looks up, seeing a strange shadow drift over the sun. A hand slowly rises to his neck, rubbing a small scar on the left side. In a moment it fades, and he snaps from his trance. He lowers his head to see the rest of his band warming up on the stage, and walks quickly to join them.

ADAM

You guys ready?

He kneels, plugging his guitar into an amp. Kyle is busy tuning his bass.

KYLE

Give me a sec…

He strums a chord, then starts playing the song. Jason starts in on his keyboard, but Adam stops them.

ADAM

Whoa, whoa, hold it guys. Where's Alex?

KYLE

I have no idea…

He looks back to the drum set, seeing no one.

KYLE

He should have been here.

Adam rolls his eyes, and is about to call him when his cell phone rings. He answers; looking shocked when he sees the number show up on the screen.

ADAM

Hello…what?

His jaw drops, then quickly closes. He listens a minute, then slowly nods.

ADAM

I'll be right there.

He hangs up, shoving the phone in his back pocket. He turns to his friends, taking off his guitar and leaning it against an amp.

ADAM

I gotta go…something happened at home.

KYLE

But what about Alex?

Adam hops off the stage, walking backwards while he speaks.

ADAM

You guys are gonna have to find him.

He turns, dashing off.

ADAM

But I'll be back later; I promise!

In a few seconds he disappears, with Kyle and Jason still looking on.

CUT TO:

ADAM'S CAR

Adam rushes into his car, almost forgetting to put on his seatbelt. He pushes a button next to the steering wheel, starting the engine. He backs out quickly, then rushes from the parking lot. His cell phone rings again. He pulls it out, putting it to his ear.

ADAM

I'm on my way. What's the issue?

MARISSA

(OVER PHONE)

You'll be told when you arrive. The boss says it's important you hurry.

He glances at the clock on the dashboard.

ADAM

I'll be there in about five minutes. Is there anything else I should know?

MARISSA

(OVER PHONE)

Negative.

ADAM

All right.

The line clicks off. Adam pulls up to a white building and shuts off the car. He climbs out and stares at the sky, partially shielding his face from the sun. He suddenly looks uneasy, but hurries through the front door. He flashes a badge to the guard, who lets him pass without a word. A young woman then rushes up to him. She has a thick file in her hands.

MARISSA

Sir! Sir, thank goodness you're here!

ADAM

Marissa; what's happened?

MARISSA

We've had an increase of activity; people have started to die!

He takes the file from her, looking through it as they walk. He pauses every few pages, eyes widening.

ADAM

Why wasn't I informed sooner?

They come to a door, pausing outside it.

MARISSA

Because…um…well…

The door opens to reveal a large man in a dark suit. He is Adam's father, and head of their agency.

TONY

-Because your mother would have thrown a fit.

Adam chuckles, shaking his head.

ADAM

Mom doesn't even know about this, so how could she have thrown a fit?

TONY

She would have been too concerned, and would have started to ask questions.

Adam nods, but also rolls his eyes.

ADAM

Then I never would have gotten out here.

He turns his attention back to the file in his hands. One page in particular has caught his eye. It has an image of a young boy, one said to have vanished months earlier.

ADAM

You think his case is connected?

MARISSA

His body was actually found several days ago, but just this morning he was seen walking through his neighborhood, as though searching for something.

ADAM

So what you're saying is…he was resurrected?

She nods.

MARISSA

We've had similar cases showing up all over the country, but so far there've been no helpful leads.

He nods, snapping the file shut.

ADAM

And now you want me to find out what's going on, and put a stop to it.

He looks around, seeing their worried expressions.

TONY

Son, don't you remember what happened last time you were sent out?

Adam scoffs, but again rubs at the left side of his neck. The scar is suddenly more visible.

ADAM

It wasn't that big a deal. Besides, I can make it work to our advantage.

They still look uneasy.

ADAM

There's nothing wrong with me, all right!

He turns, walking out with his hands shoved in his pockets. He pauses on the steps, staring back up at the sky. The only things to be seen are clouds and the sun.

ADAM (V.O.)

Was I seeing things?

Again his hand strays to his neck.

ADAM (V.O.)

It didn't happen that long ago, but could they really have found me that quickly?

A buzzing in his pocket gets his attention. He pulls out his phone and puts it to his ear.

ADAM

Hello?

A harsh laugh echoes through.

ADAM

Who is this?

The laugh continues briefly, then is replaced by a raspy voice.

SCAR

(OVER PHONE)

You thought you could escape from us?

Adam scowls, fingers curling at his side.

ADAM

I thought you'd fallen to hell.

SCAR

(OVER PHONE)

*Chuckles* You've already become one of us; soon you will be unable to resist.

ADAM

Fuck you.

He slams the phone shut, shoving it back in his pocket. In a few seconds his eyes become locked on his car.

ADAM

What the hell?

There is a large dent in the hood, and the windshield is shattered. He moves closer, careful to avoid the broken glass that litters the ground, gazing in to see the body of a young boy. He screams.

