Max

December 24, 2002

Max was seating quietly at the head of the Aldridge table.

She watched as the maids rushed around the dining room, preparing a huge Christmas dinner for the only Aldridge present at the mansion.

Ever since she woke up that morning, she noticed that the attitude of everyone around the house had changed slightly; they were nicer to her that day. Not that they weren't on a daily basis, but this day, they weren't simply polite but they actually treated her as if she weren't the daughter of their boss.

She also noticed the pitying look they threw her whenever they thought she wasn't looking.

Max hated it.

She knew what was going to happen again tonight, how could she not? It happens every Christmas.

Her mom would be at another Christmas dinner at one of her friend's houses. Her dad would call to greet her Merry Christmas and would apologize that he couldn't again make it this year. And she would have to eat Christmas dinner by herself, under the pitying looks of all the help.

And when 8 o'clock came, and dinner was ready, her knowledge didn't disappoint.

Author's Note: Hey look! I updated! I apologize for not updating sooner, I had a bad case of writer's block and I got so caught up with the Christmas stuffs!
