11Hey! this is my 1st proper story on fictionpress (I normaly write on fanficton) so its probably not very good! and I was just writing it when I had time so don't expect very much! I got the idea for this from a few songs and a story i read ages ago!

I'm Ellie Connolly and I'm just an ordinary girl. Good looking, I have loads of friends, I'm one of the most popular girls in my school and I'm always getting invited to parties. But there's one I don't want to go to. Tonight one of my best friends, Callum, is having a party in his house for some of his closest friends, and that includes me and Danny Malvern.
Danny has been my best friend since we were both two years old. We do everything together and tell each other everything. Except I haven't told him one thing, something very important. I'm in love with him and probably have been for a while just without realising until recently. But now it is too late to tell him. Tonight I would have to go to Callum's party and see Danny with his new girlfriend Bella. Yeah, I definatly don't want to go to this party.
So far I haven't told anyone that I like Danny and wasn't planning on doing so anytime soon. I know if I tell one of my friends, the entire population of the world will have probably found out my secret in less than a minute.
I change into my skinny jeans and a tight, relatively low cut tank top and slip on an old pair of converse. Most of the girls will probably be wearing dresses and high heels but I'm not like most girls, I like the casual look more. I grab my jacket and keys and head towards Callum's house. He has a really big house and huge garden to go with it. Callum is one of my best mates and let's face it, is one of the most attractive boys I know. But he's nothing compared to Danny.
Danny's the guy every girl wants, gorgeous body, a dazzling smile and a great personality. He can't go anywhere without every girl staring at him. He gets asked out all the time but for some reason, he turns most them down, says he to busy to have a girlfriend. Well something obviously changed because now he has Bella.
When I get there, I bang on the door and Callum finally answers after about a minute.
"Oh hey Ellie! Sorry I couldn't really hear over the music, come on in" He smiles at me as I walk through the door.
We go into the big kitchen where everybody seems to be standing, drinking or dancing. Its quiet a small party compared to most others, but this was just for our closest friends. I smile at some of my best friends but my eyes go straight to Danny. He has his back towards me but I still know it's him. He's leaning on one of the worktops next to a girl I presume is Bella. I wince at how close they are. One of his hands is resting on her waist and I can't help thinking that that should be me not her. It should be me that he was that close to, so close I could feel his warm breath washing over my skin. Not her. It should be me that he kisses. But it's not. I feel myself blushing, my heart beating quicker and my breathing getting faster. Stop it Ellie. Don't let him or anyone else know how you feel. No. you can't. I quickly manage to calm my breathing down so no one notices.
"Heyyyyyy Ellie!" My other best friend Sasha runs up to me and wraps her arms tightly around me whilst jumping up and down.
"Hey Sash" I smile back at her.
"Are you ok? You face is all red"
"It's just a bit hot in here," I lie and sigh in relief as she nods and walks over to speak to someone else. Was I really blushing that much? I guess that's just what he does to me.
I walk over to the table where there are loads of different drinks. I take a can of coke, not wanting to start drinking alcohol too soon, and open it slowly so it doesn't explode all over me. Then I go and talk to a group of my friends for a while.
"Hi Ellie, have you met Bella yet? She's really nice!" Frankie asks.
"She isn't that bad lookin either," Sam, who's standing next to me, says. Me and Frankie playfully smack him in the chest.
"Owww! That hurt!" We all laugh at him. "I was just saying... lucky Danny!" he says with a wink as he walks away to talk to some other people. I scowl at his back and thankfully no one else sees me do it.
"I'm going to go and talk to them, see you guys later'" They start up another conversation as I walk a way, probably not even hearing what I said over the really loud music.
As I get closer to Danny and Bella I realise I can't do this. How can I talk to the guy I'm in love with and the girl he's going out with? Come on Ellie, you can do this. You're going to have to say something sometime. I take a deep breath and walk up to them.
"Hi Danny" he looks up as soon as he hears my voice.
"Ellie!" He wraps me into a tight hug. He normally hugs me all the time, but now, his touch sends shivers up my spine. I don't want him to let go but he does, all too quickly.
"Ellie, this is Bella, Bella this is my best friend Ellie"
"Hi Ellie, it's nice to meet you. Danny talks about you all the time," She says in a happy tone.
Wait. What? Danny talks about me all the time? Maybe he does like me. No. He has a girlfriend and she's standing right there you idiot.
