Eliseo didn't like the smarter girls eventhough he was pretty smart himself.
He had almost a 4.0 and no one else on the football team knew or even had a grade point average anywhere close to his.
After football practice, he took his usual shower, opened up his locker, put on his clothes and grabbed his bag and keys.
When he got out the gym doors he bumped into a girl; he recognized her from one of his classes, but didn't remember her name.
"Hey!" she shouted and grabbed her arm where he'd accidentally bumped into her.
He dropped his keys and went to them up.
"Sorry..." he said still trying to remember her name.
He knew he knew her, but he didn't remember her name.
"Tyra?" she asked.
He nodded and spun his keys around in his hand nervously.
"Sorry, Tyra." he smiled.
"Wow," she said and got up smoothing out her skirt.
"What?" he asked confused.
She sighed. "I- I just never thought you'd apologize," she said and tucked a few strands of hair that fell in her face behind her ear. "...or even talk to me." she smiled.
"Well Tyra," he smiled and dangled his keys some more. "Do you need a ride?"
Tyra looked at Eliseo surprised. "Wow, uh sure, Eliseo!" she beemed.
"Woah, you know my name?" he smiled.
She nodded. "I've been going to school with you since kindergarden."
He felt bad now. "Oh..."
She nodded again and followed him into the school parking lot to his car.
Surprisingly he found himself opening her door for her before opening his own.
Do I like this girl? he asked himself as he closed the car door and walked around to open his own.
He found himself driving home and then looking over at her and cursing.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry," he parked the car in his driveway and looked at her. "Where's you house?"
Tyra looked at him and laughed a little.
"What?" he asked.
She shook her head and wiped her eyes from laughing too much. "Umm right up the street, but do you mind going out for some ice cream with me?"
He looked at her and actually smiled thinking about it. "Uh-"
"I'll pay of course because you drove me and everything," she told him before he could answer.
He nodded and drove to Dairy Queen, got into the drive thru line and looked over at her.
"What would you like?" he smiled.
She sighed and looked at the menu, picked out what she wanted mentally saying it once before she told him aloud.
"Ah," he smiled and ordered.
The lady told them the total of the order and "please pull up."
When they got to the window Tyra handed Eliseo the money, but he gave it back and pulled out his wallet and payed for it himself.
"Seriously?" she asked him when he pulled up to the next window for their ice cream.
He nodded and thanked the lady at the next window who handed him their ice cream and then he pulled around and parked in the parking lot.
He smiled and handed Tyra her ice cream.
"Thanks," she smiled.
He pulled out a spoon and handed it to her and then pulled out another and dug at her ice cream with it.
"Hey!" she giggled and pulled her ice cream away.
"Mine!" he found himself yelling at her and getting closer.
They looked at each other now, forgetting about the ice cream, and stared into each other's eyes for a while.
"Eliseo," she smiled.
He loved the sound of his name coming from her lips and found himself looking at them.
He smiled back and before he knew it he was kissing her and she was kissing him too.
"Tyra," he smiled when they finished and took her ice cream when she was least expecting.
"Hey!" she giggled again and reached out for her ice cream. "Give it back..."
He shrugged. "Fine..." he smiled and shoved the ice cream in her face gently.
He pulled it back and looked at her expression, just smiling and giggling at him.
If it were his last girlfriend, the head cheerleader Nicholee, she'd be yelling at him about her clothes or her makeup being ruined and telling him that he had to pay for it all.
He sighed at this thought and gently handed her the ice cream.
She saw the change in his face and looked at him worried. "What's wrong?"
He shook his head. "It's... nothing."
She looked at him dead in the eyes. "It's alright, you can tell me... or if you don't want to talk about it, that's okay too..."
He looked at her and just shook his head. "I was... just thinking about someone."
"The cheerleader?" Tyra asked frowning.
He looked at her suprised that she got it right on the first guess and nodded. "Yea, how did you know?"
"I've known you since kindergarden and we go to the same the same school," she looked at his face. "Rumors go around and spread fast..."
He looked at her, she had the sadest look on her face. "What?"
"There were a few rumors that were made up about me," she started crying. "They suck." she wiped the tears away. "Ugh, and now I'm crying in front of you... I'm sorry."
He shook his head. "No, it's fine."
"But- ...I don't want you to see me like this." she looked away.
He reached out for her face and pulled it back so that she was looking at him again.
"Well- " he looked at her. "You're beautiful. Has anyone ever told you that?"
She looked down and blinked.
"Nope. No one," she whispered shaking her head.
"Well you are... and you still look that way even when you cry." he smiled.
He felt so sorry for her.
She really was very beautiful and he was happy he met her.
He wish he met her before though, maybe then he wouldn't have had to sleep with his old girlfriend.
She forced everything and he didn't know why he went through with any of it.
He still didn't know why he dated her in the first place...
She was really mean and a total bitch.
Maybe it was because he was on the football team and she was the head cheerleader, but that didn't mean they had to be together.
He realized he liked smart and down-to-earth girls like this one in his car right now.
She wiped the rest of her tears away and excused herself while she took a napkin and blew her nose, away from him, and gently reached for another napkin and rolled the used one into the one she just got and put it in the ice cream bag.
He looked at her and she looked up at him, catching that he was staring.
"Sorry," she sighed thinking she discusted him.
He smiled and shook his head. "Don't apologise, I do that too..."
She laughed and smiled at him.
They had their moment that they both were just waiting and dying for and-
