Author's Note: This is a rewrite of my story Slaves of the Moon. Now, that does not mean that you have to read the original. Especially since, in my opinion, the original story turned out terribly . Anyway! I love the idea too much to give it up for dead and so please enjoy this rewrite instead!

"WEREWOLF, n. A wolf that was once, or is sometimes, a man. All werewolves are of evil disposition, having assumed a bestial form to gratify a beastial appetite, but some, transformed by sorcery, are as humane and is consistent with an acquired taste for human flesh. Some Bavarian peasants having caught a wolf one evening, tied it to a post by the tail and went to bed. The next morning nothing was there! Greatly perplexed, they consulted the local priest, who told them that their captive was undoubtedly a werewolf and had resumed its human for during the night. "The next time that you take a wolf," the good man said, "see that you chain it by the leg, and in the morning you will find a Lutheran.""

- Ambrose Bierce

"I would say that most werewolves are like overgrown puppies. We love to play fetch, hell we just love to play. We are fluent in every tone. We can hear and smell you better than you know yourself. Oh and we're lap dogs. Yeah, till the day we die."

- Xavier Volkov

Prologue

The three brothers stood before the other werewolves, their eyes fixed on the leader. The smallest of the three kept murmuring something over and over again. The largest of them gave him a sharp elbow to the gut which earned him a dark look. The other brother didn't even bother to pay attention to their antics. He was far too used to them by now. He was more concerned about other things like the weather, the state of the moon, and the fact that if this man didn't say something favorable very soon, they were seriously screwed.

"So...you started the fight and you still expect us to apologize for not guessing what you were during a full moonand allowing the human authorities to take you in?" the Alpha asked arching an eyebrow. When the man put it that way it was an absolutely ridiculous request. The youngest brother felt his cheeks turn a bright shade of red as he cut a hard look at his brothers who were only some minutes older than him. The eldest brother had the decency to look properly mollified and ashamed.

The middle one seemed to forget that he should.

"Actually," he objected taking a step forward and ignoring the warning growls from behind him. "We didn't start that little fight," he pointed out.

The eldest brother reached out, teeth bared only to stop as the commanding alpha raised a hand. "Let him speak. I'm curious to hear what excuse he's going to give us this time." Derisive laughter made its way around the circle as a pout formed on the middle brother's face.

A slap to the back of his head was delivered in answer to his facial expression and he threw a sharp glare at the giver, his younger brother. "Alright, alright," he said stepping back to avoid another smack. "We threw the first punch, but only in necessary retaliation," he explained. "We're wolves as much as anyone else here. Just because we don't have a pack doesn't mean we don't have honor," he pointed out tilting his chin in the air.

Laughter was replaced by whispers that were cut off as the Alpha stepped forward to examine the three boys. "You're right," he agreed."You have no pack and no respect. That makes you dangerous to us and to yourselves." The youngest felt his stomach plummet like a rock. No, this couldn't be happening could it? Being out on their own could well be a death sentence. "But you're also pups." The middle received an elbow to the stomach from both sides to keep him silent this time. The aggrieved look he gave his brothers said that he hadn't meant to say anything.

Neither believed it.

"And because of that fact, you're going to be given one more chance. You screw up one more time and we'll deal with you as we should now." A shiver ran down their spines. They knew exactly what he meant and none of them doubted that this Alpha would do it. They were safe, but they were walking on thin ice. That was for sure. The three brothers exchanged a look. If their luck held in typical fashion it meant that they likely only had a little while left before they were totally screwed.