"Does he now?" I direct a smirk at him and he looks away in embarrassment, muttering something like 'not all the time'. I can't help but laugh a bit at him. I see what Sam was talking about before, Bella is really pretty. Her brown hair is in a high ponytail and she has a baby pink, strapless dress on that flares out a little at the waist and ends above her knees. She kinda looks like she could be quite a bitchy girl but seemed nice enough when I talked to her.
"Hey guys! Come and check out our new swimming pool" Callum calls out from somewhere. By now we're used to Callum showing off his new stuff. One thing I like about him is that even though he has all the money in the world, he never looks down on people, which is one of the things which makes him such a nice person.
We all follow him through his house to where part of his garden used to be. But now there was a pool with lights illuminating it. The lights make it look like the water is sparkling and it feels warm as I bend down and run my hand through it.
"Well come on then." Callum gestures towards the water with his hands and the rest of us just look at him questioningly.
"Jump in! Duhhh" He looks at us as if it was obvious what he wanted us to do and as soon as we all realised what he said, there was a lot of shouting.
"What?"
"No way!"
"I'll get my hair wet!"
"None of us has swimming stuff anyway!"
"Whoa! Guys calm down! Come on it'll be fun! Jess it doesn't matter if you get your hair wet and everyone just jump in with your clothes on, they will dry later! Ok?"
"Ok but I'm taking my dress off, its designer you know" Jess replies as she slips her dress off and so do most of the other girls but I just take off my jeans. The guys take of their shirts and I can't help but take a quick look at Danny. When I do, I think my heart literally skips a beat. He has lightly tanned skin and a toned chest that I just really want to go and run my hands over. But when I look back at him, Bella has wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him in for a short kiss.
"Why don't we all run and jump in together?" Ruby calls out. "Hey Bella, would you mind taking a picture on my phone?"
"Yeah sure" she walks over to the other side of the pool, after easily persuading Callum not to make her jump in, as Jamie, Lilly, Charlie, Sam, Frankie, Callum, Sasha, Me, Danny, Jazz, Matt and Jess all stand in a line and hold hands.
Danny slips his hand into mine and I blush at the contact. His hand is soft and warm in mine. He leans closer to me so no one else will hear what he says.
"You're beautiful, you know that?" Wait a minute. Did he just say I was beautiful? That did not just happen.
"I don't think you girlfriend would approve of you saying that."
"Yeah well she can't hear me and anyway, you're my best friend; I can say what I want to you."
"Well since I'm your best friend, I can say that you're least attractive and ugliest person in the world"
"Thanks El. That was soooo nice of you! Haha, not funny! You'll pay for saying that!"
"Oh yeah, what you gonna do?"
"Wait and see Ellie, wait and see" By now most of the others are looking at us and I notice Bella giving me a slightly jealous glare.
"Ok, ready? One, two, three! Jump!" we all run towards the pool and jump in. The next few minutes go by in a blur. One moment I'm floating in the water, the next someone has grabbed my ankle and pulled me under the water. I come back up to the surface coughing and spluttering. I look around to see who it was.
"Haha, the look on your face!"
"Shut up Danny!" He just continues laughing at me.
I try to think of a way to get him back and all I can come up with is to jump on his back and try to push him under. This goes on for a while with both of us practically trying to drown each other. At first I'm very aware of his touches; his hands on my bare legs as he picks me up and throws me back into the water and our body's occasionally getting pressed together. But after a while I forget about that and just have fun goofing around. In the end I give up trying to get away from him and when I do, I realise where I am. I have my legs wrapped around his waist and my arms around his neck, I look up into his beautiful blue eyes and he stares back at me. His lips are so close to mine and all I want to is close the gap between us and press my lips against his but I can feel Bella's eyes burning holes in my back and the others staring at us so I slip away from his grasp and splash him with water one more time to try and cover up the awkward moment before climbing out of the pool to go and get dry. Most of the others have had enough and follow me out as well. I put my jeans back on (which is extremely difficult) but I have to take my top of because it is soaking wet. Great, now I have to walk round in my jeans and a bra, this is going to be fun!
I get cold and start to shiver. Someone must have noticed because I feel something being draped over my shoulders. I look up and see Danny. It was his hoodie that he put around me. Its warm and it smells just like him.
"Are you sure I can wear it?"
"Why else would I give it to you?" I smile at him and he smiles back. Bella walks up and doesn't even bother to look at me, just drags Danny off somewhere. Even though he's gone, I still feel comforted by the smell of his hoodie. I slip my arms into it and zip it up. It's way too big for me but I don't care, because it reminds me of him. I head towards the kitchen and grab a beer.
