Chapter 1
NORMAL POV.
North Mellings stopped at the doors of Pillar High School with a small frown on his face. He knew that once he took a step inside, Helen Cades would be all over him. It's not that he hated her, but she was so clingy and it got annoying. He didn't like the idea of her trying to be close to him, even if she was pretty. Taking a deep breath, he decided that it was better to be attacked by Helen than to be late for his first period class. North opened the doors and walked inside, prepared to be knocked over by Helen. Sure enough, she jumped onto him out of nowhere as he was walking down the hallway.
"Northy! I've missed you so much!" Helen cried, making sure that he saw her supposedly "cute" pout. He just nodded and continued walking with her clinging to his arm. After a moment of silence, Helen decided to break the news. "There's a new girl in school."
North just gave her a questioning look. "And?"
She pouted. "Northy, you don't understand. She's a weirdo, a creep! She has white hair like a granny! And she's wearing these stupid glasses too-"
"Why do I need to know this?"
"Because," she huffed, obviously upset that he interrupted her. "you might run into her and I don't want her to change you! She'll scar you, Northy! I don't want that. I just want your safety."
He rolled his eyes at her dramatic tone. "I doubt she'll change or scar me. I'm going to be fine, just chill."
She gave him a cold stare before letting go of his arm. "Fine, just be safe alright? I swear she's e-"
"Yeah yeah, I get it." She looked at him once more, and walked off to her first period class. He did the same. Upon reaching his destination within seconds, he walked inside and stood there with a thoughtful look on his face.
What person has white hair? Maybe she was just pulling my leg or something. She likes to do that...
As North was thinking silently to himself, Jace Hanselly came up behind him and pulled some of his hair. A loud grunt came from the figure in front of Jace. "Go to your seat!" he whispered. "Class started 5 minutes ago!" North's eyes widened, and he turned around swiftly, almost knocking into Jace.
He nodded at Jace who was seated in a matter of seconds while the teacher was busy writing something on the board. Walking to his seat, he passed by Jenny Poll, his old middle school friend. He noticed that she had grown taller since the last time he actually studied her. Instead of being 5'2, she actually grew to 5'4. He mentally applauded her for growing 2 inches since she had been so short the last few years.
He sat down in his seat, and started doodling on his paper as usual.
. . .
LUNA'S POV.
I had come to the school 2 hours early, and now I've been here a total of 4 hours, 27 minutes, and 31 seconds. Apparently they needed more information on me or something, so they called me and asked me to come in early. They hadn't seen me before, so you can imagine that it was scary to them to see someone like me. And, keeping to their "schedule", they asked me questions about everything. I've been asked questions about my hair and eye color too. You see, I'm not.. normal.
I have white hair, never dyed before. It's literally stark white. It doesn't help that my eyes are different colors too. My left eye is red, and my right eye is silver. I don't know how I became this way, I can't remember anything before my 10th birthday. I can't remember who my parents are/were, and I can't remember if I had any siblings either. It's sort of scary, to say the least.
After a long period of asking questions and trying to fit me into class schedules, they finally decided to put me in Mr. Fratchet's science class for first period. I hope I wasn't in a class with that girl who had a fake tan. She had come to school early to meet up with her "friends" and when she saw me, she screamed like I had been a spider or something. I know I don't look very nice, but Jesus Christ! No need to scream at me like I'm a spider. Seriously.
One of the secretarys that I haven't seen before came in the room. When she looked at me, she looked a bit taken back but gave me a small smile and said, "Follow me, honey. You're first class is Mr. Fratchet's science class."
I nodded, put my glasses on, and stood up. This will be fun...
. . .
NORTH'S POV.
I was in the middle of a doodle when the door was slowly opened. Everyone looked at Mrs. Bravle, our secretary, as she walked in. Behind her came a white haired girl. My eyes widened. Holy Jesus, Helen wasn't lying! For once!
She was wearing a black hoodie and black skinny jeans. I couldn't see her shoes because there was a (stupid) desk in the way. And, as Helen said, she was wearing glasses. The cool kind of glasses, as if she's trying to be cool or something. She looked like a cool person wannabe. Thankfully, the teacher dealt with it.
Mr. Fratchet looked at her and said, "Miss, if you don't need glasses, then I advise you not wear them in my class."
She gave him a small look before nodding and slowly took off her glasses. She didn't look at anyone, just the floor. The whole room gasped and started whispering like in the shows. I looked at Jace, and he looked at me. We were both confused.
Mr. Fratchet just stared like she was an alien or something. "Uh, you can go sit behind North..." He said, pointing at me.
Oh great, thanks Mr. Jerk. I thought as she walked down the isle toward the empty desk behind me. When she looked at me, she didn't look at me. More like through me. It really gave me the chills. I avoided eye contact with her as much as possible, but I couldn't help but look behind me every so often to see if she was watching me. Luckily for me, she wasn't. All she was doing was doodling. And her doodling sucked, no offense to her or anything.
She was drawing stick figures and she was in what, 11th grade? Wow. That's all I could say. Just wow.
The bell finally rang after what seemed like forever! I threw my papers in my bag and bolted over to Jace, who was about the leave. He greeted me and, looking back at the new girl who was just sitting there doing nothing, I left the room.
I couldn't stop thinking about her though. It's not like I was in love with her or anything, but she was so weird. Even though her eyes creeped me out, they had a lost stare in them as if she was searching for something in everything she looked at. What really got me was her doodling. Yeah, I said they sucked because they did but it was sort of.. sad. She drew 3 stick figures and labeled them all. At least I know her name now.
Mom, Dad, Luna.
