EXTRA: Gothic

The Gothic style of writing is new to me but it totally rocks! It has short, mysterious sentences that give you the creeps, and a lot of purple writing. Purple writing is writing with a lot of description and complete engulfment in the moment. Gothic has a lot of the supernatural in it and this inspires the style of writing to make a parody of itself within the story. All along the storyline it is making fun of how over the top the supernatural events are. Good settings are foreign countries, especially Italy, forests, castles, run-downs, and dark places. The main character is usually unidentified in purpose, brooding, and dangerous. Damsels in distress are wonderful add-ons to the villains, who may or may not be of the supernatural category but always trigger an unreliable and distressing event. If you want to write Gothic, I suggest it strongly. It's a new and exciting way to write!