Nothing really happens between us for a while. That is until Sasha drags me off to dance with her and the others. She pulls me up onto a table, despite my protesting. After a while I start to enjoy it and can't stop laughing as me and Sasha start doing a dance that we came up with to this song a while ago, which is hard to do considering we are standing on a reletivly small table. Across the room, I notice Danny laughing and shaking his head at me. I stand with my hands on my hips and give him a look that says like you could do any better! He just laughs again and turns away but I do see him watching me a few more times and as I go to get another drink, he grabs me round the waist and spins me around a few times.
"Ahhh! Danny put me down!"
"Sorry, I just had to do that!" He kisses my forehead and I wish I could just tell him but I obviously can't. "What's the matter? You look sad," If only he knew.
"It doesn't matter." I push him away, leaving him looking confused.
The next couple of hours are mainly filled with me drinking, Sasha and my other friends dragging me off to dance again and me staring longingly at Danny.
"How long?"
"What?"
"How long have you been in love with him?"
"I'm...not...well... how did you know?"
"Its sooooo obvious, everyone saw your little 'moment' before." Sasha says making quote marks with her fingers.
"What? There was no 'moment'" I say back using the same gesture.
"Oh come on! Everyone saw it and you haven't stopped staring at him for the last half hour."
"Ok fine! I do like him but it's not as if I can do anything about it."
"I suppose not, sorry babe. He does like you though, he told me ages ago."
"Well it's never going to happen now, so just forget about it," She sighs and gives me a hug.
After I've drank, well lets just say a lot more, I start to feel really sick so I go into one of Callum's many bathrooms, kneel down and throw up in the toilet. I hear the door open and someone walk across to sit down by me. I don't need to look to know it's him. Shit! I hope he didn't see my throw up. He pulls my hair out of my face and rubs comforting circles on my back.
"You ok?" He asks. I just nod in return as he helps me up off the ground and pulls me into him. I wrap my arms around him and start to cry into his chest, digging my fingers into his shirt, scared that he is going to leave me.
"Hey, everything's ok. I'm not going anywhere." He says soothingly whilst stroking my hair.
"What about Bella, won't she be looking for you?" I manage to choke out.
"She can wait, you mean more to me." I pull away, managing to control my tears for a while.
"Stop it."
"Stop what?"
"Acting like you care about me"
"What are you talking about? Of cause I care about you!"
"You just don't get it do you?" I practically scream at him.
"Don't get what? Calm down Ellie!"
"I love you!"
"And I love you! You're my best friend, so what?"
"I LOVE you!" I kiss him but only quickly. "Now do you get it?"
He just stares at me, shocked by what I just said and did. When he finally processes what this means, he glares at me and has a look of anger on his face.
"I HAVE A GIRLFRIEND! YOU CAN'T JUST KISS ME AND TELL ME THAT YOU LIKE ME!" He shouts at me. The door opens and Bella walks in. Why does she always have to interrupt everything?
"Hey, is everything ok? I heard shouting."
"Yeah, everything's fine, just go Bella, I'll be out in a minute." Danny says to her whilst giving me a death stare and never taking his eyes off me.
"Ok, don't be long," she says, in her annoying, overly happy voice as she leaves. As soon as the door closes I burst out crying. Again.
"I'm sorry Danny! But I can't help loving you" I try to shout but my throat is sore so it comes out as a strangled cry.
"Yeah, well try!"
"I'm sorry!" I try to give him another hug but he pushes me away.
"We're done here Ellie." He looks at me one last time then walks away. I slide down the wall and pull my knees up to my chest, the tears still streaming down my face. My phone beeps signalling that I have a message. I Pull my blackberry out of my pocket and open the message, wiping the screen clean of my tears.

He sent it to me this morning but I had only just received it. I smile at the use of his nickname for me; I hate it when he calls me that which is why he does it, to annoy me. My smile quickly fades though as I look at a picture of us together. It was taken a few years ago, me and Danny are lying in the grass in opposite directions but our heads are turned so our faces are only a tiny bit apart. When did things get so complicated? Why can't everything be as easy as it used to be? There's another picture of Danny and Callum with me and Sasha on their backs on a beach when we all went on holiday together, that was one of the best times of my life, I would give anything to go back there and do it all again. The next photo is of me and Sasha and then the one after is me and Danny again, he has his chin resting on my sholder and we are both just smiling. Both of us happy. Everyone tell us that we're only happy when we are together, which is true. But your not together, he hates you now! I throw my phone as hard as I can at the wall, not really caring what happens to it at the moment.
The tears slide down my face and my vision becomes blurry. I don't' know how long I sit there crying but the last thing I remember is someone picking me up and then laying me down somewhere else.