FADE OUT

FADE IN

INT - A DESERTED CAVE

A group of teens is sitting around a small fire, laughing and drinking. The only one standing suddenly tosses his empty bottle at the wall. It hits, shattering.

SCAR

He still thinks he can resist, but it won't be long now.

A girl laughs, tossing her head.

DUSK

Humans are such fools, aren't they?

Scar repeats her action, then kneels beside her. He puts his hand on her chin, moving close as he speaks.

SCAR

Indeed, my dear, but remember…there are some who wish to learn.

Dusk looks away.

DUSK

Ha, they can never learn.

She turns back.

DUSK

They're too different from us.

He laughs again, rising to his feet.

SCAR

True, but who's to say that they all are inferior?

He moves to the mouth of their cave, gazing outside.

SCAR

We must be open-minded…if we are to succeed.

The youngest speaks up, sounding almost nervous.

SANGRE

But they are no match for us. They barely know of our existence.

His sister turns to him.

LUNA

They created us, and now they are frightened of us. We will not be able to live in peace until they are destroyed.

SCAR

Indeed.

He slowly turns, facing the group.

SCAR

But as I said: we must be open-minded if we are to succeed.

The others look at him, then return to staring into the fire. An image of Adam's past quickly flashes through the flames, then vanishes.

DUSK (V.O.)

Oh, Adam...

She lowers her head, sobbing silently into her hands.

The scene fades out.

FADE IN

The scene is an aerial shot of Adam's car. The camera quickly zooms in on Adam, who now has a bandage wrapped around his right hand. He watches, unable to speak, as the child's body is pulled from his windshield.

ADAM (V.O.)

What it must be like, to suffer death more than once.

He turns away when he feels a tear drip from his eye. Marissa comes up and places a hand on his shoulder.

MARISSA

You don't normally scream.

He turns to her, looking shameful, saying nothing. She turns and looks at the scene around his car.

MARISSA

Though I can't say I blame you. A scene like that would shock anybody.

Adam smiles, faintly, then suddenly doubles over, groaning horribly. Marissa starts to go to him, then freezes.

SCAR (V.O.)

Do not interfere.

She is forced to watch, as his convulsions grow worse, as he collapses onto his stomach, still uttering pained moans. She steps away as he begins coughing up blood.

MARISSA

Adam…

The spell ends a few minutes later. Breathing harshly, Adam staggers to his feet, still clutching his stomach. He looks down to see his hands lined with blood.

MARISSA

What…was that?

He shakes his head, looking up toward the sky. To him, the sun appears red.

ADAM

You don't want to know…

FADE OUT

The scene fades in to a shot of Adam lying on the ground. A pool of blood halos his chest; he is surrounded by red and blue flashing lights and people. The people are chatting nervously.

GIRL #1

Where did it come from?

GIRL #2

I don't know…

A third girl is standing near the edge, hands clasped at her chest. Tears are leaking from her eyes.

DUSK (V.O.)

Why did they do it? What did he ever do to them?

She turns away, hiding her face in her hands as she runs into the night. A few seconds later officers and EMTs shove through the crowd.

OFFICER #1

Everybody back up, back up!

Adam's parents move from the edge of the crowd. His mother is hysterical.

MARIA

Adam! My baby!

She runs to his side as he's lifted onto the gurney, grasping his cold, limp hand.

MARIA

Oh, my baby!

His father only looks on, unsure of what to do. He then runs a hand slowly over his face.

TONY (V.O.)

What have I done? My only child…

They watch as their son is escorted into the waiting ambulance, tears running down both of their faces. In a few minutes Maria falls to her knees, hair falling over her shoulders as she sobs into her hands.

MARIA

Adam…my baby…

Tony watches the lights as they fade into the distance; letting his hands fall limply to his sides. He kneels down by his wife, grasping her shoulders.

TONY

Come on, Maria…

He pauses, bringing them both to their feet, still holding her.

TONY

Let's go see him…

Maria nods, still sobbing. She follows her husband to their car, whispering words no one can hear. The camera stays on a girl they move past. She is standing stiffly, gaze locked on the distance.

MARISSA (V.O.)

Adam, what have they done to you?

She sighs, lowering her head, moving toward Dusk. The dark-haired girl is sitting in the open trunk of her car, head resting on her knees.

MARISSA

Are you okay?

Dusk lifts her head.

DUSK

What do you want?

Marissa smiles, sitting beside her.

MARISSA

I want to make sure you're all right. Are you?

Dusk sniffles, whipping her eyes.

DUSK

T-They never accepted him…I-I was the only one who…

She breaks down again, burying her face back in her arms. Marissa hesitates, then touches her back.

MARISSA

I know it's hard, but don't worry. He'll survive.

Dusk's head comes up sharply.

DUSK

How do you know?

MARISSA

Because I know who he is, I know what Scar and the others did to him.

Dusk wipes her eyes, beginning to smile.

DUSK

Scar wanted to have inside information. He wanted to know where the agents would be, so he could be in control.

Marissa waits a moment, taking her hand from Dusk's back and climbing back onto the street.

MARISSA

I think I know just what to do…
