CHAPTER 14

The day came for us to return to school after Thanksgiving and when I woke up I instantly felt off. I looked over at my clock. It was blank. Crap! Quickly, I got up to check the outlet. The plug was still in so I checked the lights. Off, I thought. My phone was still on and I had forty five minutes to get ready for school. So I grabbed some clothes and ran across the hall to the bathroom.

"You're late," I heard Anzio yell behind me.

"Thank you Captain Obvious," I said turning around sharply. "Did you know that the power was out?"

"Yeah," he answered casually. "The whole street is out."

"Then why didn't you wake me up doofus," I asked throwing my shirt at him.

He laughed and asked, "Why didn't you set a backup alarm on your phone?"

"What if my phone had died? Do you know how long the power's been out? Do you, Anzio? Do you?" I interrogated.

"Touché, Logan. Touché," he nodded and then threw my shirt back. "Go shower."

"Man, I hate assemblies," Alissa stated as we headed into the school auditorium. The auditorium wasn't packed which I was glad of. I wasn't in the mood to deal with a bunch of people today. Thankfully, it was just us seniors.

"Do you hate assemblies, or do you just hate being around a bunch of people in a crowded room," Madison asked as we found a seat.

"Both," Alissa answered slumping in her chair and throwing her head back, her eyes fixing on the ceiling.

"What are we looking at," Nick asked Alissa, mimicking her position.

"Our time being wasted by assemblies," Alissa replied.

"It looks pretty boring," he said. "Can we stare at each other instead?"

"That's a great idea," she exclaimed and they began to stare lovingly at each other.

"The heck," Madison exclaimed.

"I feel slightly uncomfortable by this," I stated. Alissa giggled and Nick smiled brightly. Suddenly, feedback was heard from the stage and silence stilled the auditorium. Everyone's eyes darted toward the stage. The principle stood their clearing his throat and straightening his tie.

"Now that I've got your attention," He said scanning the audience. "Let's talk about some senior events shall we?"

"And the crowd gets bored," Nick said causing all of us around him to laugh.

The principal glared at the crowd and cleared his throat. "As you all know we have graced your class with two senior trips. One senior trip will be held in December at our traditional spot at the winter resort and the other will be held at the place you choose." He paused and took a deep breath. I could tell he was enjoying our silence. "Now the teachers will pass around a packet explaining everything you need to know about this trip. Also, this packet will help determine who your roommate will be."

As he spoke the teachers shuffled over to the aisles to pass out the packets.

"Couldn't they have given this to our homeroom teachers to pass out," Alissa complained as she received her packet and passed the rest along.

"Hey," Madison answered. "If it's an excuse to get out of class that's good enough for me."

"I'm surprised you're still passing class," Nick teased.

"Shutup," she folded her arms.

The packet that they gave us was very thick. I flipped through it and noticed that it was filled with more don'ts than do's. It also had a personality quiz and a room temperature segment. What the heck, we aren't in college yet. I closed the packet and rolled it up as we were dismissed.

"Why in the freak do we have to take a freakin personality quiz? This freakin sucks," Madison exclaimed, clenching her head as we sat in my room.

"How many times are you going to say 'freakin'," I asked laughing at her.

"Until I freakin finish this freakin quiz," she answered and scribbled profusely onto the paper. "I hope I get roomed with someone that I like. I don't know why we can't just choose our own roommates."

"We can," Alissa answered. "It's on the last page. The only thing is, is that we can't room with someone we aren't compatible with."

"Well what if I think we're compatible," Madison exclaimed with frustration.

"I doubt that would matter," We heard a voice say outside my opened door. I looked up and saw Anzio standing at the door in a black muscle shirt with his arms folded. He looked tired.

"Why do you say that," I asked folding my arms in response.

"Because, this is high school so they do whatever they want and they usually get away with it. Plus, just because you think you're compatible with someone doesn't mean that you are right for each other. As roommates of course," he answered matter-of-factly with a shrug.

"They better room me with someone I can tolerate," Madison said.

"Somebody should take heed to those words," Alissa said cryptically.

Anzio tilted his head and sent her a confused expression. "Who me?" he asked.

"Nope, they know who they are," Alissa stated while answering the questions in the packet.

"What," I asked out loud a little confused. "You're not making any sense." But deep down inside I knew that her comment probably had something to do with Drake and I. We're pretty compatible so I told myself, Hey we'll work out and he'll take my mind off of Anzio, but apparently that didn't work since I see Anzio every day at home and when he's with that trick Anna. I don't know why it bothered me so much. I didn't want him anymore anyway. He caused me pain so I shouldn't care about him dating my enemy or anyone period. But I did. Like an idiot I cared. And I needed to stop.

"You'll figure it out if you haven't already," Anzio replied with another shrug. He stood at the door for a bit talking to Alyssa and Madison and I noticed how tense he was and I could tell that he didn't want to be too friendly with us. I remembered that he would get like that every time something stressed him out or weighed heavily upon his mind. He never liked to talk about his problems because he felt like a burden to everyone around him. Something in me wanted to ask him what was wrong just like I used to in the old days. He used to open up to me, at least after he cooled down. But I knew that I shouldn't ask him. I'm not even supposed to care anymore. Why in the freak do I care, I thought, angry with myself. I shook the feelings off of me and I resumed filling out the roommate form.
