The princess' marriage had been consummated. My sweet little fireflies flittered excitedly in all directions, off to spread the happy news; the princess' marriage had been consummated. Legally and forever sweet Jonathon would finally be the beloved ruler of the nation as far as the elders were concerned, and in reality I would have the power I was born to have.
I was glad to have my fireflies witness our consummation. They had loved me, honestly and truly. My followers wanted a ruler who was witty and daring. My elders wanted a ruler who was a man, and a princess who was a lady. My fireflies wanted me, exactly as I was. Concerned not with propriety, but only my comfort, they had lain out a tray of chocolates and cannabis, indulgences forbidden to a lady. They kept it a secret for me that my maiden's womb had been tainted before tonight, and had made my marriage bed in the woods as extravagantly as if I were the first woman to bare her breasts to the moon and surrender myself to a prince.
A prince because I made him so. My sweet Jonathon was letting his head fall to the pillow as I reached for a porcelain pipe and beckoned one of the remaining fireflies to light it or me. I let the smoke fill me up and released it before turning back to see the remaining embers of the flame in his eyes that had been our climax. His mostly, but he would finish me off later. His eyes caught mine and he smiled. I smiled back which turned into an inadvertent girlish giggle. After another breath of smoke and the buzz of my new marriage filled me up, I whispered aloud to myself.
"Wife." A word never sounded so strange.
"Queen." My new husband added. He shut his eyes and rolled to his back after reaching over me for the chocolate. I set aside my pipe.
"King." I whispered, smiling. I rolled my bare self back onto his chest and felt my breasts press flat against my husband. I wondered for a moment whether I ought to take him again while the scene is so lovely. "Are you prepared to be my king, King Jon?"
"I am prepared to accept you as my queen," he replied, "the queen I know you are prepared to be."
